I have been a fan of Mr Howard for nearly 12 years now, which in my opinion, makes me a bit of a connoisseur, and frankly this book was a bit of a disappointment. Undoubtedly the contributing writers are well-respected and immensely able but their writing lacked the Howardian flavour I have come to love. Ghor's sudden personality shifts are hard to follow and the various ideas in the story lack sufficient depth. This book is not the way Mr Howard would have written it. Nevertheless, this should be read because the original idea belonged to the great REH.

Ghor is a nice blend of Conan and the Cthulhu Mythos together. Abandoned as a child because of a deformity, Ghor is adopted by a pack of wolves. Raised by them, he adopts the ways of the wolf, yet when he meets up with humanity joins them. Constantly struggling with his wolf upbringing and his human surroundings, Ghor becomes a mighty war hero wherever he goes.

This is an excellent adventure book that takes a Conan like hero and plots him against all sorts of evil (and good), including some Cthulhu creations as well.

Originally Ghor was an unfinished story by Conan creator Robert Howard. Upon finding this unfinished story, a magazine decided to finish it. What they did was have a different chapter every month written by a different top fantasy writer. It made the reading interesting.

While most of the chapters were great. Some were excellent. Unfortunately there were a couple chapters that I just wanted to get through to reach the next writers' chapter. Overall a really good read.

I WAS VERY SUPRISED ABOUT HOW WELL THIS STORY CAME OFF. THE VARIUOS WRITERS DID AN EXCELLENT JOB IN WRITING AN EXCITING BOOK THAT FLOWED SMOOTHLY. IT DID NOT COME OFF AS A SERIES OF SHORT STORIES. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT BOOK FOR ROBERT E. HOWARD FANS, AND FANS OF FANTASY IN GENERAL.

Pombo obviously has no respect for the environment since he wasted numerous trees on this 225 pages of extremist nonsense. He revels in environmental "scares stories", some of which have since been proven to be false and most of which are grossly exaggerated. He never considers the alternate view, such as in what state would our environment be in if not for laws that protect it. Still spraying DDT? Even more extinctions? Clearcutting of national forests? Yosemite and Grand Canyon dammed up reservoirs?

Only those readers who already agree with him would not see this as the ravings of an unbalanced anti-environmentalist lunatic. This is obviously written for the Rush Limbaugh/Ann Coultier crowd, who are not particularly interested in facts and balanced opinions, but only want confirmation of their extremist views.

This book was incredibly frightening to me. I had no idea of how far the government has gone to take away private land ownership in this country. Now I look at every move my local, state, and federal government does in a new light, and it scares me to death. I'm not an ultra-conservative "wacko" by any means, but I am very concerned about the rapidly disappearing right of private property in this country. Read this book and you'll be concerned too.

I am giving this book the best review, possible, as it it DOES serve as "A wake-up call for every American". The rights to Life, Liberty, and PROPERTY are the cornerstones of American, and indeed HUMAN rights around the globe. Read this book!

I was going to plan a gambling excursion around the world and bought this book as a reference guide. I was very excited when it came, it listed more casinos than I ever dreamed existed. As I got to reading it, I have never seen more typos in my life: wrong phone numbers, misspellings, and it continues. I am disgusted with it.

I tried to contact the publisher on the web for a refund, and found their site is down. I would not be surprised if it is a sign of things to come for the company.

Very hard to read: even just for reference. Look elsewhere!

