A good book for amateur geologists...
This book is a good introduction to the overall principals of geology as well as to the specific geology of the eastern US. There's lots of diagrams, maps, photos and an easy to read text. Sections include background information about geology, the major geological features of an area and what you would see along the major highways of that area.

Excellent Curriculum Tie-In
This book easily and clearly illustrates the concept of pulley, screw and lever. Simple machines have never been so easy to explain. The cute animals and the banana party they have help the students in my 3rd grade class to understand force and work. Bravo!

Irenaeus of Lyons (The Early Church Fathers)
Published in Library Binding by Routledge (16 December, 1996)
Author: Robert McQueen Grant
Amazon base price: $85.00

Great intro to the absurdity of Gnosticism
While finding a complete copy of Irenaeus' 5 volume set is difficult, this work is a fine stepping stone on the way to commiting oneself to delving into the lunicy of Gnostic "thought."

In essence, this work is accurately described as a "best of" Against Heresies. Not exhaustive by any means, this volume stills provides more than enough to chew on for those who have never been properly introduced to the approach, style, and "tact" of this surprisingly entertaining apostolic leader.

As a manager of two large Christian book stores, I highly recommend it!

Planned Giving 101
This is an excellent primer on planned giving. The author provides definitions and examples of many useful terms in an easy-to-read format. The examples clarify the different options available and the benefits of each. The emphasis on planned giving as a GIFT to charitable institutions is refreshing in a field that talks often of tax advantages. Mr. Sharpe highlights the human side of planned giving, noting the importance of establishing a relationship with donors, and acknowledging gifts.

As a former life insurance salesperson, the author is somewhat biased in favor of life insurance products, However, he does provide numerous illustrations of all types and realistic scenarios, as well as a wealth of experience.

The format is clear, and topics are covered well and methodically. Mr. Sharpe's organization of subjects makes this an ideal primer - think of it as a textbook for Planned Giving 101. This is a good source for the professional or organization just starting to consider planned giving, and a wonderful reference for those with more experience.

16 Clues to Your Past Lives
As a certified past-life therapist, I realize that Barbara Lane has put into words what I have instinctively known for years about accessing clues to past life memories. It is no accident that we tend to be attracted to or fascinated by specific people, places, occupations, or to scenes from movies, books, etc. Ms. Lane's book is insightful and very well written. I believe this book will be most helpful for anyone who is curious about his or her past-life history.

Excellent classic text in the Penguin range
I agree with another reader in that it is unfortunate we don't have similar biographies of the later Roman emperors such as Hadrian, Trajan and Marcus Aurelius; but here in the book of twelve Caesars Suetonius captures at least some of the various emperor's characters including Julius Caesar, Augustus, Claudius and Vespasian as well as others up to and including Domitian, the last of the twelve. Some histories are quite detailed such as that of Augustus whereas the relatively short reigns of Otho, Galba and Vitellius are quite short by comparison. The interesting thing about this book is the way Suetonius writes about the emperors in the "warts and all" style letting the public know every detail of their, at times, dubious habits and cruelties. No one gets away scott-free not even Augustus. The account is very honest with little held back no matter how crude. The emperors' greatest weaknesses and strengths are laid bare. It is written in a less formal style to that of say Cassius Dio or even of Tacitus and as such is enjoyable by itself. It also brings to mind how similar the Empire was to the lifestyle of today especially when it comes to public servants and government officialdom and responsibility. It is obvious Roman law is carried over to modern versions very easily forming the backbone of later centuries. There are telltale differences such as the incredible power emperor's wielded, especially as regards their ability to execute or defame anyone at will. The collapse of Roman values becomes glaringly obvious as the emperors themselves no longer provide an adequate example to the people. Former titles and honours which meant something in earlier times are progressivley demeaned by emperors such as Nero or Domitian at their worst and upheld by Titus or Vespasian. Yet another excellent classic text in the Penguin range.

An objective and amusing look at the Roman Caesars
Suetonius, one of the great Roman historians, gives a detailed account of the lives and follies of twelve of the Roman Caesars. He goes not only into their political lives but their personal lives as well, looking at the faults and their sometimes humorous shortcomings. It is a very vivid and racy history, but that is what good history does, it exposes the innermost facets of the past, and like Suetonius, without being bias. This is an excellent book, not just for history students, but for any who would like a more personal and informative look at the men behind the deified personalities of Imperial Rome. Not only does it include the histories of the Caesars but also maps, genealogical tables, an index of names, and a helpful little key of names and places of the past and where the present day location is located. Overall this is a very good book that is well translated and very fun to read. It is both informative and amusing at the same time. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, and am glad to see that a high school student has read and taken the time to give a review. Not many high school students get a chance to read, let alone such authors as Suetonius and the like. I hope others will continue to read and encourage others to do the same.

Excellent record of Imperial Rome in all its decadence
If you have a fascination with Imperial Rome and its Caesars, this book will keep you enthralled. For anyone who's seen the visual performances on television of I, Claudius, this book will give you a greater insight as to what exactly happened. Keep in mind the style of writing is dated, but then again, the author Suetonius lived almost 2000 years ago, still, if you can see through the translation, there's a lot of interesting tidbits here.

True Nora Roberts!
The MacGregors-Alan-Grant was a good book. I have to say the first story was very boring, but I gave it 4 stars because of "One Man's Art." Grant and Gennie were great!!! I agree with the first review: Grant's eyes were brown in one story and deep green in the next. Bear in mind that those two stories were written years ago, and were done separately. I have not read the first book "Serena and Caine" as of yet. I expect it will be very good.

loved it!
Nora Roberts is my favorite author. I have read almost every book she has written, but my favorite stories are the ones about the MacGregors. I buy the book, and then can't put it down until I've finished it. I can't wait until the next story of the huge MacGregor family comes out, especially the story of The MacGregor himself, Daniel. Ms. Roberts never put this family to rest. My other favorite character is Eve Dallas. Hopefully she will remain a cop for a long time to come, with Roarke's help, of course!

Another MacGregor winner
I loved this book and the whole series about the wonderful MacGregor family. This one contains two stories-

**Alan's story- alan is the first born son and a US Senator with aspirations for the presidency. He falls for Shelby- an eccentric Washington potter who's father was also a senator and assassinated when she was just a girl. For this reason, Shelby does not want to get back involved into politics. Alan spends most of the book plotting to win over her and I enjoyed his attempts to do so. This was a charming novel.

**Grant's story--Grant is a reclusive artist who lives in an old lighthouse. Gennie is on the run from a tragedy in her past and is stranded when her car stops. She winds up on Grant's door-like a breath of sunshine. He wants to remain a recluse but Gennie has gotten into his heart. It is quite funny and touching, esp when they go visit the Macgregor family.

I very much enjoyed these stories as i have all the macgregor novels- Nora Roberts certainly has crafted a winning dynasty.
