If you want to learn more about woodpeckers get this book!
I hesitated getting this book because I couldn't find much written about it, but I wanted to find out more about the several species of woodpeckers that visit our backyard and the woods around us. I hit the jackpot with this book and recommend it highly for anyone who wants to learn more than the basics covered in bird guides. All the North American woodpeckers are covered and many more as well. The illustrations by Dana Gardner are breathtaking. You will find out how different species store their food ,their dwellings and territories, daily life, how they communicate, pair formation, social life, and much more. This book is an enjoyable read and not at all like reading a textbook. If you want to learn more about woodpeckers get this book!

A Wonderful Information Guide to the deep!
Oceans is an excellent book starting with the "anatomy" of the ocean and ending with creatures and the future. I carried this book around with me for days jumping to where I left off every chance I got. It's a sensational guide to the mysterious deep!

Texas Rattler Lore
I read this 'bout 20 years ago, and it was fascinating then, as it is now. Mr. Dobie brings to us the Texas legendry and lore surrounding the rattlesnake, both in humor and seriousness. Great book.
Reader's Digest Book of the Great Barrier Reef

Classic guide book!
This book contains loads of beautiful and accurate photos of the various fish, coral and plant life in and around Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I was first lent this book by an experienced diver who had already been to the Great Barrier Reef. There was also a copy on the dive boat I was on when diving the reef. I found it enormously helpful in filling out my dive logs because the photos look so much like the wildlife I just encountered on my dive. I was able to use the book when I couldn't remember the names of various fish and animals I wanted to note in my log. It's very accurate; stunning photography. If you want to know what the reef looks like or want to refresh your memory this is the source! I'm also surprised about the limited availability of this book considering the huge amount of divers the reef attracts.

I thouroughly enjoyed my first reading of Frank Fields Jr's book "Sleep Be Not Forever". I enjoyed my second reading just as well. I have read many Science Fiction Novels, and find this book as one of my favorites. John Balog Age 51.

A wonderful sampler of Sigurd Olson's essays.
For those who wish to explore the wonderful prose, thoughts and observations offered by this pioneering outdoorsman, I will highly recommend this book. Bringing together essay samples from a number of his books, the reader will enjoy the insights Olson offers as he journeys through America's wilderness. He provides a writing style that is comfortable to read and his words will transport you from your chair into the canoe with him as he paddles/camps his way through places many of us can only hope to go. It takes a chapter or two to recognize that Olson doesn't write with one chapter flowing into the next, but rather each chapter is a story in itself. And, with that understood, sit back, read and enjoy the trip(s)!
Trogons, Laughing Falcons, and Other Neotropical Birds (Louise Lindsey Merrick Natural Environment Series, No 29)

Insights on some interesting neotropical bird species.
This may be Skutch's last book--the culmination of seven decades of careful observation of hundreds of bird species. Here he has selected some very interesting neotropicals and offers his own detailed, thoughtful insights into their habits, often citing other sources to round out the reader's appreciation of his subjects. His narrative style is objective yet personal--spoken as though he were standing right next to you while birding together. This book deserves a place in your library. It is a wonderful reference source as well as a good read. Skutch is truly a master and this is another important contribution to his body of excellent work.

A book with depth
a book with depth I find in this book so many attributes of preservation of more than just wildlife. The book tells a great story of a man's dream, a kid's growth, and about how a bird brought them together. The man was real and was influential in bringing a lot of publicity to a beautiful place and a beautiful bird where I grew up as this man's son. this is a fitting tribute to him and all he cared about, before his time was up as it's caretaker. Especially when he never asked for the credit, or prestige for himself for what he considered a privilege and part of his job as a human on this planet.

Feels like you're there.
John Muir is simply the best naturalist writer I have ever read. His writing is clear, descriptive and interesting. I typically don't like this type of writing, but his essays make you hear, see, taste and smell the outdoors. I usually like to experience nature directly, but Muir is the next best thing to being there. A collection of his best works is presented here.
