Classical Mythology
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (2001)

An excellent resource
I have quite a bit of experience in the study of Classical civilization, and I have yet to find a better source for information on Greek and Roman mythology. I think this book is a necessity for anyone wishing to learn more about ancient religion or to anyone who needs a reliable reference for this subject.

Great introduction to the topic
Everyone should own a copy of this book. It is the best sophisitcated introduction to classical mythology that is out there, and is filled with useful illustrations.

Great Beginner Book
Morford and Lenardon set out to write a pretty comprehensive mythology text for those just starting a study of the subject and I think they've done a fantastic job. The most recent edition features tons of artwork and brings recent research in classical mythology and archaeology into the discussion. Also, the book is written in a highly engaging style that draws the reader in. You tend to forget you're reading a textbook. My only complaint was that I didn't feel some gods and goddesses were really covered. However, they were usually minor characters in Greek myth, so don't let that deter you from this book. It's worth the price!

The Forgotten One: And Other True Tales of the South Seas

stories of expats lost in the South Seas
This was Hall's last book, a collection of six short stories about Americans and Europeans he knew personally during his years on Tahiti. The title story, The Forgotten One, is probably the most interesting. Written half a century ago, it tells the tale of an Englishman who couldn't come to terms with own sexuality and fled to a remote atoll in the Tuamotu Islands to be alone. The story seems strange today when gays are largely accepted, but during the 1950s such cases were plausible. The final story in the collection, Frisbie of Danger Island, is an annotated series of letters Hall received from his good friend, Robert Dean Frisbie, or 'Ropati' as the Cook Islanders called him. Frisbie's one literary success, The Book of Pukapuka, can be ordered through this website. Hall's story chronicles Frisbie's years of poverty and rejected manuscripts, as well as his famous experience of a hurricane on Suwarrow Atoll. By the way, if you'll be visiting Tahiti, a James Norman Hall Museum opened recently in his original home at Arue just outside Papeete. If you've read any of his books, the museum is a must.

The Forgotten one
After reading this book ,The Forgotten One , I had begun a search of other books of this type. The forgotten one had such an effect that I began a journey, physically, to find out more of this lifestyle and ended up living in the south pacific for a period of 18 months. Once you read this book , it may effect you in such a way , that the mundane , the'normal' the monetary , no longer is good enough , and you too may start a life in search of the Romance that is provided only in the islands of palm fringed lagoons that only exist in the South Pacific. I rate this book as my favourite , for it is written from the heart in a simlpe to 'appreciate' way of life that exists outside that of the big cities

James Norman Hall, an unreckognized essayist of our century
This collection of stories of the eastern tropical pacific is, along with Under a Thatched Roof by the same author a book that I have ended up reading again and again since I first read them as a teenager. The frantic world dips under the horizon as you can lose yourself in the remote world of French Polynesia in the 20's and 30's. The cold hard world of steel and inanity melts into the warmth of a tropical night of soft breezes and oh so many stars. The Forgotten One is about a man so troubled by his difference from other men that he goes to incredible lengths to avoid all but his old servant Ling Foo and an elderly Tuamotuan woman. Anyone who has felt this estrangement should read about Crichton. There is another story of a happy sort about a Chinese family of Tahiti that befriends the author because of his simple gift of a few American seeds. The last tale is about another interesting character and author of the South Seas- Robert Dean Frisbee. He might not have had an easy life, but good lord, what adventure. Read these and other essays by James Norman Hall and see if you aren't glad that you shared this earth with this gentle and perceptive soul. Bob

I bought this book a month ago, read it thoroughly and find it quite intersting and informative. It is different from the books usually written on dermatology. All questions asked are very common, informative and the one which are usually asked in the ward rounds and clinical meetings.
I recommend this book to all the dermatologists !

A little gem
Another excellent secret series book that covers must of the essential dermatological facts that must be known by any health care provider. It includes lots of good quality photographs and interesting facts. Certainly, this book is worth the time and the money.

Great Story!
What a clever story! This is a great way to get young children interested in learning the alphabet. It is so funny to see what happens when L, M, N, O and P get fed up and leave the ABC's. It really teaches kids to appreciate each and every letter. The subtle messages of appreciating language, value for the individual, and good, old fashioned enunciation, come across as playful and fun in this wonderful book. The pop-ups and tabs are really great and the characters are bright and lively, so that even the youngest children can play and learn.

visionary illustration!!
this is the work of a great visual artist.

- this is a world class artist with a fully developed
individual gift - unlike so much of what is sold
to your children - this is not "product "
this is a vehicle through which light can pass.....
beautiful

how great for your kids imagination!
enjoy!

Listen to Your Inner Voice

Inner Voice Guidebook
I have found that following up on hunches, feelings or listening to my inner voice produces much better answers to questions than if I simply rely on logic. This book teaches how to access that inner knowledge found inside each of us and encouranges the reader to follow that inner guidance in order to live a more peaceful, satisfying life. There are exercises that teach you how to do it and true stories contributed by people illustrating how accessing their inner voice helped them make the best decisions. Highly recommended.

Listen to your Inner Voice
This book takes the reader on an inspiring quest for the Inner Voice, starting off with conscience and its part in rightful action, moving to intuition and hunches which enable us to make appropriate decisions, towards inspiration and inner guidance as an effective tool in a chosen field of expression. The thorny question of discernment is discussed; how can we trust what we hear? How do we formulate precise questions in order to receive clear answers? What happens when we discover that there is an Inner Voice which is not only interested in our personal lives, but nudges us towards embracing all of Life? Is there such a thing as a Voice that is ever present, an intrinsic part of our consciousness, not just an oracle to be consulted very now and again? The authors clearly write from deep personal experience, and a number of practical examples are given and writing exercises suggested. Inspiring quotes from well known authors, as well as many testimonials from people who have had startling experiences and insights prove that we are not only equipped with intuition, but that we have access to divinely inspired guidance and an inner connection to the whole of Creation. In finding and using the Inner Voice we learn to play our unique part in the unfolding of the Divine Plan and in making this World a place of harmony and love for all of Life.

Does anybody know?
If it is possible to secure The Paris Review - Interview with writers published by Penguin through the 1970's and 80's

fantastic read
The Paris Review is the best literary magazine around (even though they've rejected all of my stories). But anyway, the interview and stories are top notch. I love the blend of unknown writers and famous writers. This issue is especially good, for it's a concept issue, "New British Writing." The forum is excellent, with each author asked to give their opinion on, of course, the state of "British" literature. Furthermore, George Plimpton is very inspiring. Just reading an issue wants to make you write better or start your own magazine.

Modern, not Legacy AIS
It is a rare distinction to have written an Accounting textbook that works this well outside of the classroom. I have been reading this to update my knowledge in this area and with a possible eye to writing system documentation or perhaps designing a system of my own.

The only topic I missed seeing in the index regards solving the coding problem that would allow generating an accurate statement of cash flow. Why this doesn't pop to the top of the request list among Accounting professionals I don't understand, but so far the treatment is inadequate.

The other textbook of note in the AIS area is by Gelinas and Sutton and might fill whatever holes exist in Hall's textbook.

Dr. Hall, bravo, your book is a masterpiece!
Finally, a man has come forward and has spoken words all women what to hear and all men need to listen to. I applaud Dr. Hall for his brilliant work and his heartfelt desire to resurrect the idea of what a man should be. It intrigues me that he hasn't become a national celebrity on the scale of Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. I believe that the time has come for men and women to have a dialogue and I truly feel that Dr. Hall has something to say. I have recommended this book to all my friends and can't wait to see him on Oprah.
