Excelent reading!!
I have read several books about the Sioux Wars so i wasnt really sure i wanted to read another one, but Mr Robinson's book is fantastic. He writes taking in consideration that the reader doesnt know anything about the topic so he explains with good accuracy terms and places like no other author. The author is bold and right on the money when it comes to point a finger at somebody, like for example the stupidity of the Army officers.I found that the interviews and research the author made for this book are very good, especially from the indians perspective. The only thing i didnt like is the fact that Mr Robinson doesnt go into details when it comes to Crazy Horse.I would have loved to read more about Crazy Horse part in this Wars.Otherwise this is an excelente book!

An excellent recounting
This is by far the best book on the Army's conflict with Native Americans since "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee". It treats the material as a campaign rather than a series of seperate battles, so that Little Big Horn is treated as part of a whole. The author also describes the personalities and deeds of several Indian characters, not just Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. This is an eye-opening recounting of an important part of US history and a look at one of the greatest guerilla forces ever to wage war against the American Army.

a first rate overview of the Sioux War of 1876
Rather than concentrate on one battle or campaign, Robinson sets the stage for the reader to follow the movement of all the actors playing a role in the drama across the seasons of the war. I used this book as an orientation to the conflicts of 1876 prior to a trip to Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas to visit battle sites while on vacation. My trip was greatly enriched by reading this volume first. You can find more concentrated studies of particular engagements and the biographies of the participants that will offer deeper insights into the war, but for one overall narrative that provides the reader with the flavor of the contemporary army and Indian experience, here's my choice.

Terrific! Very highly recommended
HILL GAMES begins with the funeral of Aloysius Flynn, and then moves back in time to follow the chain of events leading to his death. Told from the perspective of Chris Johns, Al and his cohort Fiddler Guitry "had never encountered a scruple they couldn't swallow or a principle that they wouldn't compromise." To reach his goals, Al never hesitated to use booze, broads, boy toys and blackmail to bring sufficient pressure to bear on the members of Capitol Hill. As a part of the Industry Council for Peace through Strength, Chris had hired Al as the man with the knowledge to control the movers and shakers of Capitol Hill and expedite a change in legislation.

Chris seeks to level the playing field for American business by trying to win foreign contracts for defense equipment in the international market against competitors from Britain, France, and a host of other companies. Current legislation forbids the bribing or "sweetening" of deals to benefit those who aid the deal making in their countries. The bottom line is that the US looses out at the bargaining table because American business cannot offer the same deals as foreign competitors, despite a better product. Chris wants to legalize "incentive fees" to foreign agents to pave the way for successful business.

Author Charles Cronin brings his professional background as independent consultant to the aerospace industry, as well management positions in the several major aerospace corporations to bear in HILL GAMES. With an insider's knowledge of the power plays and deft manipulations that our nation's leaders indulge, Cronin exposes the amoral and illegal implications of such games. The result is a scathing indictment of the highest offices of our land and those who manipulate the legislative process for their own profit. With a fast paced plot, terrific characterizations, and a convincing narrative voice, HILL GAMES comes very highly recommended.

Very Highly Recommended
Word Weaving's review of Hill Games states......"With an insider's knowledge of the power plays and deft manipulations that our nation's leaders indulge, Cronin exposes the amoral and illegal implications of such games. The result is a scathing indictment of the highest offices of our land and those who manipulate the legislative process for their own profit. With a fast paced plot, terrific characterizations, and a convincing narrative voice, HILL GAMES comes very highly recommended."

Exceptional Work! Great Debut!!
Charles Cronin has really captured the essence of the political thriller. I was hanging onto the end of every chapter, waiting for more!

I recommend this to anyone, and hope to see more in the future.

Computer Architecture: A Designer's Text Based on a Generic Risc (McGraw-Hill Computer Science Series. Computer Organization and architecture.)

Excellent introduction to RISC
The book is an exceptionally clearsighted introduction to the topic of RISC. With many lookbacks on existing processors the authors weighs the pros and cons on almost every aspect of the design. I especially enjoyed the lengthy discussions of what an operating system (unix in this case) expect from the hardware and how the two cooperate in the best possible way.

