The Little Book of Shakespeare
This tiny book was great for short and quick insights and thoughts on the trials, tribulations, good, and bad facts of life, quoted from one of the greatest writers himself, Shakespeare. These quotes not only made you smile but made you think as well. I definately recommend this small book to anyone who loves Shakespeare's words, and to those who do not necessarily enjoy reading his long novels!

A Fun Play!
Malevole, the title character of Marston's masterpiece, has good reason to be a malcontent: he is the disguised, deposed rightful ruler of Genoa. The play is a collection of intrigues, questions as to who knows what about whom, and disguises. It is a great joy to read and one of my favorite pieces of Renaissance literature.

The New Mermaid edition is very nice, with a good introduction, but the language has been modernized more than in most editions.

Space, the final frontier
This is a huge collection of the work done by John Harris. Most of his art is obsessed with space and the machines that travel it. The work is amazing in that it captures the infinite quality of space: cold, bleak, lonely, and never ending. There are also paintings of the machines that must travel it in search of new resources or just exploration. The paintings are very unique and beautiful. But don't expect to see creatures or babes with very skimpy clothing, there aren't any in this book.

This book is worth owning for people who love sci-fi and also love ships like the Nostromo from "Alien". I personally hate clean, aerodynamic ships like in Star Trek. Deep space ships are supposed to be huge, klunky, and dirty. And that's what John Harris can paint.

No Voice from the Hall (Isis Large Print Non-Fiction)

A fascinating glimpse of a "lost " world
Excellent treatment of the vanishing English Country House. Very sad but also Harris includes some wonderful commentary on local color and humorous personal experiences. A very entertaining book, full of the great names in British conservation efforts and architectural historians, of which he is one, working for RIBA. All in all a very nice little book on not only the loss of great houses but the passing of an age--a civilization gone with the winds of the First and Second World Wars.

Short story writing at its best
Like Harris's first book, "Small Rain," this second collection of short stories has drawn rave reviews. Judith Fitzgerald of the Toronto Globe and Mail (Feb. 14, 1998 p. D5) calls Other Art a "riotous satire," full of "delightful cameos" of characters the author encounters, in his stroll through life as a small-town college professor. If you appreciate witty, stylish and intelligent writing, it doesn't get much better than this. Highly recommended for all audiences.

The Bible in emergency radiology
Now in its third printing, Dr. Harris' monumental tome continues to set the standard. Along with the excellent text in well-written prose, Dr. Harris has strenghthened the book with the contributions from several experts in Emergency Radiology. They have supplied discussions on modern modalities including CT, US, MRI and Angiography. The book, however, retains its strenghth in the emphasis on mechanisms of injury, the subtleties available in plain radiography and the total approach to trauma with clinically-oriented imaging protocols. No ER should be without this superb text

The revolutionaries : a Martin Falconer story

An excellent account of the air war in France, WWI
This book is the third book following the career of the fictional character, Martin Falconer. Martin began as a raw recruit in "The Fledglings" and grew and learned to be a fighter pilot in "The Professionals". John Harris has a delightful way of writing that is simple to follow yet weaves a wonderful, intricate story, full of colour and life and is easy to understand. I highly recommend this book and it's predecessors to anyone who has any intrest in either world war one or in aviation in general.

Word-music
This is a wonderful collection of poetry readings by some of the best actors in the world. If you allow yourself only one tape of poetry, I would recommend this one. The rendition of Lawrence's "The Snake" is spellbining, and the reading of Macneil's "A Death in the Family" is quietlly gut-wrenching. And you will be surprised how well Bill Shatner recites about whales. Buy this tape, and you will listen to it again and again.
