A polemical book now a little dated
John Grey Gorton was an Australian Prime Minister from 1967 to 1971. He became Prime Minister by a fluke. Harold Holt the then Prime Minister drowned in a swimming mishap. The most senior and respectable liberal Billy McMahon got himself into a fight with Black Jack Mckewen the leader of the Country Party the liberals coalition partner. As a result Mckewen refused to servce under McMahon.

This caused a crisis and the liberals had to find a leader. Gorton was the liberals leader in the Senate. He had recently handled a potential scanal about VIP aircraft with aplomb and suddenly it seemed he should be the man to lead the liberals.

In Australia it should be noted that the liberals are the conservative party. Within a short time Gorton began to exhibit eccentric behavour. He liked to get drunk and when drunk he liked attractive women. Within a short time he was doing things like scaling the fence of the American Embassy whisky bottle in hand with a young woman in tow to have a chat with the American Ambassador in the middle of the night. Apart from his personal eccentricities he also turned out to be a person who against the normal run of conservative policy wanted to increase the power of the commonwealth over the states.

His larrakin behavour meant that he soon became an easy victim for the press and despite winning an election in 1969 he voted himself out of office when a leadership ballot was tied in 1971.

This book is by an infuential journalist and basically it sets out to bag Gorton and to suggest that he was not up to the job. With the passing of time people feel a bit more affection for a figure who was one of Australia's great characters and more recent biographies have been kinder.

Haynes Seca 2 Manual
There are two major publishers in the motorcycle maintenance handbook market, Haynes and Clymer. After doing some research on the net, I opted for the Haynes. I have since returned it and have ordered the Clymer. The basic problem that I had with the Haynes was that the print was very small. If I'm working on my bike, I want to be able to quickly glance at the manual for information as I'm working on the bike. I didn't think that this would be possible with the small print of the Haynes manual.

Detrimental to those in need of treatment! Take caution.
I contracted chronic Lyme disease a year ago and was not diagnosed for ten months. During that time I got worse and worse and not one doctor helped me. In fact they were rude and didn't listen. The over all feeling in the medical community is one of disbelief and hostility. This book is the epitome of those feelings. Reading this book made me feel the same way I did listening to a doctor tell me that the positive test was not significant. This book does nothing more than berate those that are already sick and frightened. It makes you feel as though you are the one with the problem. The disease is all in your head. Also I think I should add that the author of this book was appointed to the Lyme Advisory community for California and then was promptly removed because the people that had Lyme Disease were so angry with his attitude towards them. Beware of this book. It will do nothing other than make you feel bad about a disease that is not your fault. Which leads me to the age old question, Which is worse the cure or the disease? When there are books like this on the market perpetuating the horrible attitude towards truly sick people it is neither. Until this opinion is dispelled, there is no disease and there will be no cure despite how sick you really are.

Information is not helpful; controversy is not explained
This book will only confuse you if you are looking for real answers to the Lyme disease controversy or help for an undiagnosed illness. Barbour does not give you enough information to make informed decisions regarding treatment or diagnosis of an actual entrenched and untreated case of Lyme disease. Your money will be better spent buying books by Denise Lang, Karen Forschner, or Polly Murray.

Alan G. Barbour's book not worth reading
Alan G. Barbour's book not worth reading
Alan G. Barbour is no friend to the Lyme patient. I suffer from chronic Lyme disease and was terribly disappointed and angered by this book. There was a pervasive, underlying thread which downplayed the number of Lyme cases, the severity of the disease, and the complexity of the disease. Barbour's disregard for the plight of Lyme patients is demonstrated in his inexcusable lack of treatment guidelines besides a cookbook reliance on a short term antibiotic therapy which has been clinically proven wrong for many patients. Many, many people are suffering with Lyme disease and cannot get proper treatment. If you buy this book, you will be, in my opinion, adding to this suffering. You will also be less informed when you have finished this book than before you began. Please don't add credibility to Barbour as a Lyme disease expert by buying this book.

Tell a lie often enough..........
It amazes me that after 90 years there are people still trying to revive old anti-German propaganda myths from WWI. All these supposed attrocities were investigated after the war and found to be totaly false.Even the Belgian government, when it investigated the allegations made in the infamous Bryce Report, couldn't find any evidence to support the stories. And I think you will have a pretty tough time trying to convince people that the Belgians were covering up for the Germans!

Ironically, this books needs some ORGANIZATION
Maybe, it is just me but I personally think that the book is poorly written and structured. I dislike the style that the author uses writing this book by constantly mentioning the names of scientists who developed some of the theories. This made it extremely difficult to follow due to the overflow of people's names. An example of my own "I wrote this review because John made an experient with Dave Smith that shows Amazon.com Customers will read it and not purchase the book. Dave Smith with Mark Davidson and Howard James conclude that reviews are good and reviews have become a part of good books". This sentence clearly did not have any great purpose, all it did was take up 'word counts'.

Other bad layouts include: Bad paragraph strucuturing (some paragraphs are so badly strucutured that it takes up the entire page), lack of highlights, bad definitions meant that you would actually have to look in the dictionary to get a better explaination. Another example of mine BAD: "Java is comprised of Legend 1422 and Cobra122, using H111 as a base running-engine symmetric to C1223". ALOT of useless nonsense, instead of simple saying "Java is a computer-friendly high level programming language....."

Maybe, I'm wrong or biased but I have definitely seen and used better books. Please write a review on what you think and maybe correct me on some areas if i'm wrong

interesting subject, sloppy research, tragic results
A British-born Australian immigrant publishes his results about gay immigration to Australia. Gay immigration is a very urgent issue and I'm glad the matter is being documented. But this book left me so sad and dissatisfied. On the one hand, activists globally can learn from Austalia's example. This book starts with a decent chapter on the history of gay Australian immigration. This was also a longitudinal study: something you rarely find in sexual orientation-related research. However, the book is very sloppily-written. It reads like a scrapbook or diary. So many of his discussions are internal and unimportant. There's no way an American scholar could get tenure with a book like this. Usually, I praise gay male authors that remember to include lesbians in their research. But the lesbians involved in the study get scant mention and thus become negligible. Like studies of gay Asians in white-dominated countries throughout the world, this text is filled with cute, young Asian guys having no choice but to partner with size-, age-, and looks-challenged white mates. This book will kinda rub the younger non-Eurocentric gay men of color the wrong way. You would think that binational gay couples have risked thick and thin to be together. In this book, the Australian officials encourage gay couples to cheat on their applications and all kinds of pairs that have no intention of staying together apply for couple status. Most every respondent said the immigration controversy is affecting their health negatively. Further, the author says things about his long-term partner that no spouse should say about another in print. There's no bigamy allowed in Australia for straight citizens, yet the author is not fazed in the least to apply for immigration status for his Thai extra lover. Worse, he gets mad when he finds that his Thai lover is cheating but never criticizes himself for cheating on his first lover with the Thai national. Bottom line: America is so far away from enacting gay immigration (which is a shame) and this book will do NOTHING to help that goal happen, as poor and tragic as this work is.
