Review of Chez Nous
I find that this first-year college level French text to be an adequate introduction to the language. I expecially appreciate the wide-array of authentic examples of francophone culture presented throughout the text. It is through these examples, that the student is able to apply to concepts and vocabulary in everyday situations. My only complaint with the book is the fact that in several of the short essays, many words are introduced but without any translations either in the essay or the glossary. Many times this is frustrating to students. However, the cassette tapes that accompany the text are a beneficial tool to the mastery of proper pronunciation.

An Above Average Read
This book covers many key factors of entering a lucid state of mind, however misses some key points and strategies for attaining lucidity. It tells most of the basics, but there are better books on the topic such as: Exploring the world of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge. Overall, I found this book helpful, but lacking.

I can't wait to figure out what this was about
I was very disappointed in this book. I only finished it because I was hoping the ending would bring meaning to the story. While several interesting characters were introduced in the book, really none of them get fully developed and while I like books which prompt me to think deeper this fell short of that.
Expected More¿
After reading Billy I could not wait to read this book. Mr. French took a different turn with this one. I didn't like the beginning and definitely didn't like the end. I didn't even finish the book, I skimmed to the end and started another. Maybe next time.
Powerful drama explores a subaltern life
French's novel _I Can't Wait On God_ is a powerful work. Like a strange mystery, the murderer is known from the beginning, but her character is completely unknown. At the heart of the tale is Willet, a beautiful woman who seems shallow and wicked. But as the tale builds to its stunning end, it is she who seems human, and the world callous. Black, female, and poor, Willet is at the mercy of men, Whites, and money, and the depth of her character rewrites the book from back to front. A moving and worthwhile work.

A Bad Translation?
These are two comdedies that fail in a modern sense: a woodcutter as a doctor
and a middle class fellow who wants "Culture". Coming from California
I have felt the sting of New York/ east coast snobbery and
wanted to be able to reply. So the Bourgeois Gentleman
isn't funny to me: it is cruel. The Army made a medic of me
despite of my religious history, so I sympathize with the poor woodcutter.
Had the translation been better the plays might have survived them,
but it fails the humor of the plays and they fall flat.

PLEASE!
No self respecting actor would ever use this text! It assumes you know absolutely nothing. It attempts to put the text into a readable form, but I see nothing charming about translating Moliere into American slang or braindead sentences. Get a real translation and don't waste your time!
