EXCELLENT BOOK
This book shows that our country's enemies are not the only people killing our sons and daughters. Dr. Diehl has done an excellent job of stating the facts in a way that is easy to read and understand. His extensive knowledge and political insight opens the reader's awareness that problems with safety, accident investigations, coverups and scapegoating that permeate in the military is a cancer which every citizen should be outraged about. Readers of this book will easily understand that our military leaders are not only wasting billions of dollars of tax payers money but also that more military men and women are being killed in peacetime accidents than in war. All Americans should read this book.

A DEFINITE EYE-OPENER !
SILENT KNIGHTS is a real eye-opener and should be read by every righteous citizen of this nation. I now realize why there are risks taken by our military everytime they step into an airplane to protect the United States=they are unaware pawns.
We call ourselves a united states but we are NOT united because we are having the "wool thrown over our eyes" by unscrupulous members of our military and by some in the Congress who are more afraid of the dollars spent than by providing safety and reliable on-the-job training for the military men and women who defend us daily.

Cover-ups in the Military happen far to often!!
I am far to familiar with the stories told in this book regarding military accidents and their cover-ups. I found myself right in the middle of one of the largest cover-ups in Naval history. These events happen more often than the American public could possibly ever imagine. I personally have been contacted by hundreds of individuals whose stories could have been added to this long awaited book. Silent Knights is an excellant expose, as well as a legacy told for many heros who can longer speak for themselves. Those of you who read the stories in this book should be outraged! After reading Silent Knights, my sincere hope is that in some way Dr. Diehl's book will initiate the change that all American's, especially we who have lost loved ones in the military so desperately seek! My sincere thanks and appreciation for what you have tried to do.

Pole Shift
Read this book only on long winter nights when your television doesn't work and you have two broken legs. Actually, all possible theories, from the unlikely to possible are presented. The first two chapters are compelling, the remainder tedious. Also, if you purchase the paperback addition, buy a magnifying glass too.

Interesting item and large summary of disciplines
The author has a very good experience with several disciplines of science and research. The book reads well and sounds impressive and professional, even in matters as Psychic Foresight etc... However, in the epilogue (page 391-408) he takes almost everything back and left me with a rather frustrated feeling of "what is it know ?. Is it so or is it not ?"

My conviction is that he backs away from his own work. This does not mean that I am looking forward for a nice pole shift soon to happen. However, I expected in the epilogue the same professionalism to give a modern, more holistic answer to the questions that surfaced during the years, instead of simply stating in only 17 pages that it will not be as it was seen by him.

After reading White (and Velikovsky), I am truly convinced that more than one pole shift has taken place in the last million years. Maybe not exactly as written by the above mentioned authors but nevertheless highly interesting and demanding for further research. And to be taken very seriously

Brilliant, intelligent, logical, fascinating,a must read
This is a book that all thinking people should read

Armed Robbery Training Manual (Printable CD-ROM Series Volume #1)

ARMED ROBBERY TRAINING MANAUL
I FOUND THE BOOK VERY SPECIFIC ON WHAT AND WHAT NOT TO DO IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS.THE INFORMATION PROVIDED WILL BE VERY HELPFUL TO ME, AS I AM A BANK TELLER MYSELF.

The Armed Robbery Training Manual CD-ROM Is For You!
I fully recommend The Armed Robbery Training manual on CD-ROM to anyone and any location which could be randomly selected for the crime of Armed Robbery.

Now that we have entered the Year 2000, and the world did not come to an end, the criminal element has once again set to work to wreak havoc upon Mom and Pop stores, retail convenience stores, fast food restaurants, retail chain stores, armored couries and even postal carriers. All of these occupations can be categorized as High-Risk occupations and High-Risk workplaces. It goes without saying that Banks and other financial institutions are certainly high risk workplaces, but with the newest coined phrase, "Going Postal" and the fatal and life-threatening incidents which have taken place in our nation's postal facilities, the playing field has greatly expanded to each and every postal location becoming a hazardous, high-risk workplace. Armed Robbers, throughout the nation, have taken "Going Postal" still another step by boldly committing armed robberies against carriers in "your" neighborhood and community. The time for honing awareness, training, Intervention and prevention skills and tactics is now! The Armed Robbery Training Manual on CD-ROM is that answer. I have used both the diskette version and the CD-ROM version and I can attest that the CD-ROM is one of the best anti-Armed Robbery I have seen in many, many years. I can see that someone, probably the publisher has come before me and has listed the contents, but the latest CD-ROMs have been continuously enhanced with more and more information, which will continue to help both employers and employees in any at-risk or high-risk workplace.

