Trust me, you can save money!
When I buy a book from online, I trust one star more than five stars. Because that realy save my money.

Great Book....
The is the first book I have read with REAL marketing insightsinstead of some fluff written by a consultant. I highly recommend this book...

Incredible....Finally, a true insider's account.
I am an Internet executive who has read most books on Internet marketing. I can honestly say this was the best book on Internet marketing I have read to date. The interview format solicits true insider advice, and is extremely useful and practical. I was especially impressed by John Herr's chapter (VP of Buy.com). Great book!

Hokey Pokey myth perpetuated
As someone who has lived and worked in the Hunza and Baltistan region of northern Pakistan for a decade, it is important to first debunk the myth that the Burushushki, Wakhi and Shina people of the Hunza region are blessed with the lives of Methusula. This was actually a myth which gained momentum when it was written up by Dr. Alexander Leaf, in the January 1973 issue of National Geographic magazine. There is absolutely no scientific validity to his claim....

People of the Hunza suffer from malnutrition and nutrition deficiencies just as much as any other remote mountain region in SE Asia. Although the predominantly Ismaeli faith (branch of Shi-ite muslims) are progressive and relatively better off than most of their neighbours in nearby regions, they will all tell any visitor, that their life expectancy is around 50 - 60 years, just like any other region of northern Pakistan.

With that said, there certainly is valuable information in Jay Milton Hoffman and John Westerdahl's book about nutrition, stress reduction that would benefit millions in our obese western societies.

Not enough depth
I was a little disappointed with this book. A fascinating people, however Dr. Hoffman's descriptions lacked depth, and did not go into the Hunzakut's lifestyle in any detail. A tale of the Hoffman's travels to Hunza was interesting, but not necessarily relevant to the title of the book; neither is Dr. Hoffman's own personal views on the human diet. However it is an interesting read, I am now looking for a book that can look at the Hunza people and their life habits in more detail.

This book was informative and changed my life.
I am just 15 years old. This book is the ultimate guide for anyone who wants to become stress free and healthy. It explores vegetarianism and other awsome ways to enhance your health. You will not be disapointed after reading this.

Good school, great team, so-so book
This was a light, fast, enjoyable read, but in the end, my pleasure stemmed from the subject moreso than the author's skill. Having read many of John Feinstein's works, I was expecting an "inside" look at the Gonzaga program: the story of a season through the eyes and words of players and coaches. Instead, Mr. Withers cobbles together a series of brief histories: of the school, of the coaching staff, of the team, of the WCC, etc. Although there are interviews with coaches, players and recruits, it seemed as though Withers spent most of his time compiling and recounting articles from newspaper achieves and school promotional literature.

If you like college hoops, and have enjoyed Gonzaga's seeminingly improbable success in recent NCAA tournaments, then you'll enjoy this book. If, however, you want to know what it's like to be a student-athlete or coach campaigning towards the "big dance" next March, this book doesn't deliver.

Zag Fans in the Boonies
Zag Fans who live in the boondocks like I do (Reno, NV) have had to rely on the internet and the GU athletic department web-site for information on the Bulldogs' recent success. BraveHearts provides a succinct recap of the GU basketball program's up and downs over a longer period of time. I attended GU from Fall '75 to Spring '79 so much of what B. Withers covers in this enjoyable book was news to me. The chapter on ex-coach and athletic director Dan Fitzgerald was good reporting and while Withers may not be John Feinstein, he has certainly put in the time and research needed to portray the Bulldog basketball program in a complete fashion-- warts and all.

If you're a Gonzaga alumni or related to one, this would make a nice gift.

Nice package, but might contain errors?
This hardcover version of The Federalist (papers) comes is a nice package so to speak. The end of the book contains both the Declartion of Indepenence and the Constitution. Unlike most other Federalist papers books which are written as paperbacks using cheap newsprint paper, this uses a higher quality and brighter paper. The nice part about this book, unlike alotof others is that it contains the dates for each paper... alot of reproductions don't have this.

After reading the book however, I became quite concerned
because I noticed immediately that the author (intentionally or unintentionally) changed many of the words in the The Federalist!! This annoys me to no end. It's extremely bad practice for purposes of history, to change words in historical documents, because those "translated" words might accidentally get passed to future generations without aknowledgement that that wasn't what the founding fathers actualy wrote. I noticed at least a dozen changed words... there are probably thousands of errors for all I know.. This is bad, bad, bad.