It's discussion on different file systems does not directly have a bearing on the RISC architecture but fits in very snugly in giving a most complete general overview of a computer system. There's more to it than a good processor.

Read it! You'll learn a lot - not only about RISCs - but also what has driven hardware designers in the microprocessor industry for decades.

Good introductory book
Good introduction of RISC CPU design. This book illustrates some of the architectural trade offs that real designers make when introducing a new CPU architecture. I especially like the fact that the authors went into great detail about the software and hardware aspects of the CPU design.

Complete without being difficult
This book may be considered a reference in the study of electric machines, because it brings the main aspects of electromechanical energy conversion devices without being difficult to understand. Its way for explaining the relations of power/current/torque in induction machines is the best one I've seen in any book.

Electric machinery easy at high level
The most powerfull book in Electric Machinery for the beginners and experts, at the same level of complexity (it's hard to read but it's very interesting in the way of presenting the contents...), requires some background in theory of electrical circuits and systems

a very practical and enriching insights
These views are personal! This book is comparable and on equal footing with the "International Business" by Czinkota, Ronkainen & Moffet. One is complementary of the other. Some of the subjects are overlapping. I am in the opinions both are focusing on the topics for the benefits of the readers, especially for MBA students. Both are a great & wonderful books. By the way, I have only read Mr Hill's 1st edition book. I have not read his latest edition (1998)Thank you.

Very educational and easy to read!
Having purchased this book for a class on World Business, it was required reading. We have worked mostly with the text jumping around a bit.

The book has proven to be highly educational. Covering both macro and micro aspects of World Business, the book is easy to read for anyone with some knowledge of economics.

In-depth case studies throughout the book make it quite enjoyable, and emphasize the authors points.

John Doble's Journal and Letters from the Mines: Volcano, Mokelumne Hill, Jackson and San Francisco 1851-1865
Published in Paperback by Volcano Press (1999)
Authors: John Doble and Charles Lewis Camp
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

John Doble's Diary
One of the best journals of the early gold rush that includes a series of letters written by Doble before and during the Civil War. Poor spelling, no punctuation as Doble recorded his day-to-day experiences as a miner. His descriptions of life and times, of bonanza and borrasca, of the wagon trains arriving, and especially his description of his cabin, are classic. I have lived in Volcano, and spent many hours searching out the places described. After reading of his anguish over the death of his good friend, I went to the cemetery and found the tombstone placed there by him.

Living history as many of the places described in the book remain, but written from a perspective long lost.

Gold Trackers Delight!
My father and I got excited when we ran across this book documenting the exploits of John Doble in the gold country of Pine Grove, California.

Doble's Journal documents his search for gold specifically in the Pine Grove, Jackson areas. One could take this journal and retrace Doble's steps to find the best areas to prospect.

I definitly would add this one to my prospecting reference library.

pre-teens will love it....and adults too!
This story is a great way for the kids of today to see what life was like in the early 1900's during the depression. The story is based on real life experiences...what better way to learn? Good plot will keep your attention...I read it in two sittings!

Exciting! With Action and Mystery!
Just completed reading The Treasure of Orchard Hill, and that is what it will always be to me...a treasure! It held my interest from beginning to end; was exciting, with action and mystery. And, of course, having visited the farm many times as a child, I was busy (in my mind's eye) viewing each area described, and with great curiosity, attempting to connect the characters to real persons. I loved it and I think it would be a great book for childrn, since the main character is an eleven year old girl. I believe it would certainly keep a child's interest, especially since most children love mysteries. Looking forward to your next book. Ann Craig

A great strategic book
It doesn't matter that this is a case studies book. Though you don't anything about strategy, you will learn strategy through an entertaining reading. It shows a lot of cases studies, with detailed information about the strategies followed by some industries: Computers, Japanese Bear, Automotive, etc.

It's a great choice!