The local food store you shop at now may not be the safest place to buy your food if their employees and security staff have not been properly trained in what to do and what not to do before, during and after an Armed Robbery, which includes how to safeguard customers and innocent citizens. This goes for your Bank, Convenience Store, Retail Clothing Store, Your favorite Sit-Down Restaurant, Fast Food Restaurant (Remember Wendy's in New York and Luby's in Killeen, Texas and McDonalds on California), your favorite Dance Club and more. If they are not properly trained if it occurs while you are there, then your life and safety are also at-risk and in jeopardy. While it may not have happened to you yet, it's something to think about. We all know how to keep ourselves reasonably safe, but what happens when that safety is threatened and we are unable to trust those who wield the responsibility to protect us.

The next time you go to any of the locations listed above, ask the Store Manager or Proprietor or the uniformed or plainclothes security officer if he or she has been properly trained on What To Do and What Not To Do in the event of an Armed Robbery, especially if it occurs while you and your children are patronizing the store or facility.

If they can't reasonably answer you to your complete personal satisfaction, they may not have because of the overwhelming belief that "It Can't (or Won't) Happen Here!" ... please feel free to refer them to the Armed Robbery Training Manual on CD-ROM, readily available for acquisition from Amazon.Com.

Armed Robbery is a grim reality and an important concern in our seemingly modern society. It's better to prepare and not have to use the training and tactics, than not to prepare and experience victimization on a grand scale.

Five stars is not nearly enough of a rating for The Armed Robbery Training Manual on CD-ROM, because the training it offers to properly prepare the at-risk workplace, the high-risk workplace, the school, the retail faclity, the library or any target which may be randomly selected by Armed Criminals has the unique capability of saving innocent lives, and because it's just that important!

If you want to see Batman fight Judge Dredd, you'll find this book disappointing (unless you think a three- or four-panel scuffle constitutes as "fight"). You'll also find this book disappointing if you're hoping to see Batman and Judge Dredd team up, because they don't. Instead, Batman teams up with Anderson to go after Judge Death, who has teamed up, rather randomly I think, with the Scarecrow (surely the Scarecrow and Judge Fear would have been a more logical combination?) It's not an activally bad comic, but it's certainly not a great one.

Judge Dredd & Batman
It's crime fighting time when Judge Dredd and Batman take on each other! It's even better than Batman Forever!Highly recommended!

Worth it for "Blades" alone, an example of how to do Batman
I've read all of the stories in this Batman TPB, and while the Bat-Mite and Poison Ivy tales are OK, the first tale, "Blades" by Robinson and Sale, is spectacular. If you're a fan of "Starman" or anything else by Robinson, buy this quick. If you like great storytelling and great art by Sale, buy this quick!

Kick Butt!
I especially liked the story with Bat-Mite! HE is so cute and funny. "Hothouse" is a little confusing though, but I think I pretty mush got it down.

Beat the Heat a Radical Survival Handbook
Beat the Heat, a Radical Survival Handbook is a relic from days gone by. The book is intended as a guide to those involved in the revolutionary struggle against repression that was said to have begun in the late sixties. Content in the four standard sections of any revolutionary guide book, People's Law, Community Organization Guide, First Aid for Activists and Firearms and Self-Defense is detailed and full of common sense.
Beat the Heat will guide you step by step through such experiences as being busted by the pigs for drugs, how to print your own demonstration leaflets, how to avoid the diseases of communal living, first aid for confrontation situations, firearm selection and tactical defensive firearm use. Overall, the book is detailed, and is a basic common sense approach to avoiding trouble while doing illegal things. What it lacks in originality, it certainly compensates for in volume.

The DEFINITIVE Alan Freed bio
Legends take on a life on their own, and that is as true with Alan Freed as with anyone in the early rock years. Much of the mis-information, hype, lies and distortions have surfaced from his ardent fans and his vitriolic enemies, and some of the mis-information (i.e. hype) came from Freed himself.
But, then, he WAS a showman, after all. This book cuts through much of the haze, hype and harangues and gets to the real Freed. Interviewing many family members and close friends, this is a thoroughly interesting and readable story, even for those who THINK they know what the story is.
From the early days in Ohio on to the "heyday" at WINS and then, all too quickly to the debacle in Boston, which caused all the "rats" within the industry to bail out on Freed, this is a story all true music fans should read.

But, regardless of the money and favors that changed hands during the birth of rock and roll, it seems likely that Freed never played anything that he didn't have faith in musically. Much as Lenny Bruce became the "fall guy" for un-censored social commentary, Freed paid the price for a new kind of music, and also paid the price because that music was a key factor in bring ing the races together.
When Alan's death came just a few scant years after his fame was ripped from him by the rock-n-roll foes, it was undoubtedly his heavy drinking and a weakened liver that was the actual cause of death. Emotionally, a broken man at the young age of 43, Alan Freed was actually far more influential than he could have ever imagined himself. In those incendiary moments at the live shows that he so artfully orchestrated, and in the telephone book-pounding and sing-along fervor of his radio shows,it is doubtful that even he could have known how far his ground-breaking work would influence and change the world of music in the ensuing decades.

Earth to earth : a true story of the lives and violent deaths of a Devon farming family

Oops! A Correction to my review
Re: my review, I should have said that the Luxtons died in the mid-1970's, not the mid-1980's. My apologies!

