Excellent practical cases from real life!
I require this text in my graduate New Venture course at Western Michigan University. The real life cases and fundamental concepts covered provide a great foundation for New Venture teaching. I also require my start-up consulting clients to read Chpt 1,2 & 3 along with the case study "R&R". Good way to find out if they have what it takes. I first used and enjoyed this book from the other side of the class during my MBA studies at the GSB - University of Chicago.

a very comprehensive history of the West
Although primarily a reference book, it is the kind I would like to read page after page. I wish it had been printed in two volumes. The type is extremely small and tiresome to read at any length

Learning Ned Rorem - Lesson One
I came about Rorem 'round about-ly -through videos of interviews and liner note snippets - and was greatly intrigued by his blatantly keen mind. While learning the music, I put the 'word' into it all and it plunged me even deeper. Between his impish candor and spotless observation one experiences a fine chunk of a true artistic pursuit. Also, his reflections on the two worlds of Paris and New York and the creative flora and fauna therein are priceless.

A Book for Every Thinker
This book is a must read for all who have opinions about Politically Incorrect subjects. Whether it is overpopulation, abortion or Gay Pride, the reader will be able to not only express (his)(his/her)(their) opinion more effectively but also appreciate the opposing view. Dr. Kainz effectively presents both sides of the subjects so that the reader has a better understanding of widespread disagreements in today's society. The result should be more tolerance (another subject he debates).

The ULTIMATE satirization of America
If you have ever, i mean ever had a gripe with America, this book is for you, and who hasn't really. R. Crumb comes from so many differnet angels and makes fun of so many different ideologies and people in America, it really covers it all. Of course, he does it all in his unique style of sick humor that you must experience to know. You'll either love it or you'll throw upon first read. Let me warn you that this artist is considered to be by many "racist" "mysogynist" "hateful" "jingoist" "sadistic" "masochistic", etc... but his defense would be that he is an artist and is merely an observer and portrayer of what he sees around him in America. I'd agree that you shouldn't pretend taht things like racism don't exist. In any case some other conflicts he makes fun of and comments on are: corporate greed, military jingoism, mindless political correctness, sixties counter culture, utopianism, stereotypes of the "white man", the "angry black man", the "jewish conspiracy", hippies, losers, corporate scum, and just "normal" people...THis is not a book for children or people with high-blood pressure. He is a dangerous cartoonist and is always pushign the boundaries of everything. In the end though if this book is nothing else it is a laugh...at ourselves and everything else that is America.

Robert E Howard (Starmont Readers Guide Ser. No. 35)
Published in Hardcover by Borgo Pr (1987)
Author: Marc Cerasini
Amazon base price: $17.95
Average review score:

Outstanding! Thoroughly researched and insightful.
If you've never read any of Robert E. Howard's fiction because of those lame-@$$ Conan movies then you are missing out on a real treat. Mr. Cerasini and his colleague Charles Hoffman are considered the country's premeir REH scholars and that rep was earned SOLELY by this slim volume. In addition to the larger than life warrior from Cimmeria for whom REH is best remembered, Messrs. C. and H. cover Kull, Solomon Kane, Red Sonja, and lesser stars, plus his contributions to contemporary author H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos stories. The authors make their case that in addition to almost single-handedly creating hard-boiled American fantasy, they also feel that had he not taken his own life he'd be more famous for the natural writing he'd started at the end of his career, a sort of James Dickey/John McPhee type. (My choice of authors, not theirs!). If you liked "The Whole Wide World", the movie based on REH's life, you can't miss out on this cult-status volume of LitCrit that places REH squarely where he deserves, in the pantheon of Classic American Authors. Enjoy!

Howard's first attempt
You've met Conan. Now meet Kull, King of Atlantis, who lived 500 years before Conan. Who is Kull? He's a barbarian who usurped a throne. Sound familiar? His constant companion and bodyguard is a Pictish war named
Brule the Spear-slayer. He deals with a bevy of supernatural
problems. They run the gamut from nobles trying to overthrow him to Serpent Men trying to assassinate him with
the zombie of a long-dead king, to Thulsa Doom, and Tuzun
Thune. Those are just some of the characters. Do you think
I'm going to tell you anything more? Think again.

awesome book about a Great Camp
A great source book of information about Camp Santanoni for anyone who has visited this or any other great camp in the Adirondacks. The book is full of historical information, stories, drawings and photographs chronicalling Camp Santanoni - from the influences of Japanese culture on Robert Pruyn (Santanoni's original owner) as a young man, to the present state of this wonderful Adirondack treasure. The photos of the families influenced by Santanoni, the illustrations of the conceptual framework of the architecture, and photos of the land and supporting buildings are numerous and well placed. Simply a thorough and entertaining book.

Scaling the Ivy Wall in the '90s: 12 Essential Steps to Winning Admission to America's Most Selective Colleges and Universities

Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $0.68
Average review score:

this one is for very serious selective-college applicants
As a high school student applying to very selective colleges, I have read through every "how to get into college" that I could get my hands on. This one is simply the most comprehensive and the best. Many of these types of books talk down to the reader, trying to sweeten the application process. This one does not over-simplify. It gave me a really good sense of the "big picture"--how what you do in high school affects your admissions chances at the big-name schools. I only wish I had read it when I was in ninth grade!
