Comprehensive, Fact-filled and a Time Saver
This book is a must have for students of all ages. It provides the URLs of some great sites for information on virtually any research topic. This book should be considered a major resource for any high school student with questions about their homework; it contains comprehensive, fact-filled pages of information. It can be used as a summary, a resource, a starting point to seek further information. Using a search engine to locate sites with content equivalent to those listed in this book would take days. I would recommend this book to the highest degree. It should be noted, however, that if you are looking for specific information (statistics, demographics, etc.) you might be better off with a good search engine.

Good Driving Guide to Southwest
This is a good sightseeing guide that should help anyone who is interested in traveling the States of Utah, Arizona and New Mexico by car.

Even if you know you want to see the Grand Canyon, what else do you do in the Northern Arizona / Southern Utah area? This book answers that question.

Arranged by state, the book highlights different attractions in each area. It also suggests driving loops, designed to hi-light the highlights while traveling a circular route along major highways. This is certainly designed well for someone who is unfamiliar with the area and wants a travel itinerary laid out with suggested sights and attractions.

Accommodations or restraints are not listed, so one would have to look to another guide or the internet for those. This book can get you started with your destinations, however.

A Great Teaching Reference
Using Windows 98, while being only a preview edition, is a great resource. There is enough content for beginning and intermediate level courses. While I prefer color graphics with screen shots, this book does offer easy step-by-step instructions for most tasks. For a beginning level course the first 12 or so chapters are great, and then skipping to the end for an introduction to the help system is called for. The middle section of the book is has perfect content for an intermediate level course. The only two things I do not like about the book are that it doesn't have colored graphics, as I mentioned before, and it is a preview edition, which means that small amounts of information are incorrect.

Get volume 2 of this same title.
This was my second 3D Studio max book. Buying it then was a mistake. There are many introductory books out there and this is one of the best but the problem is that the followup to this book; Inside 3DSMax vol 2, has everything vol 1 does and more. Get it if you are just starting out, and then I hope you are not scared of big books because this is where you start off, and start off well. If you already know your way around Max and just want to know advanced stuff like material manipulation and smoother models, get volume 2.

Best book for 3D Studio MAX
Inside 3DStudio MAX At last! The book we all waited for.Inside 3DStudio MAX,writtten by Steven Elliot & Phillip Miller;authors of Inside 3DStudio Release 3 & 4.Some said that Inside series is better than the manuals.Well,to tell you the truth, they are quite right. The book is very well structured. It has 29 chapters, starting from explaining the core concepts of MAX,and ending in Network Rendering.Every chapter has its introduction and summary, that's very good 'cause you know what's the chapter about and the summary reminds you the most importants parts. It is not a book that throws you some tutorials only.On the contrary, the writers pay attention to general knowledge an animator must have.Mixing colors and light, story boarding,etc.. Every button is explained thouroughly in the book.It teaches you the best way to model and animate efficiently every model you can think of. Of course,it has some drawbacks.Material editor,Video Post,Space Warps & Particles are not explained in depth.Although there is a solution to that(in February 2 more Volumes will be published:Inside3DStudio MAX Volume II:Advanced Modelling & Material Editor,Volume III:Animation & Character Studio),who wants to buy 2 more books that costs 110$ additionally?(Answear:Me..:P).Another drawback is that the book has color photos only in the chapters that refer to Material Editor(although some will say that's no big deal). And the CD that is included with the book has 200mb of textures.O.k ,where's the drawback?:) Only a few of them are useful.90% of them are very artistic and extend beyond the needs of traditional animators.I think that whoever makes the textures(by the way Tim Forcade, who included textures in 3DStudio 4 Hollywood & Gaming Effects & Indide 3DStudio 4),should have in mind that animators need practical textures like wood, metals and stuff and not abstract paintings.... Inside is for the novice and for the experienced animator, and it is by far the No.1 if you want to master MAX. "Inside 3D Studio MAX should be a part of every serious animator's library"(Larry Crume,Vice President,Autodesk and General MAnager,Kinetix)

Another Classic from the Masters
There's a thing common to all classic books: even if you've read one from cover to cover you discover something new every time you open it. Things that you glossed over earlier suddenly start to make sense. This book is no exception. Since 'Inside 3D Studio Rel. 3' the authors have provided an unique insight into the world's most popular 3D programs. This book raises the standard even further, providing enough grip for the novice and a treasure trove of knowledge of the professional. The best thing about this book is the explanation of the PRINCIPLES behind 3D Studio MAX. Instead of the 'do this-screen shot-do that' methodology, the authors have concentrated in the core ideas behind every tool and procedure. If you want MAX to be an extension to your right brain, get this book. Read it all the time. Do the tutorials. Keep referring to it for ideas. You'll discover what you were missing with other books -- the real goods on making MAX dance to your tune.

