Great book for a family building a house!
We bought this book because we wanted our children to know what to expect while we were building our first home. It was a great step by step guide of the building process with very colorful pictures. I would highly recommend it if you have young children!
Simple yet effective
This is a simple book, perhaps to simple for my 11 and 13 year old. However it's also a one of a kind. We are building a house this year, our first and the boys really wanted to know what was going on without me turning it into another school lesson. This book does just that each frame (simular to comic book style but larger) is one process of the home as is goes up. It is to the point and doesn't waste paper getting through the steps. Simple but effective. Any child wanting to understand "what's next" but not wanting an engineering lesson would appreciate this book. I do think even a 4 year old, that has it read to them could understand it.
What happens next on our house, Dad?
Our family refered to this book constantly as our own house was built. The book is filled with information for children. Plus, I admit it, there are some construction terms that I learned myself. This is a typical Gail Gibbons non-fiction, filled with relevant information combined with clear, easy-to-understand pictures.

Turkey Day
Being a fan of this joyous holiday and celebration, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I loved all the bright fall colors used in the illustrations. The book gives a brief history of the Thanksgiving holiday and discusses modern festivities. It made me very hungry for pumpkin pie and turkey! Any child would love this book especially during the fall. If I was captivated by the bright orange pumpkins and trees, I'm sure children would be too!
Gibbons Writes a Book to be Thankful For

Gibbons covers the historical aspects and modern customs associated with this holiday. A must for elementary libraries or young children's private collections and a great prelude to craft-making or other Thanksgiving activities.

Old Lady and a Fly...December 2000
I feel that to get kids to learning and memorizing it is a good book. I do not feel that it is a very good book because she dies but it is a fantasy. I feel that it would be a good classroom project for a teacher to do. I would recomend a teacher reading it to her classroom

I thought this was a very good story. I collect children's books and it was highly recommended to me. This is a must to have in your library of children's books.

Nice pictures, needs more expainations.
My children enjoyed the pictures a lot, but did not understand everything the book was describing. If you were already familar with the sport it might be easier. Tends to read flat and technical.
Perfect!
This is a great book for kids! I bought it to introduce my six year old son to baseball. It covers how the game is actually played, rules of play, and reinforces important baseball terms. At just the right length, this book is perfectly titled - My Baseball Book. Great for any budding, young baseball fan!

Gail should hire an illustrator or a photographer !
Ms. Gibbons is a WONDERFUL writer. Her drawings, however, are definitely not in the category of her writing. They detract from her books. I am a children's librarian and I have seen time after time that kids will avoid her books because the pictures are so unappealing. This is a shame since the text is usually outstanding. Ms. Gibbons should think about getting an illustrator or a photographer to supply an equivalent to her text. If she were to do this, her books would reach a much greater audience.
An excellent, accurate book
This book can be used as an excellent teaching tool. It provides a great introduction to the rainforests, and is full of facts about animals, medicines, and plants that are found in the rainforests.

A nice introduction to farming.
This book provides basic information on farms and has colorful illustrations. The book shows what farms look like during the four seasons and describes the necessary chores for each season. It also discusses different types of farms and different farm animals. My second grade class enjoys reading this book as part of our farm unit.

An excellent introductions to wetland habitats
Once again, Gail Gibbons has done a wonderful job introducing 4 to 8 year olds to another natural realm. In Marshes and Swamps, Ms. Gibbons writes and shows through her illustrations where both freshwater and saltwater wetlands are found, how they developed and are maintained, the plants, animals, invertebrates, plants and insects who live there, and why they are threatened by humans. The book explains a bit about freshwater marshes, saltwater marshes, freshwater swamps, and mangrove swamps. Marshes and Swamps can launch a great classroom unit on the importance of wetlands to migratory birds, on food chains, on pollution and its impact on the environment, on the different adaptations of plants and animals to wet/brackish/salty environs. I am using this book with my third grade classroom and it is so full of information that we will use it for a month. Wading Into Wetlands, by the National Wildlife Federation is a great companion book of hands on activities that enhance the Gail Gibbons Marshes and Swamps book.
