The Antichrist King - Juan Carlos
Published in Paperback by Today in Bible Prophecy, Incorporated (1993)

Dr. Taylor hits the nail on the head
Provides a lot of background information on the antichrist King Juan Carlos. Though this book does not have any "satanic pictures" of Juan Carlos you can get that in the Nov.97 issue of Vanity Fair where Carlos is dressed in a black Prince of Darkness robe and red cape with a german sheppard. Look out! King Juan Carlos' day of revealing draws nearer, only now will he continue to work from behind the scenes until that day of infamy arrives. Repent now or face the Great Tribulation under the "iron fist" of King Juan Carlos as his song of the day will be "No More Mr. Nice Guy" as the price for food and to stay alive will be your soul.

One of the best poetry cd's
I think this is a perfect companion to the millions of Buk fans. He read his poetry in a clear way, a lot better than Hostage. He has a unique voice. Some claim he is one of the most influential and imitated poet, i'm for this.

Alright now, you must have this compilation... a must have to any true Bukowski fan.

This book is wonderful, full of common sense & warmth.
This is THE book to read if you own a Cav. or are thinking of buying one. The author writes with warmth and a sound knowledge of the breed, gained through years of successful showing and breeding of these lovely dogs. The chapters on breeding and puppy raising are a must for anyone contemplating this avenue. Of particular appeal is the chapter on natural remedies for just about any ailment your dog may suffer from. Whether your Cav. is a pet or a show dog, I cannot recommend this book highly enough, it's wonderful.

How to read a painting done by the founder of the Royal Academy of Painting. It is impressive I have never seen anything like that in any book.

Fantastic Work available again at last! My fav in the series
Vaughan's series of books on Valois Burgundy have long been a staple for anyone interested Burgundian history and culture. After a long stretch of being out of print, and very difficult to find, these new editions are sure to be welcomed by many historians. Added to Vaughan's work is a fantastic new introduction written for the 2002 edition by Malcolm Vale (another historian I would readily recommend).
While these works may be older, and more recent work has been done on Burgundy, Vaughan's scholarship is still first-rate. A must for the bookshelf of anyone interested in Valois Burgundy, or Northern Europe in the late 14th and 15th centuries.

Charles Williams (Arthurian Poets)

A Worthy Collection
This is an excellent collection of poems by one of the often overlooked members of the the Inklings. Mr. Dodds' useful introduction and organization of these vibrant poems is very helpful, and it's too bad that this book will be read primarily by academics.

A coffin for King Charles : the trial and execution of Charles I

A Classic
This is classic history--Wedgwood's erudition is obvious, but this very readable narrative is enlivened with vivid details of characters, events, and physical settings. Her assessments of the duplicitous and vacillating Charles and the narrow but undeniably brilliant soldier Cromwell are both shrewd and sympathetic. The book, her third on the life of Charles I of England, deals with the ten weeks which comprise the trial and execution of the first European reigning monarch to be publicly tried for treason and put to death by his subjects. The story opens in November 1648, with Charles a prisoner, separated from his wife and children. The English Civil War, begun in 1642, has brought the deaths of thousands of his subjects, political anarchy, widespread destruction, catastrophic harvests, and economic depression. Charles has failed to reach agreement with Parliament on its demands for reform, knowing that when Cromwell returns from campaigning, he and the Army will take the law into their own hands. Cromwell and the Army duly return, take Charles prisoner, exclude the Presbyterian opposition from Parliament, and vote to bring the King to justice for plotting to enslave the English nation and commit treason by levying war on his subjects. A somewhat undistinguished group of men is chosen to prosecute and try the King, the country's experienced and influential judges and lawyers having refused to participate. The King, never a good speaker, rises to the occasion with a forceful defense denying the legal authority of the court and arguing, cleverly, that he is protecting not himself but the freedom and liberty of the English people by resisting the court's violation of centuries of English common law. The inevitable death sentence is pronounced and the death warrant is signed. Weirdly enough, Charles and Cromwell never confronted each other during the trial, and Charles was unacquainted with the men who prosecuted him and signed his death warrant. Wedgwood describes the startling denunciation of the court by a masked Lady Fairfax, wife of the commander of Cromwell's army, the King's poignant farewell to the only two of his children in England--a 13 year old daughter and an 8 year old son-- and his calm acceptance of a death which he considered martyrdom. The execution was delayed for several hours while the Commons rushed through an act making it illegal for anyone to proclaim a new king, and the headsman wore a mask and false hair and beard. Eleven years later, Charles' 30-year old son was restored to the throne as Charles II. Cromwell was dead, but 41 of the 59 signers of the death warrant were still alive; ultimately, only nine of them were executed for treason by Charles II. The regicides died believing that theirs had been an act of conscience.

A New Mexico Classic
This book is a wonderful historical record of New Mexico politics in the 20th Century. Filled with insightful anecdotes and provoking commentary. Bruce King is a very important figure in N.M. It's scary to think that he almost didn't write this book. I highly recommend.

Indispensible Resource Book on a Great 20th Century Composer
The great Swiss composer Frank Martin (1890-1974) left a durable legacy of fine compositions, among which the best known include orchestral works like the "Petite Symphonie Concertante" and the "Concerto for 7 Wind Instruments," chamber works like the "Trio on Irish Folk Tunes," the "4 Short Pieces for Guitar" and the "Ballade for Flute," the song-cycle "6 Monologe aus Jedermann" and above all his religious works, including the oratorios "In Terra Pax" and "Golgotha" and the frequently recorded early "Mass for Double Choir." He also wrote with great insight and clarity about music and composing, although unfortunately much of this legacy remains untranslated into English.
This Bio-Bibliography, compiled by Charles W. King, is an indispensible resource for information on Martin's music. It begins with a brief (4 1/2 page) biography, which manages to synthesize an impressive amount of information, and contains both a chronological list of compositions and a work-by-work discography, up to 1990 (the latter now happily outdated, as many new recordings, including ones of previously unavailable works, continue to appear). Most valuable of all are the list of writings by Martin and the bibliography, which between them provide summaries of over 400 texts in various languages. Even if you're not planning to use this book as a springboard for further research, you'll find plenty to stimulate you here - who know (for instance) that 2 American composers, Henry Cowell and Virgil Thomson, both wrote enthusiastic reviews of "Golgotha"?
There are inevitably a few errors and mis-translations here and there, but these are insignificant in the light of this volume's immense value. For those who already love and admire Martin's music, a must.

Long, entertaining Dickens story for the car.
I listened to the unabridged audio tape version of this book narrated by Michael Page. It's one of those deals where you listen to each tape entirely on the left channel, then play the whole tape again on the right channel to get the next part of the story. Which is kind of awkward, since you forget which channel you were on if you also use your stereo for music; but these editions are probably the least expensive (by the hour) audio tapes you can buy.

I think Dickens' tendency toward exhaustive descriptions works a lot better when you're listening to it in the car than when you're reading it in print. I might never have had the patience to read the actual book while sitting in a chair, but listening to it in the car was pretty entertaining. Colorful characters, humor, suspense, unexpected plot twists; I can picture a lot of it in my mind even now. A recommended story.