Heres an example from Federalist Paper #1: (pg. 3)
This book writes: "After a full experience of the insufficiency of the existing federal government, you are invited to deliberate upon a new Constitution for the United States of America..."

Every other book in existence writes: "AFTER an unequivocal experience of the inefficacy of the subsisting federal government, you are called upon to deliberate on a new Constitution for the United States of America...."

Notice the subtle, yet immensely importance difference in words.
Now what gives this dumb author the right as a scholarly academian to change the words of our founding fathers. In fact, I don't even know which version is truly correct?? (I assume the majority rules, so this book comes out the loser.)

And these errors continue right through Federalist paper #1, and several others that I noticed... Maybe even all of them!

Also, the author has a nasty habit of decapitalising words which should be capitalized in historical conext. Our founding fathers, as was customary grammar at the time, capitalized many words in the middle of the sentance. I don't fully understand the details of antiquated English, however, when I buy a book on historical figures, I expect, nay, I demand, that the reproduction be produced in exactly the manner in which it was presented by our founding fathers. It can be difficult to understand antiquated English, especially some of the stuff written by James Madison, however, I'd rather do the mental translation myself.

It's a nice book, but I cannot in good conscience give this
anything above 2 stars. In fact, I think it deserves no stars.

NOTE: After researching the matter a little bit, it occurs to me that there are actually two common distinct "translations" and this book presents just one of them.... so I take back blaming the editor. I'm not sure of the origin of these modern translations... but it does seem that this version is much less popular than what is presented in other Federalist Paper repros.
I still claim that this version is error.

A Wonderful Edition of American Political History
This is a very nice edition of the Federalist's Papers. An idea which was inaugurated by James Hamilton to help abate the opposition which was expected toward the newly written constitution.

This Modern Library edition has several features which sets it apart from other editions. First, the editor's introduction (by Robert Scigliano of Boston College) is quite informative and helpful for those who are just getting started in their study and research of American history. And yet it is detailed enough to be informative for those who have a stronger background in American Revolutionary history. Second, the appendices include The Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation and the Constitution of the U.S. along with the amendments. Third, the book has a short but nice bibliography, as well as a nice and very useful index. All these features helped to set this particular edition apart from other editions that I have owned or read.

Of course, the Federalist writings are some of the key writings in American Revolutionary history. Every American should be required to read them since they were written with the intent of promoting the ratification of the constitution. These writings contain the ideas and development of the American system of government, the separation of powers, how congress is to be organized, and the positions of the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government. This work provides its reader with the thoughts, inspirations, and brilliance behind the American Constitution and development of American government.
I highly recommend this edition of the Federalists.

Confusing and disappointing
I read "The Night Crew" while waiting for the latest Prey novel to come out in paperback. If this is any indication of his non-Lucas material, I won't be in a hurry to check out his Kidd series.

Normally, I think Sandford is a great storyteller who writes with clarity. This book is just sloppy. I had a very hard time figuring out what was happening and why.

Also, none of the characters or their relationships really ring true, except for Anna's platonic relationship with her second-in-command of sorts, Creek.

It's a quick read, and it's not totally horrid, but I would recommend it only as a last resort if you're the type that absolutely has to have something to read and this is all you can find.

I liked it!
Like other reviewers, I am a big fan of the Prey Series. And like other reviewers, I found the style of Night Crew substantially different from that of the Preys.

But I liked it.

With respect to the style -- there are two really obvious differences. One is the location, Los Angeles, as opposed to Minneapolis-St Paul, the center of the Prey universe. This is perhaps the biggest weakness of the book. The reader doesn't get a real feel for the locale, or the feeling Sandford spent much time there. LA was just a name, with its associated collection of street names, but it could have been almost anywhere else, for all I knew. I had no sense of the atmosphere that comes out in Michael Connelly's work.

The other obvious difference is the main character is female. I find it fascinating when an author writes on a protagonist of the opposite gender. In this case, Sandford is more successful, as far as I can tell as a male. I never had the feeling that the character was straying into a male perspective.

Other aspects of the book were also good. Unlike most of the Prey material, this book was a bit more mystery, a bit less thriller. In mysteries, the question is what did happen, while in thrillers, the question is only what will happen. And Sandford plays fair. He provides enough clues for educated conjecture without making it easy on the reader to guess the answer.

I also liked the characters. Probing characters isn't Sandford's strong point in any of his work. But I found the ones in this book likeable and, unlike other reviewers, I found them believable.

