BEST TITLE ON THE SUBJECT
This book presents the English-language text of the 1876 report of the commission sent by the Chinese government to investigate alleged abuses against Chinese laborers in Cuba. These contract laborers were brought to Cuba to help ease the labor shortages brought on by the impending end of African slavery in Cuba. The text is easily readable even with the Chinese names and characters mixed in. It is a very useful volume for the historian and genealogist since it is the result of interviews made and depositions taken by the members of the commission with actual laborers. This very revealing report brings to light the patterns of brutality and dishonest against the laborers by the plantation owners. The book is arranged thematically based on the questions asked by the commission. The Cuba Commission Report singularly stands out in the field of labor and migration history of the Caribbean and Cuba.

Good Pocket book
I think this book is an excellent resource for residents to have at their side in the clinic/hospital to review and learn between patients. It contains detailed information necessary for OKAPS, that is not in for example Will's Eye Manual, which I prefer when on call.

The Coolest Book On Earth-Besides Any Crichton Novel
This is a very cool book- not just beacuse it is about cars, but because it is about the fastest, most expensive cars there are(that are powered by an internal combustion engine). Post(the author) gives valuable insight on racing, since he has been involved in it, but also mentions even the smallest details about drag racing- the kinds of things that you say," Hey, did you know that nitromethane can give a car that normally has 200 hp 300hp?" With these details, and all of the great pictures showing the danger and excitement of drag racing. In Short- THIS IS THE BEST RACING BOOK YOU CAN BUY!

Important book on respiratory biofeedback
Author Bob Fried is an expert, par extraordinaire on respiratory psychophysiology and self regulation. He presents a model here which characterizes a common problem afflicting many people who go undiagnosed. The book clearly discusses the etiology, physiology and approaches to addressing hyperventilation syndrome.

If you are a biofeedback practitioner, this is a valuable book for your library. If you are a neurofeedback practitioner, it's worth taking a look at this. Breath affects brain.

Fried has presented at the Futurehealth Winter Brain meeting I organize, clearly showing how much of brainwave slowing is directly due to decreased cerebral blood oxygenation. That's breath affected EEG.

A Poet's Poet
Ms. Jacobsen is not a poet whose name will ring familiar with most Americans, which is unfortunate. She writes wonderfully controlled, strange & sonorous poetry which is read and celebrated by other writers practicing the craft. This book is filled with poems which Ms. Jacobsen manages to make seem effortless - in the poem "The Monosyllable" for example, she says "It took care of rain, short/ noon, long dark./ It had rough kin;/ did not stall./ With it, she said,/ I may,/ if I can,/ sleep...." And in another lovely poem titled "Yellow," she writes: "...it appeared/ to carve the curve of clouds/ and, as sun, shatter them./ The stars grew yellower/ yellow whirls on wheels on whirls/ leaves flew yellow/ the corn sprang/ yellow and the crows/ winged with a yellow nimbus." I wish this book were on the bookshelves of many more people. Ms. Jacobsen has won numerous awards and deserves to be read by a more general population beyond the confines of academia. This is a book filled with melodious langauge and startling imagery, both of which are extended by a sharp intellect. And as a collection from other books, this a hefty volume & a real bargain.

Add this to your Economic Development course syllabus.
This is a wonderful book. Clague et al cover all the bases on insitutions that foster economic growth.

This book is written well; it is laid out well; its premises and conclusions make good economic sense. Additionally, footnotes and references are easy to find, works discussed are cited in the text, and much of the information in the book offers tools for spinoff independent research by students.

This is a book that students will greatly enjoy reading and instructors will enjoy working with. For the non-student, a basic "economic literacy" is all that is needed to benefit from Clague et al's wonderful book.

A Decisive Biography
I have just translated this book into Japanese. It took me no less than 2 years. As is well known, the main achievement of John R. Mott is that he promoted the eccumenical movement and paved the road to WCC (World Christian Council). During my translation, I found the parts of World War I and the Russian revolution the most provocative. It cannot be said that this book is easy to read, partly because the author intended to make this book the decisive biography (a few had been written before), utilizing a great amount of material. However, this book is not only extremely valuable as a document of the Christian Ecumenism but we can get a new perspective of the history of USA and the world from the late 19th century till 1950s.

Excellent anatomical pictures!
This book is a very good book for a beginning medical student. I bought it as a reference book for my medical transcription work because of the color plates (I hope Amazon prints a sample of one of the colored pages so buyers can appreciate how good the book is; they did print a list of the color plates). The illustrations are very good and very detailed, showing exactly where everything is inside the human body. What's more, the illustrations are meticulously and completely labelled in detail! This is what made me buy the book. It helps me visualize where the anatomical part is positioned while transcribing, which gives me a good idea of what to expect when a physician dictates a particular procedure on that part. There are write-ups by doctors prior to each illustration, so you can refer back to it every so often to understand how things work and tie up together. A sample of pictures are: the complete illustration of the anatomical man, fetal circulation (with amazing close-up details of the placenta), the skeletal system, muscular system (with muscles, ligaments, fasciae, tendons, bursae), shoulder and hip joints, inguinal regions, hernias, development of blood cells, lymphatics, a really big picture of the anatomical ear, mechanics of vision, and a composite anatomy of the vascular system based upon arteriograms and venograms.

This is by no means a definitive anatomy book (it is only 166 pages). For advanced med students this is not recommended. But for those without a medical background but who work in the associated fields of the medical profession (nurses and transcriptionists among others), this is a good summary-of-the-anatomy book.