Back in AD 1964, the sordid details of Joe Kennedy's life were kept secret. So what you have here is a very incomplete picture. But, if you want to understand his stock trading or his ambassadorship to Great Britain, then this book is for you. But compared to Kearns-Goodwin and Kessler, this is very lop-sided.

oddly, you may be surprised about the kennedy's of massachusetts when you finish Whalen's work. It is possible that many have been quick to judge the family in a negative manner. Whalen, however, certainly points out Joseph Kennedy's very wonderful points including love of his family and gracious help for mankind. His charity for a man who wandered into his office off of the streets of Boston having just lost his son-and Mr. Kennedy buying the man a suit and paying for the funeral of that son-is particularly touching. Also of great interest to anyone interested in making a buck is how Mr. Kennedy made so much money in so many different arenas-sold out and took his profit on to the next venture-a sixth sense he had for making big money! author whalen points out this was almost always the case except his keeping ownership of Chicago's Merchandise Mart in the Kennedy name up, I believe, until currently-1998. Buy this work and then be prepared to not put it down for 48! ! hrs.! Of added interest was a historical look at how Joseph Kennedy got into B grade motion picture producing in Hollywood in the early days.

This book is not unimportant, especially to those in the Reorganized / Restorationist LDS [Mormon tradition] cultures centered primarily in Independence, MO who cling to the notion that the founder of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints was never personally a revealer, teacher or practitioner of Polygamy. Rather, that he was a 'victim' of a conspiracy within the Mormon church in IL to introduce it. This despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, documented in scholarly works during the past decade alone... The book is nicely bound and printed. Would that it's content were as praiseworthy and historically accurate. Any serious student of LDS [Mormon] History will immediately recognize that to accept the authors interpretive theories requires tremendous leaps in logic with regard to their inferential conclusions about evidence at best circumstantial and at worst completely out of context.

Was Joseph Smith polygamous? Richard and Pamela Price, despite the insistence of most "scholars" that say he was a polygamist, makes a compelling case for Joseph Smith NOT being a polygamist. They mention Joseph's repeated statements, verbal and written, against polygamy, his excommunication of persons who believed in, advocated, and/or practiced polygamy, as well as taking people to court for polygamy or for saying he was a polygamist. Personally, I find this compelling. However, in the final analysis, the reader will have to get the book, read it, and decide the issue for themselves.

Do not confuse this Monacelli Press book with the latest Rizzoli book by the same name. This one is an "artsy cofee table book" with slightly out-of-focus artsy black and white photos of a limited selection of his projects, including some of his earlier houses as well as some of his latest works. Large two page photographs are shown, together with 3 or 4 smaller ones per project, in lieu of a more comprehensive exposition of their work. If you are looking for information on their current work or design ideas check out the Rizzoli books instead.

To those very few of us who are in architectural circles, Richard Meier is a common name. I know that I quickly bought the first two volumes of his books upon entering Architecture School, and put my name on a waiting list for 3 months to get the third volume. When the book arived, I was a little disappointed at the haste in which the book was put together. It seemed to me that they were in such a rush to put out another volume of his work, that the quality of it suffered. Many of the projects shown in this book, are just completed versions of what was in the planning phases in his second book. Another disappointing feature of this book is that almost one quarter of it is dedicated to the Getty Center. I guess the reason that it seemed so spurious to me is that I had volume two AND a book on the Getty Center before purchasing this third volume, so there wasn't much new information to sink my teeth into. My recomendation is this: If you have the first two volumes- Don't be in any hurry to buy this book. It's already familiar to you, and you'll be let down.

If you don't have the first two volumes, or are new to architecture: Go and buy this book immedeately! This is a great book for you to become familiar with one of the masters of modern architecture. You'll like what you see

This 3rd in a series monograph by Rizzoli is a must-have addition to any serious architectural book library or to fans of Richard Meiers work. The numerous color photos are top rate, and together with a large number of drawings give a thorough overview of one of the top designers of today. The many photos in particular attest as to the successful completion of previously anticipated projects which have been in the pipeline, while new drawings herald new masterpieces to come.

