What a refreshing book!
I love this book! Newman has an eye-opening approach to matters of everyday life: my favorite chapters include the Man/Woman Thing, Do Talk to Strangers!, Giving in a Culture of Getting. It's not a problem solving approach - it's more about helping you to see your problems in a different way, in a new light, and that helps to make the problem actually go away. One of the more empowering books that I've read in a long time. I heartily recommend!! Even my husband (!) is enjoying it.
read this book
This book is not about self-help. It's about letting go of the things that are making you unhappy. Let's Develop offers individuals tools on how to develop again the way we did as children. That trying to get what we need is what is making us feel so needy. This book offers the only practical guide to gaining higher self-esteem that I have found. The tools in this book can give any person a greater sense of worth right away. You don't have to resolve the past or confront issues to feel better today. Today is about what you make of it. This book gives real guidelines on how to improve your life through giving.
This self-help book puts the emphasis on self, and it helps.
I've read a number of books that claim that they can help you solve your problems. This book makes no such claims. Instead, the author relates stories that are easy to relate too and gives you techniques that you put into practice every day of your life. I have one copy in the office and the other at home, and everytime one becomes a little overwhelming, out comes the book. With each reading the book continues to grow.

Eloquent and Moving
I read Phyllis Hoge Thompson's "Letters from Jian Hui" the day it arrived, read it with admiration, read it with emotions deeply stirred. "Letters" produced in me an intense emotional response, container and content so handsomely fused--eloquent text, lovely binding, delicate type face, evocative illustrations. Kristina Kachele and Mina Yamashita are to be congratulated for their contributions.
Letters from Jian Hui
The voice of the Letters from Jian Hui captures the sometimes humorous, often poignant linguistic surprises a foreign speaker brings to another language--in these poems a native Mandarin speaker is struggling to express herself in English. "Usually there is not much to do and I am boring." I like the way this happens through the series of poems without ever being overdone. I especially like the sense of earnestness I hear in Jian Hui, that earnestness and desire to do the very best that she possibly can rings very true to experience with overseas Chinese friends. Nothing is taken for granted and friendships are deeply treasured.

Lost Lands of the Book of Mormon

Fantastic
This book is well researched. Mrs. Olive has done a great job of backing up her theory with maps, artifacts and research. The book is well written and easy to understand.
If knowing where the Book Of Mormon stories actually occured is important to you, this is a good book to read.
She does an excellent job of giving her reasons why she believes the Book of Mormon did not occur in South America as is commonly believed by many in the LDS Church.
Very Good.
At last - Someone with common sense
After reading many of the books published by groups like "FARMS" who without prejudice invent outlandish and obsurd scenarios to support their theories, Phyllis has compiled a book that not only speaks to the heart through the spirit, but also supports her premises with fact and common sense. Each and every chapter of her book is based on the one fact we have ...THE BOOK OF MORMON. Nowhere does she fabricate ideas to support her own theories, but relies on scriptural references and architectural proof. At last... someone who truly understands the scriptures for what they are, simple and beautiful,

A great book for kids
I read this book and absolutely loved it. It is a great story for anyone who feels left out or "In the middle". I first read it in junior high and it gave me a character to identify with and a story to enjoy as well. I read it again and again.
THIS BOOK IS GREAT!
Maudie in the Middle is a book about a girl who is in the middle of seven children. She felt that being in the middle she got the worst of everything, because she had to go do chores instead of staying home to play with the youngest children, and she was to young to go do exciting things with her three oldest siblings. Maudie dreamed of being Aunt Sylvie's godchild so that she would get special atention from someone. Maudie thought that if she was good enugh her wish would come true. But it was to hard not to get in to trouble on the farm that she lived in the early 1900's.

The book by Phyllis Lambert "Mies in America" is the most intelligent and correct interpretation of the work of this master architect that has yet appeared in book form.
It is deep in detail of all his major works in this country.
It is a necessary read for all architects and historians of contemporary architecture who seek knowledge of this major twenith century artist .
The research done for this writing puts the work considerably ahead of any other Mies publication.

A welcome focus on Van Der Rohe in America
It is a rare occasion to find such an exhaustive study done on an artists work anywhere. Although the work of Van Der Rohe will always be seen as a vital contribution to the history of architecture, the depth and focus of the essays in this catalog will certainly bring appreciation beyond a simple fetishization of Van Der Rohe's Barcelona Pavillion. The inclusion of models, sketches, historical photographs, and works of art from his time offer a multi-faceted explanation of his works and their importance. It is a book that is not only scholarly in nature but also has a beauty that will engross the reader whether they take the time to read the essays or not. The book gets better the more you look at it and the final essay by Koolhaas offers a refreshing and pointed critique of the role of the conservator of Mies' work and how alive his work is. In this age where high modernism has been reduced to style without context and weight this book takes one of its best practitioners, shakes the dust the things that Van Der Rohe created, and offers us a stellar view of a brilliant contribution to American life.

A terrific book for the just diagnosed or anyone with b.c.
This book literally got me through the three weeks between my diagnosis and surgery. Dr. Joseph is a caring, intelligent woman whose personal experience and ability to articulate it are extraordinary. She covers standard and alternative therapies in a non-threatening and easy to understand way. The story of her spritual journey was remarkable.
Every woman should read this book!
This books is more than about breast cancer. It deals with working with doctors, emotional wellbeing and nutrition. It is how every woman should treat herself all the time, not just when faced with a life threateing disease. Very informative and easy to understand

Very amusing and interesting
Any animal lover will like this book. But this book is not just for animal enthusiats. The obstacles the author overcomes to become the first lady veterinarian in America is astonishing. She became highly successful and had people seeking her out because of her advanced study of surgery on horses who previously would have had to have been put down. This book is well-written and very funny. Anyone who likes James Herriott will definetly enjoy this book.
An eminently entertaining book.
I lost this book several years ago in a house fire. Nonetheless, I often think about the delightful escapades and endearing anecdotes. Phyllis Lose's intelligence, heart, courage, and sense of humor come through loud and clear. Her story of going to Veterinary School at a time when women vets were few and far between is an inspiration. Having this book out of print is a shame. This is a must read for any young person who loves animals (or anyone else needing to break down barriers)

No Job for a Lady
I liked this book because it was written in a way that not only got me interested in horses and veternarian medicine but it also gave me pride for what women have accomplished and built my self confidence. The book followed the time line of the authors life, so it was easy to follow, it also had humor in it. I would recomend this book to any animal lover or girl that has a dream of being a Veternarian, because this book makes anything seem possible.
