After reading this book, I know nothing new about pornography that I didn't know before. My boyfriend and I are very open about sex, porn and adult entertainment. This book talks about Porn and how to excercise your first amendment rights-WOW! (brain overload)!!! It does nothing to tell about the experiences, accomplishments or long-term benefits of pornography. It does nothing to dispel the myths, of all porn stars degrading themselves or contracting diseases. It does nothing to educate someone from the outside who is looking in. The book is totally boring and lacks alot of information that people might be curious about.

Don't let the title scare you off. Yes, there's 'adult' material within the softbound covers, but pull the cover way back, and you'll discover a fascinating, controversial and significant
collection of essays based on papers delivered at a world conference on pornography held in Los Angeles in August 1998. Representatives of the legal and academic communities
(including many internally-renowned scholars and First Amendment lawyers) and members of the adult entertainment industry join to cover a wide-ranging array of topics --- from erotic films to phone sex, censorship to feminism. This isn't for everyone, but anyone reading it will gain important insights.

As a student of human sexuality, this book is full of incredible information and testimony on the social aspects of pornography. If you are looking for a book OF pornography, look elsewhere - this is a book of academic discussion on pornogrpahy's role in society. A definite must-have for any scholar on human sexuality!

This book was written by a couple bored lawyers, who know as much about domain names as I know about law. Funny, but you don't see me writing a book on law. Everyone thinks they are an expert, but these two will have a hard time convincing you of that if you waste your money to read their almost amusingly misleading advice.

This was the second book (there are only two in print) I bought in my quest to understand the domain name business. It does provide some useful information on coming up with your own domain name and it does provide lots of info on trademark considerations in choosing a domain name. It is primarily for the trademark considerations that I give it the three star rating. While the Ronan's book on Domain Names (The Domain Name Handbook; High Stakes and Strategies in Cyberspace by Ellen Rony, Peter R. Rony) does a nice job on covering trademark history, this book does a better job from a "How-to" point of view, which is not surprising since it is published by an interesting publishing house, Nolo, which puts out lots of how-to law books. I expect to order more of these.

By my read, about 55 pages of the book are clearly related to domain names. The rest of the book is more related to trademark considerations. It's almost as if they took a book on trademarks and modified it and added the pages on domain names.

Since, if you screw up on a trademark factor with even a single domain name registration, it could cost you at least the $16 or less cost of a name registration, this book's $20 cost is well worth the investment and time persuing its detailed trademark coverage, to prevent running into trademark problems.

A better title for this book would be "How to Choose an OK Name for a Small Business."

As another reviewer noted, this book was written by lawyers, who seem to know more about law than marketing. Consequently, the marketing advice is rather basic, but correct in my opinion. This is exceptional considering all the bad advice out there on domain names.

But if you are a small business, you don't need a great domain name, and it's not cost effective for you to spend thousands of dollars or many hours choosing a great name. An OK name with no trademark problems will do for most basement, small and garage businesses.

Written by lawyers, this book has good trademark advice. If you are looking for marketing advice for a larger business, look at "The 11 Immutable Laws of Internet Branding" by marketing expert Al Ries, "How to Select & Buy an Elite Domain Name" or other books on branding.

It's difficult to express just how bad this book is. I knew it was bad on page 5 when the author describes a character as "finding the brown marks on everyone's underwears". Then, on page 8, the author places saguaro cactuses in northern New Mexico. And then it only gets worse.

I thought there was going to more action with this book based on the title. That was not the case; there is more of an overall story that takes the full length of the book to develop. The story is put together very well and the characters are great. It just did not move fast enough for me. If you like the pace and style of his movies, then you will like this book.

Exellent book on the generational conflict of the hippie-era. It's a story about the coldblooded killing of a hippie, a murder that confronts both sides of the community in an army-base-city in New Mexico: The so-called free-minded, well-drugged hippies opposing everything the old system has to offer, and the cynical conservative army-people. It's a hillarious, yet serious, story that perfectly describes the absurdities of an american period, the generational conflict - and, most of all, the very loss of true human feeling in a time full of systems and ideologies. If you like Heller and Vonnegut, read this book, if you don't, read it anyway....

The problem is not so much with the story (although it strains credulity at certain points) or with plot devices (although they also seem improbable) but with the way that the author has set up the books. One short chapter now and then is good, but a profusion of one-page chapters scattered through such a short novel is not good. The way that the characters respond to certain situations is also less than credible, and Lady Kate's reaction to her father's secret somewhat strains credibility (she acts through the book mostly like a puppet). By comparison, the hero comes across as more alive. Some of the minor characters are interesting, and their stories are *very* interesting.