Caveat on PDA Software
This is a critique on packaging not content. The "PDA" software that comes with the book is for "PalmOS 3.5 and higher". This is unforunately not mentioned in the description here or even at the publisher's site. It's not on the book either and can only be see on the disk after breaking the wrapper.

PDA version of Essence of Anesthesia Practice
The PDA version is not compatible with Palm OS 5 despite the statement "for Palm OS 3.5 and higher". The publisher's comment was an unhelpful statement confirming this incompatibility.
Intending purchasers of the PDA version should be informed of this clearly in the promotional material.

Great problematic systemic anesthesia assistance
I purchased this book for my husband. He has been a CRNA for 20+ years. He has found this book to be an excellent source of information. By having individual systemic problems on each page with the review of problems, it's causes, and anesthesia implications; this book makes it easier in formulating your anesthesia plan. For the numerous varieties of problems that patients display, having something like this is great for any medical library.

A little superficial, but okay.
Like almost all hornbooks or outlines, this one glosses over Trademark law. Copyright, Patents, and Trademarks are all taught seperately, so I don't understand why they are lumped together and glossed over superficially by almost all hornbooks.

Good book, but now out of date
Much has changed since 1990, particularly in patent law, with the advent of the provisional patent application. Still useful, but many details will be incorrect.

The third edition is up to date--It is super!!!
I don't know whether or why the 2d edition would be on sale, as the first reviewer implies in his or her nevertheless good review. The third edition has been out for two years and it is complete, accessible, understandable, and better than the competition--by far! If you want to understand patents, copyrights, trademarks, this book will make you an expert in an afternoon.

Lots of action...Lack of good editing
My first Ludlum novel. I went to buy The Bourne Identity which was Out Of Stock at my bookstore so I decided to purchase The Sigma Protocol to get a taste of Ludlum's writing.

The Sigma Protocol started out fast and furious and was quite intriguing but about halfway through the book you get the sense that he's attempting to rush the story and the reader has problems keeping a mental timeline of what is occuring within the story. At one point (and probably the worst example) a government Justice Department investigator is in the U.S. discussing details of a case and within a few pages is suddenly in Austria staking out the proposed suspect when prior to this it took Ludlum an entire 2 chapters just to get the suspect (Ben Hartman) to a particular home within Austria where he was already residing. It's events like this that begin to overcome the storyline and frustrate the reader.

Finally, the editor did a very poor job of editing facts which support areas of the story. In one particular section Ben Hartman applies a headlock to an individual which "cuts the blood supply to the man's femoral artery" and renders the individual unconscious. Well, the only thing that is going to happen if you cut the blood supply off by blocking the femoral artery is that your leg will go to sleep since the artery is not located in the neck (as Ludlum leads you to belive). This happens every once in a while throughout the story.

Overall, if it's action and a fast-paced story you are interested in then this book will probably satisfy your appetite. Happy reading!

Ludlum's Swan Song
Robert Ludlum, one of the most popular authors of best selling thrillers passed away early this year. With 23 novels, over 200 million copies in print, Ludlum's contribution to the genre of action thrillers is indeed worth reckoning.

I pay my humble tributes to this talented writer who has kept book lovers like me hooked to his writings for over 20 years.

As a reviewer and a critic, I have found Ludlum taxing the gullibility of his readers with his bizarre, outrageous plots, implausible storylines, and his constant fixation on "conspiracy by a super-secret, ultra powerful, underground organisation" which has been repeated so many times that it has become a bore.

Nevertheless, as a reader, Ludlum has never ceased to fascinate me with complex plots, twists and turns, fast paced action, violence, heroics, nerve wrecking drama, intrigue, nail biting suspense, and his ability to keep the adrenaline pumping, readers on tenterhooks, making his books "unputdownable"!

This book, the last of the author is another such thriller about a secret organisation SIGMA.

Ben Hartman, a young business tycoon from America on a holiday in Europe, gets caught in a web of intrigue and suspense when suddenly he is being persued by a gang of ruthless killers. He finds that his twin brother, who had died years ago in Europe in an 'accident', was privy to some secrets. His investigations make Ben aware of SIGMA. Ben decides to keep digging till he unravels the truth.

Anna Navarro, a beautiful young woman, is an agent of US Government investigation agency, on a mission to investigate a string of deaths in Europe of once powerful, influential, old men, discovers that a group of people are being systematically eliminated by an unknown assassin/s.She also finds that all the victims are members of an organisation SIGMA.

Ben and Anna, after a series of confrontations, decide to join forces and gang up to find out the truth. SIGMA in the meanwhile has managed to make both of them pariahs and wanted criminals being chased by law-enforcement agencies all over the world. Both of them are on the run now, SIGMA as well as security agencies are on the look out for the couple. What then happens doesn't need any great imagination....better you read it for yourselves.

