Dr. Bernstein extends yet another strong and helpful hand in his most recent self-help book, "How to Deal with Emotionally Explosive People." This book helps me understand how to diffuse the emotional dynamite when dealing with over-reactive friends, depressed family members and grouchy co-workers. Each chapter reads true to life stories while the writer generously provides us with a solid ground of knowledge. It convinced me that, even in the most perplexing emotionally charged situations, I can be part of the solution instead of the problem. This is a book about building ones own emotional resilience. The real risk in using this book as prescribed is discovering what lies on the other side of our destructive patterns in human interactions and thought.

I've seen most of Dr. Bernstein's books since the Dinosaur Brain.
What distinguishes this one most is that it is so lucid. Even when he dives into the clinical under-pinnings of a garden variety temper tantrum at the office, he never seems lofty, merely credible. He shows us the root causes without asking us to become the company shrink.
Being clear in communication is fundamental to good management, so it's refreshing to find a book that models it. The advice is direct, unpretentious, sensible, layered with compassionate understanding. Dr. Bernstein understands that we have to get back to work, but invites us to handle the contretemps of colleagues with intelligent empathy.
Someone who has worked in management 20-30 years, will nod in recognition at the discussions of difficult employees. If your role involves helping others deal with those individuals calmly, this is the book for you.

This book provides steak and potatoes advice in a genre so often filled with alfalfa sprouts. In my job as a manager just this morning I had to deal with an angry customer and then a sobbing employee and I was able to handle both these situations effectively. In one case the situation was a mirror image of an example in the book and though the advice was not what my inclination might have been I took a chance and handled the situation as suggested with stunning results. I am impressed.
The writing style was easy to read, and I swear, the people Dr. Bernstein is writing about are my friends, coworkers and neighbors. I feel armed with practical advice for dealing with situations which, in the past,left me wondering what to do or berating myself after the fact for making this worse.

Philip Lisa is the driving force behind this book. He is a man of extensive knowledge on the subject of James Bond and his ability to discuss this subject is boundless. This book covers each of the Broccoli / United Artists James Bond films. These are the official films. The book gives objective information on each title written with editorial doses of interest which maintains a consistency of perspective from cover to cover. There are no favorites in the traditional sense. The authors know very well that no filmmaker or group of filmmakers ever intentionally makes an inferior motion picture. It is all a matter of how well the filmmakers combine their efforts and produce a finished product. The focus of the book is the filmmaking, not hype or glamour. The Bond films have always maintained a high ideal of production standards and this book examines that process. Besides the filmmaking this book also examines the James Bond phenomena from product merchandising (including books, toys, music, videos, games, etc.) to the cultural impact of Ian Fleming's hero. It even covers such offshoots such as the animated TV series "James Bond Jr." The book also contains key interviews with members of the acting and production crews. It is also profusely and beautifully illustrated with many colour photographs. I highly recommend this book. And take from me, Philip Lisa is more than just a contributor on this publication.

This is the best book concentrating on the James Bond films series and the phenomena it created. Written with great knowledge, gusto and inspiration this an excellent work on the subject. What is very good about this informative work is that the two authors never editorialize in a derogatory manner. If something in a film did not work, they give us their interpretation of what went wrong and suggest other possibilities. There are many unique photographs illustrating this book. It also covers James Bond Collecting. It is well written and I highly recommend it. My copy goes up to "Licence to Kill" but I do know that another printing followed which included "GoldenEye."

For all the James Bond fans, anything which is more intriguing is welcome at any time. From the time in 1957 when the first movie of James Bond came alive on the small screen to the first feature movie (Dr. No.) in 1962, every single item has been a treasure for a James Bond fan. It is really surprising that this book by Lee Pfeiffer has been missed out in author reviews. Considering the wealth of information that it offers about the celebrated facts of James Bond - the masterly creation of Ian Fleming and brought alive by Cubby Broccoli is a collectors dream. Having this book in the already thick treasure trove of Bond books, movies, cassettes, videos and trivia collection has been a matter of pride for me.

