The basics
Recommended for technical and non-technical people.
This book covers broad range of wireless topics in a handbook
format. Naturally there is no deep analysis of any topic and
no mathematics inside. The book is not 500 pages but only 384
pages. Some parts of the book and some figures directly come
from the author's another famous book named "Broadband
Telecommunications Handbook" by the same publisher.

I recommend this book for technical people to refresh their
knowledge and to have updated information on today's wireless
technologies. This book would be suitable also for non-technical
people in telecom field to have a general overview. There are
some errors in the book as usual but can be ignored. Some
descriptions are not cristal clear like the one on CDMA and
could have been better. It is an easy reading good book after
all and wellcomes to any technical library.

Oh yeah!
Oh yeah...another winner by regis and kathie lee. This book is a good addition to your bookshelf if you're keen on entertaining, giving parties, or just looking for holiday tips. While most of their books are good, I foud this especially helpful since it even covered holidays and parties. I came across many new and different ideas, not to mention ones that are economical and REALLY REALLY useful. If you've read all there is to read on this subject, then this book is just another one of them, but if not, then this is a definite addition to your bookshelf. But either way, this book is also a lot of fun,so you'll want to read it anyway.

A classic
If you want to go into depth on the rationale for the search for extraterrestrial inteligence, this anthology, like Shklovskii and Sagan's book, is a must-read. Mind you, it is a little dated and a number of the contributions are frustratingly vague, but several of the essays are classics, such as Marvin Minsky's, "Why intelligent aliens will be intelligible."

Lots of stuff to talk about
My son, now 18, and I read books to each other on all kinds of subjects. By far, this book, although not long, took the longest to get through, but only because there was so much good stuff to talk about: what is human-ness, what about immortality, what will the future look like? We'd read a couple of paragraphs and talk about it and then read some more and discuss some more. It's good science, but still accessible and light-hearted in just the right places.
A History of Bognor Regis

A worthy Tome
Bognor Regis is a popular town for many, but a joke to the chattering classes, and hardly fashionable, in spite of its royal links. In the light of this, Young has produced a well-balanced, well researched book. It's not light reading, but it is interesting.
Notice that with the exception of a little bit on cycling, there's no reference to sport. But then Gerard Young was English.

Well Written and Researched Complexity and Santa Fe Hype
This is a well researched, well written, interesting book about scientists in Santa Fe developing entrepreneurial start-ups based on complexity science. The science and business combination is fun and wide ranging. It belongs to a genre of books about the Santa Fe Institute, of which Michael Waldrop's Complexity is one of the earliest and best. Many of the characters are the same in both books. My criticism of the Info Mesa is that much of it reads like publicity hype. It overstates the scientific accomplishments of the Santa Fe Institute and the importance of complexity research. It overstates the health of the tech business climate in Santa Fe. It romanticizes the people who work at SFI. It romanticizes the town in which they work. The descriptions of Santa Fe are so over the top as to be laughable to those of us who live here. Not even our tourist brochures hype Santa Fe so well. So, in conclusion, the Info Mesa's story isn't really so. All of you should just stay home, and leave Santa Fe to those of us who got here before you. ;-)

A perfect field guide, if only...
This book is, judging by content and structure, the European twin of "National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms" by Gary A. Lincoff, Gary H. Lincoff. It is very exhaustive and easy to use, has excellent description and photos. It also came with a vinyl jacket, a very useful thing for a field guide. I took away one star because it does not state the edibility of each species, a crucial feature of every mushroom guide for mushroom hunters. Comments about edibility are sparse and sometimes refers to vague groups of species. If the author considers this for the future editions (mine was published in 1999), this will make the perfect field guide of European mushrooms.

Excellent, for the serious reader
The book has two main sections. The first is a review of the geographic features. The second is a history up to the creation of the park in 1872. The early history, of fur trappers and explorers, is the meat of the book and is fascinating. I'll admit the book is a bit of a slow read, but I couldn't find any other book with near the detail that's in this one. Strangely, it was not available at the stores in the park when I visited last week.

A good overview of Francis's most important writings
Regis Armstrong, O.F.M. Cap., applies his extensive scholarly knowledge of Franciscan primary sources to produce a readable introduction for the layperson. Includes many new translations by Armstrong. Book is organized as a commentary with excerpts from Francis's writings interspersed throughout. The book has no index -- a major flaw which makes the book far less usable than it should be.

Beyond this point, I found that Bates repeated the same information time and time again without any new twist. I can not say that I will forget what he had to say, but he did not enrich the information. He also prognosticates based upon inspiration without any facts. After the latest "hockey stick market" bust, I would be careful basing any demand and penetration projections on historical information.
Finally, do not use the table of contents as an indicator of the depth of this book (like I did).
