Another interesting story in this neat series.
It was a great book. Eddie's grandmother has him take piano lessons from a strange man, Lance E. Lott. The place where he takes piano lessons even looks like a castle complete with a round table. Could Mr. Lott really be a knight in shining armor? The Bailey School Kids are going to find out.

I enjoyed this book because it was funny and interesting. This story comes complete with sword fights and jousting matches. Maybe Eddie should have taken flute lessons instead. If you want to find out why you will just have to read the book.

Ryan, age 8

You should read this book if you play the piano!
Knights Don't Teach Piano, by Debbie Dodey and Marcia Thornton Jones is from a series, "The Bailey School Kids" series.
My favorite character is Liza because she is very nice. Eddie thinks he is the best at everything but he is not. There is Melody, who is really bossy, and Howie, who is really good at science. If you read this book, it will be the best!

Extra, Extra... A Terrific Book!
I read Knight's Don't Teach Piano Lessons by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thornton Jones. Knight's Don't Teach Piano Lessons is a very good book. It's about four kids who start to take piano lessons. Their teacher's name is Lance A. Lot. The four kids names are Meloby, Liza, Howie, and Eddie. I liked it because they always find something to find out, and they always have some spying to do.They are funny books. They are like detectives. I recommend this book to peole who kind of like mysteries, ages 8 to 12. There are 30 (including Knight's Don't Teach Piano.)

Much better than the manual
If you use Application Center buy this book. Far better than what passes for a manual from Microsoft and even better than the Microsoft class.

Awesome
Clear, easy examples, plenty of walk-throughs. There are a few errors, but the book also points out errors on other sources. The author was very responsive through e-mail and directed me to some updates that cleared up the errors. I'm very happy with this book.

Application Center 2000 Must Have!
When I was told by management to learn Application Center 2000 in a hurry for an upcoming project, my first step was to look for a book on the subject. Application Center 2000 is very new and Microsoft has little documentation to support it. Worse yet, the Resouce Kit is filled with errors. The first book I purchased was very technical and hard to understand. I then purchased Microsoft Application Center 2000 Configuration and Administration by Don Jones. It was different. The book is written in a style that I have found very helpful as I try to learn and deploy this new product. We will be putting Application Center 2000 in production by the end of March and this book made it happen. Thanks!

Elves really do work
The book report I am doing is called Elves Don't Wear Hard

Hats. It is about some kids where they need a new playground

for their school. They really want a new playground with some

swings. They have a building group come to make a new

playground, but they do not know what to build. They ask the

students what they wanted built, and the people who are going to

build it are Elves. The kids want a lot of things to be built

so they have to get going on it, so they tell them to all make a

list if they want to. (...) One day

something very exciting happened! I am not going to tell

what happend at the END so you have to READ it to find out!!!

I really liked this book. It made me want to read more of the

Bailey School Kids books. They are fun to read and have very

exciting endings. I would reccomend reading this book

Elves Don't Wear Hard Hats
This book is about kids that wanted a new playground. They had to share the swing. One day the construction worker came to build a new playground. One of the workers came in the room during class and asked what the kids wanted in their new playground. Well, this is a very good book and I think you should read it. I feel like reading more Bailey School kids book.

be careful what you wish for!
What if you could be granted 3 wishes... The Bailey School Gang is convinced they can do just that after they find an old bottle wedged in a tree in the school yard. They uncork it, a horrible smell issues forth, and the next day a very tall bald man named Gene shows up riding a purple bicycle. When the kids wishes suddenly start coming true (or is merely just a coincidence??) they become convinced that Gene is really a genie!!

The Bailey School Kids is an addictive series. This is number 8 and already I'm working my way through the next 5 or 6, and I'm an adult! Less creepy-spooky than others in this series ("Werewolves Don't..." and "Aliens Don't..." are more spooky than this one), this book is nevertheless a lot of fun. Gene mysteriously appears and laughs a loud laugh every time one of the kids offhandedly wishes for something. Then, that wish comes true! While our buddy Eddie doesn't believe that Gene could be a magical creature (does Eddie EVER believe anything??), readers will be very hard pressed to explain that he's not when they find out what happens to the Kid's normally boring, work-driven teacher!

The "...Don't..." series (as I call them) are all quick reads that weigh in 'round or under 100 pages. The story is easy to read and the plot catchy--what would YOU do if you wishes seemed to come true from a purple bicycle-riding genie? This makes "Genies Don't..." a good choice for beginning-to-intermediate readers or children/students who are normally reluctant to read. I wouldn't classify it as MY personal favorite, but I still enjoyed the book a good deal and would recommend it.

Experience the magic of Aladdin!
This story is about a group of kids who find a lamp. But after rubbing it things start changing! Amazing things happen! I highly recommend this book for you not just to read, but to EXPERIENCE the magic! I also think that it brings out the imagination in a kid. Especially a kid who is just starting to read chapter books. When I was just starting to read chapter books, I'd always wanted to read the Bailey School Kids books. Now I can't stop!