I wish that other Bond fans like me come forward and acknowledge the excellent documentation. As a sign off I would like to say that the book can be described in one word " INCREDIBLE"

This is a wonderful book about a father and son leading revisions in southern traditions. The father's dreams and roots are within the son's reality and fruits. Al Gore Jr. has fully developed into the responsible man his father has molded. The subtle teachings from Gore's grandparents to parents to children actually helped transform the south and is evident throughout the book.

Although Al Gore Sr. voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act for political survival it did not deter his march to changes in character. Today, Affirmative Action, Unions and Abortion Rights are now accepted in Tennessee something that was Anathema in prior history and shows Gores real profile of courage.

The father's legacy can be carried on by the son's leadership by the abandonment of the "Politics Of Demagogues." Athens was a pure democracy where every citizen could vote on anything and the majority ruled. Leaders struggled for power by convincing the people they had the best plans for them. Overtime, the education of aristocrats produced many able men, but the poor who could not afford schooling fell victim to listening despots, agitators and demagogues.

Demagogues were candidates who promised anything to gain power and worried more about how they said something, rather what they were saying. These demagogues eliminated many good man from achieving office who would provide not just a life but a good life for the people. For example, Socrates was voted by the people to commit suicide, Themistocles was sent into exile. Eventually, Athens fell from plague within while fighting a Persian siege from abroad. The author reflects on such events of his own experiences.

Al Gore can change the Democratic Demagogues preaching class warfare like his father changed the segregationists. The pitting of "haves" against "have nots," seniors entitlements versus children's futures, and the uneducated hostile to the educated like the old south, has pass its time!

As in the book Democrats must change for the betterment of all. The day of tax and spend remedies that die under there own weight of too many taxes and too few revenues needs to change. Regulated private and semi-private solutions to public problems is a good alternative compromise. And where private solutions fail, government can step in for the benefit of the needy. Al Gore can lead the Democrats and Republicans to reach beyond history, toward a blazing more encompassing future of good ideas to eliminate class envy by letting people help people, not degrade each other.

"Let the Glory Out," has the solutions for new ideology within the courage of Al Gore's boyhood from father to son. The age of Democratic Demagogues promising free health care, free housing and free prescriptions' drugs when nothing comes free without burdens must end. At the same time, saying opponents will starve babies, cause dirty water and let the elderly die is pure demagoguery and must end too!

What I found refreshing in the book is Gore admissions that he often goes overboard in his zeal to serve the public. Whether it be mean personal attacks, over exaggerations or passionate pleads, he reflects after each one of them wondering if he has gone too far. More evidence of Gore being a man with a conscious and his concession speech was one of the finest ever given in history after a long bitter political fight.

The father's memoir shows the reader a quick look into a public servant who changed not himself but an entire state for the better. A simple story shared with a devoted son about his father in a way we learn more about the author's values too! I highly recommend it!

Albert Gore Sr. was an incredible politician and public servant, ahead of his time. It is shame, in a way, that we can't have him for President. But, in this meantime, it is valuable to read the how, where, and why Al Gore got the values he did, and strong values they are.

It is easy to see why Al Gore has grown up to be the man he is. In Al Gore Sr.'s political memoir, we see a rare figure in American politics--a man who is slow to reason, but quick to act; smart enough to understand the issues, but compassionate enough to think of the consequences of his policies. Senator Gore held firm to basic American values during the turbulent times of his political career, the values of fairness and concern for the little guy. Even if it weren't a good background study into what makes our VP (and possibly next president) tick, and regardless of one's political persuasion "Let the Glory Out"--with its great introduction and eulogy from junior to senior Gore--is a terrific testimony of the love between father and son.

I have used this review book since its first edition both for h.s. chem. and as a review in my AP chem classes. I don't think there is a more thorough or clearly written review book than this one on the market. For students preparing for the SAT II in chem, the book needs be supplemented with additional questions of the type used on that exam.

