An excellent and practical guide.
I have found this book very useful both in the field and in the museum. It represents an excellent feat of practical scholarship by Bonaccorso, with good keys, locality information (with maps), reference to specific museum specimens, and external measurements for all species from PNG, including the provinces in the Bismarcks and northern Solomons. It is not only a terrific synthesis of what is known of bat biology in the country, but also offers a large store of new information. Also extremely handy are the comprehensive gazetteer at the end with lat/long coordinates and the good bibliography. Fiona Reid's excellent color illustrations round out the guide.

For your bug hound this book is tops.
My 11 year old needed some type of basic reference (as well as did I to help him) in his overzealous bug hunts. This book with its pictures was a wonderful book to help him in his quest.

Quick energy for the mind and spirit
Frank Pool's handsome new collection of poetry offers such diverse fare as "Stubbs Barbecue", "The Day After Tupac Shakur Died" and "Home and the Trail", each a gem of wit-driven writing. It's thin enough to carry in a backpack or a briefcase and equally at home in both. Pulled out on a gray or wearing day, it will provide as much energy as a cup of trail mix with a gallon of mental stimulation on the side. Altogether very tasty indeed.

This interesting and informative book can save your life!
Dr. Frank Field tells why more Americans die by fire than any other nationality - we don't know nearly as much about fire as the rest of the world! We believe things about fire that are not true, and that cause needless damage, pain and deaths. WHY IS THIS BOOK OUT OF PRINT? It deserved to be in every library in the world, and in every home as well. (I speak as a professional safety consultant - I found this the best book of its kind ever written.) This book is worth whatever it costs you to get it. I recommend it wholeheartedly. William Foss, ZEE MEDICAL SERVICE - Santa Monica, California. The authoritative reference on No. American Waterfowl
This comprehensive research resource contains all information you could possibly want for all waterfowl that appear in the wild on this continent. It is not, and does not read like, a novel. It is straight facts in a logical and thorough layout. This book will be highly prized by hunters, bird watchers and any one else interested in the identification and unique behavior patterns of waterfowl.

Color plates of adults and chicks of both sexes in all color phases, plus juveniles for geese are included. Species identification, migration ranges and patterns, adult and juvenile sizes, breeding territories and behavior, population trends, food habits for all species and major races (11 races of Canada geese - it is incorrect to call them "Canadian") are covered in depth.

I particulary enjoyed the coverage of rare migrating species such as Baikal Teal, Eurasian Green-winged Teal and European wigeon.

I own the 1976 version of this book and will be purchasing the current updated version soon. This has been by far the most valuable waterfowl and wildlife book I own. The main updateable content of this book is current population numbers and trends as these vary widely from year to year.

One of the most sought after vintage field guides on the subject. Close to 500 pages in length (most editions) with detailed text, illustrations and charts. Older editions (pre-1950) have become quite a collectible.

long time coming
A Field Guide to the Heavens is a much anticipated third book of poetry by this gifted craftsman. And the wait yielded a maturity that is astonishing.

Gaspar's grasp on his place, in relation to his environment and to the universe as a whole, is the play we're invited to join. I suggest this book be read at one sitting in order to appreciate the fullness of its reach.

Poems of extaordinary merit include: Metropolis, I Work Late at My Table in Summer, July in the Street of Fevers, The Lemons, A Spell Against Ruins,

and especially,

Psalms in August.

There are far too many to mention here. This is a pure, honest book of poems that delight both the soul and the tongue.