A haunting portrait of a family & a forgotten way of life
What could have been a lurid tale of murder and madness becomes in Cornwell's hands a elegant elegy for an eccentric family and a lost way of life. Robert, Alan and Frances Luxton, 2 brothers and a sister from an ancient farming family in Devon, England, died violently in the mid-1970's. Though this true tale was well (and sensationally) documented by the British press at the time, the story is probably unknown to most American readers. Cornwell journeyed to Devon to ostensibly uncover the mystery of their deaths. Instead, as he interviews neighbors and friends in the isolated community, he assembles a portrait of not only Robert, Alan and Frances, but of their once wealthy family, its tragedies and eccentricities. The Luxton family becomes a detail in the landscape of an almost vanished way of life in one of the most mysterious corners of England.

" Here's the second book in a planned series of ten adventurous historical fiction titles from social studies teacher Alan Kay. Cousins David and George Adams find themselves "caught between two worlds," and the only way of escape is to find David's father, John, who lives in a wild territory known as "Bleeding Kansas.

Kay treats readers to a rich description of the countryside during the boys' journey. They experience the "sweet, refreshing scent" of a wide, wildflower-strewn prairie, where "green grasses waved in the wind like waves approaching a shore." The boys meet animals unheard of back in Boston, and insects like fireflies, which George compares to "millions of tiny lanterns.

Their appreciation of new sights and sounds are short-lived, though. Upon reaching David's family and realize that David's parents are heavily involved in a dangerous plot with John Brown, whose secret plan to overthrow the Federal government involves starting a violent slave uprising across the South. Feel the tension of a family divided, as members realize the risks of taking such a stand. Will they help John Brown in his dangerous plan, or make it to Harpers Ferry in time to warn the townsfolk and stop him in his tracks?" -- Bonnie Bruno...

Reprinted from Social Studies for Kids
-- "The second in Alan N. Kay's Young Heroes of History series, On the Trail of John Brown's Body, is every bit as good as the first.
Whereas that book juxtaposed the plight of a slave family and a northern family filled with abolitionists and sympathetics, this book follows the adventures of two boys and their fathers as they journey to the Kansas Territory in the days when John Brown cast the longest shadow in the land.

David and George, two of the young heroes from the first book, are the main characters here as well, along with their fathers. They have typical frontier adventures, but always in the background (and often in the foreground) is the specter of war, brought on by the increasingly violent actions of abolitionists like David's father.

The arrival of the boys in "Bleeding Kansas" brings that state's bloody conflict into sharp focus. And by having David's father, John, be a part of John Brown's brigade, the author gives us an up-close glimpse of the passion (and, some will say, madness) of Brown himself.

This book succeeds the most by having the reader follow the typical adventures of young boys (playing baseball, getting into fights, doing odd jobs for spending money) while at the same reminding that reader that the setting for these typical adventures is Civil War-era America. To his credit, Alan Kay succeeds at both.

As with the first book in this series, I highly recommend this book. It is an excellent portrayal of young people in the 19th Century. David White, editor, Social Studies For Kids, ...

This book covers only up to model year 1997
I purchased this book in August or September of 1999. InNovember when I obtained my copy, I discovered that it only coversmodel years up to 1997. Since my machine is a 1998 model this book was of little use to me.

Be forewarned, just because this book was last printed in November 1999, it DOES NOT cover the model years of 1998, 1999, or 2000.

Polaris Atv Owners Workshop Manual
A great read. This book showed me how to easily repair my ATV. The book had much information on the utility line up, but lacked in the sport/performane sections. Although I own both sport and a utility atv. The utility section gave me great steps and easy to read procedures in mantaining my quad.

The World on a String: How to Become a Freelance Foreign Correspondent
Published in Paperback by Henry Holt (Paper) (1997)
Authors: Alan Goodman, John Pollack, and Wolf Blitzer
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $7.49
Average review score:

Very practical, good information
As a journalism myself when I first buy this book I didnt expect the things I got at the end of it. Even that the book concentrates more in the cases of war correspondants, in the way the book is written we can use those examples in our careers even do that we're not working in the war zone by the time. The authors give the readers all the information he or she might need when they decide to break into freelancing. The book is very easy to read and when you finish with it you realize you do it rapidly and you dont get bored or even tired.

Practical and informative
Goodman tackles a broad subject with a concise eye for the practical approach to becoming a freelance foreign correpondent. He also might make it sound a little too easy, but I think his heart is in the right place and most of the book is realistic about what steps you should take before making the leap into the correspondent ring. Though still a college student, I have used much of Goodman's advice toward my goal of becoming a foreign correspondent by preparing here on the home front before embarking after graduation. Goodman focus on this side of the issue, preparing relentlessly before you go, is probably the biggest factor in sucess or failure in making the freelance leap work. Easy to read, full of helpful info -- though I wish it could be longer, it goes a long way in what it has.