This book is as good as gold.! DeFazio's treatment of TSAR is one of the best I've ever seen.

You can't swing a dead cat in a college bookstore without hitting another book about Hemingway. However, A. DeFazio has graced us with a unique and interesting review about Hemingway and his timeless novel, The Sun Also Rises (TSAR). DeFazio topples the usual misconceptions regarding Hemingway and delves into the rich information surrounding Hemingway's inscribing of TSAR. Also, DeFazio provides a crisp analysis of the expatriate movement and events surrounding the timeline of TSAR, a must for fully understanding Hemingway's true intent of the novel. After reading DeFazio's opus, you feel an intimate closeness to Hemingway and his characters. DeFazio brings the once-secluded world of Hemingway, previously only encountered by the most devoted of Hemingway scholars, to our hands. However, DeFazio doesn't just provide analysis of the work, he includes a subtle display of Hemingway's true genius behind TSAR, conjuring much respect for Hemingway and his first major work. Nothing can properly compliment the harsh prose that made TSAR a classic, but DeFazio tries damn hard, and does a jim-dandy job. DeFazio's Literary Masterpieces: The Sun Also Rises (LMTSAR) is an invaluable companion to the timeless masterpiece. But the greatest part of the book must be the "extras" that are so common yet so poorly tailored in most companion books. DeFazio includes pictures of cafes, bullfights and many other settings. All of the locales of the book, and many other elements Hemingway touched on are detailed and advanced in LMTSAR to a point where you 're walking down the streets of the working quarter with Jake Barnes and Rob Cohn, listening to the sounds of ragged jazz from a street side café and taking sips from a bottle of good bottle of Port. Truly, the level of detail DeFazio has provided us in LMTSAR will amaze everyone, from that indifferent teenager in the back of the classroom who smells like bud, to Michael Reynolds himself. If you're going to have one companion book to the great work of Hemingway, make it DeFazio's LMTSAR...

"There is no love of life without despair of life."-These words haunted me when I first read this book nearly ten years ago. I then lent it out, never to be returned. (Ahem, I've become very cautious about lending books out since then.) Anyway, I just recently repurchased this book and reread it, and I still (unlike Camus' himself) regard the LYRICAL essays herein as much more beautiful, powerful and significant than the much touted The Stranger (which I, however, like as well, only on another level.)
It's quotes like the one above and "Knowing that certain nights whose sweetness lingers will keep returning to the earth and sea after we are gone, yes, this helps us die." that make this collection of essays Camus' best work.
The Stranger is, indeed, a unique contribution to post-WWII literature. But these essays are unique as well as powerful and beautiful. My bet is that, a century from now, these essays will be remembered long after the "existentialist" vogue has long faded, as Camus' best work.
My apologies to those who worship terse, arid prose. It has its place. But it's not the stuff of truly great literature. The lyrical essays contained herein are.

Everyone should read this book and tell everyone they know about it! With the possiblities present with rebound exercise there is no need to spend so much time and effort trying to get into good physical condition. The bottom line for anyone reading about the subject Speer is that he has convinced himself of his innocence by an intelligent phsycological re-construction of events.

He always knew and was aware of what was happening...period. But a facinating individual he was nevertheless. Detached and aloof he twisted the truth in one of the worlds great pieces of fabrication.

Albert Speer, Hitler's architect and minister of armaments, is a fascinating figure. This book examines his inner struggle with personal responsibility for crimes of the 3rd Reich. Should be read with Gitta Sereny's "Albert Speer His Battle with Truth." Miriam Pollard has written a wonderful book.

To say that Albert Speer "repented" is to insult the entire concept. I believe it is possible that a person as evil as Speer could repent. I just don't believe that Speer ever really did - he did what he had to do to save his own hide. To raise Speer to the level of some sort of icon is ludicrous.