Skeleton's Don't Play Tubas or Do They?
Skeletons Don't Play Tubas Debbie Daddy and Marcia Jones

Wouldn't it be scary to have a skeleton sitting behind you that you thought was alive? You will find out that there are a lot of scary items that will make you scream.

This book is about four kids that try and save their school from an evil skeleton, At least they think it's evil, read this book and find out what happens.

I really like this book because of the action and the musical sounds. My favorite character is Liza. She comes up with a lot of great ideas that Eddie doesn't like.

I think the author wrote this book to teach kids that caring about their school is the right thing to do especialy when there is a toy skeleton involved.

The book is very mysterious.
I like Skeletons Don't Play Tubas because whenever Liza gets really scared her nose bleeds. The kids think that Mr.Belgrave teaches a skeleton how to play the tuba. My favorite character is Eddie because he always gets in trouble.I recommend this book for grades 1, 2, and 3 because it is a fun book to read and it is very funny.

Oom-pah, oom-pah!!
Strange adults and odd happenings are becoming commonplace in and around Bailey Elementary. But could the new band teacher, Mr. Belgrave, REALLY be teaching his skeleton to play the tuba??

The Bailey Kids are back in this 11th installment of their adventures. After first glimpsing a very tall, extremely skinny bald man carrying a long box through the cemetery, the Bailey kids are a bit surprised to find out that he's their new band teacher! More surprised to learn that he's got a skeleton named Claude in his classroom! Is this isn't creepy enough, the low, howling sound of the tuba is heard now and then, but no one-including Mr. Belgrave-knows how to play it! Could it be his skeleton?? Other weird occurances happen as well, Liza is almost certain she saw Claude the skeleton tap his foot in time to the music! Is she seeing things, or is the skeleton ALIVE?

This series goes back and forth between the just plain fun to the downright creepy. While "Leprachauns Don't Play Basketball" was a fun holidayish romp, "Skeletons Don't..." was outright spooky. While it isn't necessary to begin with book #1 and work your way through all of the books, you may find that it's an addictive, fun series and an easy read.

Entertaining but getting old, predictable
Once again the Baily School Kids Melody, Eddie, Howie, and Liza have found that they have a pretty wierd adult in Baily City, and it just turns out to be their ecology project coordinator. Mr. Bunyip is definitely strange. He says he comes from Australia and he came to the United States because people were overcrowding his space. Plus he chases wild turkeys!! Melody knows somethings up again so she does some research and comes up with the conclusion that Mr. Bunyip is a swamp monster. Well, once again that Baily School Kids are out to save Baily City and this time in a ecological way too by cleaning Swamp Dread! However will cleaning be the only way to drive out Mr. Bunyip? Read to find out!!!

These Baily School Kids books are quite entertaining and still give me a few laughs. However these books are definitely getting more predictable and the plot lines are practically the same in all the books with just different monsters. I have been reading these books for 4 years and I still find them to be entertaining at times but I usually only read them if I have a lot of spare time. To sum it up: Still not a bad read for a cold dreary day!!! Especially would be good for little kids cause I think part of the reason I am not that interested in them anymore is because I am much older now!

GREAT BOOKS!
The Bailey City School books are great! You'll love them! Also, be sure to check out the other books and book series by the same authors - Barkley's School For Dogs - Bailey City Monsters - Triplett Trouble. They're great, too!

One of the best books I've read!
This one kept me laughing.

Fear Itself: A Fearless Jones Novel

Expanding the Franchaise?
The plot of the Story very Chandler-esque with a bit of a James Ellroy hink. However, the heavy 'oppressed negro' theme got quite boring.

Mosley is a one trick pony with characters. 'Fearless Jones' is 3/4th 'Mouse' and 1/4 'Easy' from the Easy Rawlin's series. Paris Minton is a riff on the 'Jackson Blue'(?), genius, cowardly, burglar who stole Jesus's savings character from Easy Rawlin's with a dash of Mosley himself.

I think the author needs to decide, which series to go forward with. I vote for Easy Rawlin's and not more of the same in Fearless Jones.

Missing jewels, journals and the temptation of greed...
Walter Mosley strikes again in his new thriller, Fear Itself, set in 1955 Watts, only ten years before the Watts Riots, when the frustrated citizens react to ongoing police brutality by demonstrating their outrage, the result a conflagration that almost destroys the city in the process. In 1955, things are still quiet, although the inhabitants of this Los Angeles suburb are cautious in the extreme in any encounters with the white man. The people of Watts understand that there are severe consequences for every action, generally circumspect in public behavior, avoiding unnecessary conflict with those in authority. Every Sunday, the churches ring with song when parishioners sing of deliverance and redemption.