The novel keeps you glued and makes an interesting reading. DON'T TRY TO THINK OR ANALYSE! Enjoy it, just as one enjoys mindless action thriller fillums of Dharmendra et all. This book too has its own share of incongruities, unexplained incidents and unanswered questions....don't bother , just enjoy!

After having read so many of Ludlum (nearly all of them),one thing that bothers me is that, even though Ludlum names many well known persons, Corporations, agencies and incidents, how come nobody has even tried to sue him?...What if, some of his wild theories are true?...One shudders to think of the possibilities!

A Great Read!
This is the vintage Ludlum. Ben Hartman,an American investment banker has replaced his late brother in the firm. While in Zurich
an old college friend tries to kill Hartman killing several
innocent bystanders. This sets off a wild chain of events.Enter
Anna Navarro a field agent for the Department of Justice who is
investigating the deaths of several old men. They come into possession of an old secret file that links everything into an
organization called Sigma.Ben and Anna are being stalked by a hired assassin who is very good at what he does. The books spirals into a colossul conspiracy. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat.A very good book to read. You will enjoy it.

Nothing we really don't already know
This book was below my expectations considering such a topic as intimate relationships and the such. It's a decent read, if it were simplified. It seems the author tries to outdo himself with his penmenship. What it boils down to is that love is power, but then again, everything centers around power and some of the things that might perk your interest is stuff we really already know anyway.

Author falls short of his goal
The title of this book looks promising to readers who are interested in studying interpersonal psychology, and the book claims in particular to deal with the effects that previous abuse can have on a relationship. But the author falls far short of his stated goals. The pages are sparsely gilded with common-sense pop psychology, and these "discoveries" are "supported" by contemporary cases from the media; only a handful of cases are recycled throughout the book. Plenty of quality books exist on this book's alleged subject; seek out those books and don't bother with this lightweight.

This is not a handbook! ;)
For those of us who believe that great loves and partnerships are life's most valuable treasure ... this can be one hell of a scary book ;) He does a great job of pointing out the pitfalls built in to our modern concept of a "R-R-R-Relationship" (capital and quotes emphasized). You will recognize the symptoms and patterns he points out in society as a whole, in your family, your friends, and (painfully) even yourself. He's so brutally pessimistic in tone he doesn't leave much hope. However, looking at things with eyes wide open, as they are, is the first step toward recognizing these obtacles and pitfalls within ourselves (in my opinion) ... and thats our best chance of taking responsibility for it and changing it. This is where the hope lies. As long as you don't let it depress you (lol) ... this one is a must read. Besides, his metaphors are hilarious: they rule :) He loses a star for the pessimism - he could lighten up a tad ...

Oh no, the author isn't biased
Near the very beginning of this book the author makes a few claims that he wouldn't take an anti-Microsoft stance. As you read it's impossible not to detect his bias all over this text.

The facts are simple, Linux is an alternative to Windows; but it's not for everyone. It's not near as easy to configure. Try to configure special audio hardware, or worse yet a cable modem connection and you're looking at a few days worth of reading, tinkering and troubleshooting something that would likely only take a hour or two (at most) on Windows. This is only one case of many where your average user just shouldn't have to deal with the innconviences of Linux. Does it make since for a superuser or Linux developer, absolutely! Does it make since for the business that wants to cut cost by putting a free OS on their desktops and servers, absolutely! Does it make since to the average home user..... Absolutely NOT!

The Linux community loves their product, and most of them HATE Microsoft and ANYTHING Microsoft produces, after trying Linux and tinkering with it for a few days, I'm not blown away at all. I see it's usefulness, but keeping things in perspective I also see Windows usefulness. regardless you SHOULD NOT use the book as a tool for helping you decide.

(titles are so stupid for these things)
ok, this guy hates microsoft. and instead of telling you about linux, hes telling you how great it is and how bad microsoft is, instead of explaining how to go about things. but this is still a great book, and makes linux alot easier than every windows user makes it sound. but i still like windows, and i still run xp, and i like microsoft a lot. but i also run linux on the same machine, which you should too.

Excellent for Newbies!!!
I have been trying to learn linux for over a year, without any success. Mostly it was due to bad hardware support. [....]P>This book is informative, step-by-step, easily read, and most important of all, funny! Not only have I passed into a larger world, I can now read most linux/unix books and magazines out their and understand what they are talking about. After 2 days of reading and working along with the book, I was able to set up a proxy on one computer, and browse the web off my Red Hat 7.2 computer... using Links!

Those of you who know MS windows and are newbies of the Linux world, this book is for you.