Lady Kate's Secret could have been a very promising book. Unfortunately, the author first tries to take on too much (a complicated plot with way too many plot devices) and then dissipates the charm of her heroine. The courtship of the couple, not to mention the life story of the hero (given his age) sounds improbable, although the premise is not unreasonable. Finally, the real problem is the writing, by which somehow the characters and the story end up two-dimensional paper dolls. I have not read any of the author's other works, so I am not sure if this is a general problem in her writing or only in this particular book.

I fell in love with Nicholas Monroe, the hero. Too good looking and confident, he is the perfect hero. This story had a cast of the most entertaining characters I've read in ages. It was really fun to read -a great romance.

I had to read this for school. Its not very interesting unless you're a Spanish major.

For a Spanish language student who has taken 2 semesters, and is fluent in English, this is comfortable, somewhat entertaining material. After reading this book once for my Brandeis University class, during this summer I have read it 3 times more, because it is a nice way to review. It is very comprehensible material, and the glossary and notes make it is easy to look up unknown words if you need to. I am logged on right now to buy the next book in the series.

A good book, along the lines of the previous versions, but Elias apparently changed the minimum "requirements" to include a player in this book, thus having more worthless stats about those who "made the cutoff." They were better off in doing like they had in previous versions, giving more inportant stats on most of the players, as opposed to just key players - I mean who needs to know how long someone had gone without a triple against lefthanded pitchers on the road?

Lujan paints a picture of life through a child's imagination in this poem about discovery. Loosey based on a children's game, everyday objects are used to show how everything in life is connected, each opening to reveal another distinctly different larger thing. The symbolism will be lost on small children, but they will enjoy the singsong flow of the words and the incredible drawings. Quintana's pastel, dreamlike illustrations are well suited to the simple poem, but the random highlighting of the text is distracting. The award winning Lujan is well known for his magical imagery and visual pictures and he stays true to form here. Beyond My Hand appeals to two distinctly different audiences, the very young who will enjoy it for its imagination and simplicity, and the scholars who will analyze it for the deeper meaning!

This book provided a solid introduction to community psychology, but it was very difficult to read. Most of this was because of small, dense text and numerous citations. They author used proper APA in-text citations, but they were so lengthy and numerous that you would read one sentence followed by a citation and two more sentences and another lengthy citation. The authors did provide solid examples of real life experience and research results that made the material seem salient and meaningful. This is the first edition and the book has a solid foundation, but I hope the next edition is a bit more user-friendly.

Historian Norbert Elias' classic works Court Society and The Civilizing Process have presented a problematic view of the Early Modern court, and with it, a false view of Early Modern monarchy. In that sense, Elias' approach to the early modern European court contains many misunderstandings, especially those connected with the much-heralded rise of the middle class and its inseparable companion, modernization. However, a wave of recent studies shows that the nobles were dominant much longer than we suspected. Though small in absolute numbers, the nobility controlled most of the land and all of the politics on the Continent until well into the 19th century; facing similar problems, from one country and culture to the next nobles responded to them in very similar ways. For instance, one may read "Myths of Power. Norbert Elias and the Early Modern European Court " by Jeroen Duindam (both a critical analysis of Norbert Elias' historical works and an interpretation of court life in early modern Europe, where Duindam submits Elias' interpretation to the test); or "Monarchy, Aristocracy, and the State in Europe, 1300-1800" by Hillay Zmora (who shows that throughout the period examined, the fisco-militaries exigencies of the age brought monarchy and nobility into close interdependence: the exploitation of the population to the mutual profit of rulers and ruling classes underlay much of the co-operation between them). In general, these two works present a more accurate view of monarchy, nobility, the court and the state contrary to that provided by Elias.
In addition to the two works already mentioned, other book that I would recommend to read would be "The Persistence of the Ancient Regime" by Arno J. Mayer (covering approximately the 1815-1914 period).

I thought the book was useful. I used the book in a class with an excellent professor. It helped me a great deal but most of what I learned was learned in the class. The format of the book was easy to follow and you don't need to have any prior knowledge of the language in order to complete the workbook. The text book that accompanies this workbook is a definite must buy if you plan on truly learning the language.