Enter Paris Minton, a used bookstore owner and admitted coward, mostly content to remain ensconced within his world of words. When Fearless Jones coming knocking one night, asking for help in tracking down Kit Mitchell, Paris happily agrees. He has his reasons. For one thing, the usually timid Paris is imbued with a sense of empowerment in the presence of Fearless, an ex-soldier capable of expedient violence, but restrained by common sense and integrity. Fearless' physical prowess ensures Paris' safety, having come in handy on more than one occasion. Something about his friend allows the usually timid Paris to stand a little taller, a bit more of a man.

The police have Fearless in their sights, for "questioning", so Paris does the footwork necessary to unravel the mystery, secure in the knowledge that Fearless is close behind. As their search for Mitchell progresses, Paris' personal danger increases and dead bodies cause unwanted complications in unraveling the mystery. At the heart of it all: a stolen heirloom, a priceless slave journal and enough money to attract crooks from miles around.

Mosley's multi-layered plot abounds with unpredictable twists and turns. The author's particular appeal lies in the lively dialog of a fabulous assortment of eccentric characters. Paris' literate approach balances perfectly with Fearless' street-wise charm, allowing the well-educated Paris an adventurous romp on the dark side of the street. The inspired pairing of the intrepid Fearless Jones and the refined demeanor of Paris Minton, will doubtless garner even more Mosley fans, as they anticipate the next adventure of the unlikely duo. Luan Gaines/2003.

Great historical mystery
In 1955 Los Angeles, Leora Hartman hires Fearless Jones to find Kit Mitchell, the father of her son, who simply vanished. Though the case seems quite simple, finding someone who appears to have just moved on, Fearless quickly concludes he needs some intellectual help and who better than a book lover would suffice? So he enlists his friend, book seller Paris Minton to help him.

However, the easy queries that his mousy friend makes soon prove perilous as everyone including the client lie and are willing to use, even perhaps kill, Fearless and Paris. Others have vanished too with the sleuthing duo learning they, including Kit, are probably all dead. The dynamic pair (at least one dynamo and one passive) soon finds themselves as part of the focus of a war between local VIPs, a cosmetics queen and a developer, which also makes Fearless and Paris important to LAPD.

Have no fear, FEAR ITSELF is a great historical mystery that not only brings to life pre- Dodger LA, but does so inside an exciting who-done-it. Though perhaps the novel has too much subterfuge (and consequently subplots), the keys to this terrific tale are the lead detectives. Fearless lives up to his name, as he is somewhat like many of the genre's hard boiled types. However, Paris brings freshness by not being a superhero preparing to break steel with his teeth. Instead he is an intelligent individual so frightened with the threats to his well being and from what he has learned about the affluent, fans including those in Brooklyn, will feel at home with him even if Johnny Padres is winning the subway series a continent away.

Important History of Rock that Shatters Illusions
If this book does not become a classic, I will be shocked and appalled. The murder of political rock musicians has long been a subject of speculation. Wish I had a nickel for every time the death of Morrison or Lennon was brought up, followed by the refrain "I'll bet the government did it." Constantine not only lays out the killing program and operations in detail, he provides the intelligence community documents in which the deaths of outspoken musicians were mandated. Who can doubt it when the CIA's own files contain orders to kill? Some programmed zombies out there subject to media manipulation will have a hard time with the many epiphonies that Covert War offers, but reality is often hard to take, even many years after the fact. This is a dispiriting, and as Constantine keeps reminding us, fascist culture, but much needed reforms will never come about until people who have become complacent and satisfied with the status quo gather as much courage as writers like Constantine possesses in his little finger. The debunkers can eat cake - I'll take this feast of buried truths any day over the pablum the media turns out to quell the national conscience and turn us all into mindless ultraconformists. This is the dark side of the air-conditioned nightmare that is Amerika. A fine book, recommended to everyone who loves rock music.

A thorough, brilliant study of rock assassinations
I have never picked up a book on rock n' roll deaths quite like this one. Each chapter is a gold mine of information, teeming with fresh insights on the deaths of John Lennon, Tupac Shakur, etc. There are many who would like to silence Constantine, and so some reviews will no doubt appear here criticizing the book erroneously. David Goldberg's review, for instance (above) makes false claims. This IS Alex Constantine's best work to date, and that is saying a great deal, because he is the most articulate anti-fascist researcher around. This book is long overdue, and yet it is far ahead of its time. Bravo, Alex, on an excellent read.

Author is Way Ahead of his Times, its almost Revolutionary
The revolution will not be televised, Alex Constantine is a writer who is exposing the right wing fasict (terrorist) intelligence agencies of the USA. Read this and you will be enlightened. And to those who call it Conspiracy theories??? These people are brainwashed by the corporate-owned media. ...