I recently returned from a 3 month tour of Europe and took this book with me. While it did have a number of major European cities in it the actual information about them was definetly lacking. I found my self usually better off with out a book at all as opposed to only having this one. Several other travelers we met felt the same way and some were lucky enough to have Lonely Planet guides. For the money spent I'll stick to them or Rick Steves in the future. i.e. This book would take you to the train station/ subway but then fall short on what the heck to do to get a ticket!!! Which is important information stranded in 20 different stations/ subways a month each with different customs. Frommer's did do an excellent job of pointing out all of the gay and lesbian districs and bars in each city and the gay friendly hotels and shops... but they also have a strickly gay guide to Europe as well. The amount of space used for this information could have been better allocated for more pertinent information. I'll have to give a thumbs down on this book. Take something else with you or take nothing at all.

Frommer's does a good job with the general hints on travelling cheaper, but unless you plan on visiting only the major cities and capitals only, look for another book. There are 24 major cities and surrounding areas covered from Ireland to Budapest, but that's not many cities in comparison with all of Europe. I only will have a short time in Europe and that means that I will only be able to visit two of the cities listed and have to use another book for everything in between. Lonely Planet is much more inclusive and definitely covers the lower price scale.

Just returned from a 2 month trip using the 2002 guide. I found the recommendations for the restaurants to be excellent. After realizing that the Frommer's writers and I had the same tastes, I made it a point of seeking out all of their 'starred' recommendations for restaurants. The sightseeing descriptions and recommendations were also quite good. The hotel recommendations were not as good. A few of the hotels we stayed in that were not 'starred' or listed as a 'Find' were not as comfortable as hotels in other books.

We traveled with this Frommer's, Rick Steves, Lonely Planet and Rough Guides through France, Belguim, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Italy. We liked Rick Steves' recommendations for lodging, Frommer's for restaurants and both for sightseeing. Lonely Planet and Rough Guides were not used if in a Frommer's city. If in a Rick Steve's city (but not Frommer's) we used Lonely Planet for restaurant recommendations (not as good a Frommer's but better than Rick Steves).

Background: Two travelers, professional, early 30s with enough money to stay out of the hostels, but did not want to blow the bank of 5 star lodging. Rick Steve's packing philosophy. Both traveler's love to eat!!

This book comes from a person who is into legends and lore. I'll give him credit for that much of his book. The information he talks about is not 100% accurate, the dates are wrong as one example. For someone who is suppose to be an expert in the field, only makes you wonder where he got the information. To my knowledge its all legneds & lore in the book and no actual research. The tours he gives is basically a bar hopping event, makes you wonder why they see spirits. I couldn't find him to ask a question at one of the off the bus stops, maybe he is also a ghost. The tour was more of a party bus and its goes so quick by some of the locations you barely see anything. If your looking for a party take his tour.

I have been on numerous tours with Richard and have always tried to remember everything that he covers within the 5 hours. And now with the book it greatly helps out with the smaller details muched overlooked by some. Keep up the good work.

I have been on NUMEROUS tours with the famed Richard T Crowe and have been interested in Chicagos vast supernatural history since a young age. The book is a great fountain of information of folk lore stories, locations, and even it you don't believe good information on the windy city. This book deals with issues that occured before the gays-in-the-military debate was in full swing in 1993. Thus, it feels a little dated. Further, it's a collection of documents that fueled the debate, rather than an analysis or an autobiography from one of the expelled gay soldiers. Still, when I was writing my senior college thesis, this book was useful to me. Its best item is an affidavit submitted by the late gay scholar John Boswell. There are better books on the topic, but this one wasn't bad.

Ideologically this book extols Wilsonian-Weberian bureaucracy. It has an adulation for statecraft science and public administration and none for the Constitution and the Rule of Law. The cases make for interesting discussion in a Public Administration Survey class, but the questions are quite leading. (Hence, if you have a liberal professor, you best give the right... I mean 'left' answer.) The Constitutionality of any laws and policies are irrelavent to the authors. The problem with Public Administrators is that they are basically taught to be pragmatic- bend the law a little and improvise. For a conservative or libertarian this book could be tempered with 'The Tyranny of Good Intentions' and 'Lost Rights.'