So I recommend Night Crew. It was a lot of fun to read, and I didn't feel at all cheated at the end. It isn't Lucas Davenport, but it doesn't need to be.

Don't read this book with Prey books in mind. Just enjoy it.
I had not read a Sandford book for about 2 years. I noticed this was a new venture and picked it up. I found it to be every bit as good as the prey books but it is different. I liked the plot and characters and hope that he continues with this line of books. I have since read a couple more Prey books and indeed enjoyed them. Don't make the mistake of trying to compare the two. it's to easy to get use to Davenport. Judge Night Crew on its own and I think you will give it 5 stars as I did.

Not for the average man!
I bought this book thinking that it would tell me something about the problems I was having with my car. Not knowing that much about cars I was just as clueless after buying it as I was before. Maybe they should put somekind of warning on the cover saying just how much machanical knowhow you need to use this book.

Very complete for the home mechanic
This volume contains even more information than previous Haynes manuals I have used. It contains good, clear photographs of various parts of the car in place and partially dismantled, not just line drawings. I was pleasantly surprised to find information on how to get the "check engine soon" light to go out after changing oil and other service procedures. It also includes a pretty complete set of wiring diagrams. These are things not always found in car repair manuals for the do-it-yourselfer.

Lacking in substance
There's not much to this book besides dated photos of people with '80s big hair and a few introductory paragraphs about getting acquainted with the saxophone. More to the point, there's little to the contents that makes its focus anymore "contemporary" than any other Volume 1 saxophone book. And there are plenty of better books like that out there. I wish I'd passed this one by.

contemporary saxophone
a great book made even better with the addition of the CD instead of the cassette.

not enough information & very misleading
89 dodge ram 100. Water in the oil. Replaced head gaskets and bearings. The book had no directions about installing rod and mains. No torque specs. Not knowing how to install the bearings because no information was provided, the bearings spun, and it had very very low oil pressure. The bearings & crankshaft is trashed.

Haynes Repair Manual Dodge Pickups 1974 thru 1993
I have been using Haynes repair manuals for years. The information on the torque specifications for the connecting rod and main bearing caps along with all the other information on a complete rebuild is in Chapter 3 Part C. Haynes Repair Manuals are very informative books and are based on a complete teardown and rebuild. The information is there.

Ok, for being first. Now its superseded
This book has at least 10 authors and is fun to read for the first few chapters. Then I really got annoyed to read the same things over and over again and at the same time I missed some more in depth explanations. A lot is done with the framework itself. This is probably due to the very early delivery date of the book. Though I really enjoyed the C# example (game of life) I think you be better served with Hollis, Lhotka "VB.Net Programming". Also there seem to be quite a few other books out by now.

Okay...but
This is a good introduction to .net, as the cover says, but me thinks it was just a ploy to make money. Not very useful at all, but if you are a beginner to .NET, then you might want to browse through it to get a general feel for the framework.

Great Overview for .Net
I have purchased several Dot Net books as of late. I thought the book was very thorough as an overview. This book was not intended to be a programmers guide to any single language in the Dot Net suite. But if you want a book to give you some insight as to what Dot Net is all about, this is a great place to start. I also purchased Wrox "Programming C# with the public Beta", although this book is being replaced with Professional C#, I still learned much from this title as well.

Neanderthal: A Novel
Published in Audio Cassette by Random House (Audio) (May, 1996)
Authors: John Darnton and Jay O. Sanders
Amazon base price: $18.00
Used price: $2.43

good entertainment
I enjoyed this very much. Enough detail for a good storey but not so many that it bogged it down.

An Instant Classic
In our so-called sophisticated society, we as humans choose to ignore the possibility that simplicity is the greatest life. In this story, two archeologists with a past are brought back together to 'rescue' their professor from the unknown. With life and death moments, scientific discoveries, enigmas, and true character development, we discover why humans are at the top of the food chain and what really caused Neanderthals to die out... A must read for all ages.

a solid entertaining read
I would have given this book 4 and a half stars, had that been an option. I thought it was a good book with a brilliant concept behind it. I chose it, because of it's subject matter, having just finished Waiting by Frank M. Robinson, which is a lighter faster fair of a similar subject matter. But back to Neanderthal, the only thing I could say I didn't particularly appreciate about the book was the incredible amount of the "word-of-the-day" words,it's always nice to read a literate author, but it seemed a bit overwhelming at times. The characters were mostly realistic and the narrative was well paced. Overall I'd definetely reccomend this book to anyone with a flair for adventure type thriller.
