For those who love children
Sister Elizabeth Roach in writing about the life of Father Bill paints a word picture of a common man who followed his dream to help the downtrodden and less fortunate people in this world. When child nelect and abuse is all too common in this world she tells the story of a man who loved children and wanted only to help them, but lost his life in trying.

Glorious Gloriana
The authors assert that much of substantial value about effective leadership can be learned from Gloriana who ruled the nascent English Empire for almost 45 years. I agree. Her greatest accomplishments include:

' The establishment of the Church of England (in 1559)

' Re-establishment of the authority of the British crown at a time when other monarchies were deteriorating

' Re-establishment of English coinage after the nation's near (and total) bankruptcy

' Support of exploratory voyages (by Drake and Raleigh) in the New World to lay what eventually became the foundation of the British Empire

' Support of the cultural arts during what is now regarded as England's "Golden Age" (ie the Elizabethan Age) of literature, theater, and music

' Survival of all manner of foreign threats (eg invasion by the Spanish armada in 1588) as well as domestic conspiracies (e.g. numerous assassination attempts)

These and other accomplishments are explained by her intelligence, commitment, tenacity, charisma, style, grace, and charm. Also by her almost ferocious determination. Also by what the authors characterize as her brilliant use of "pragmatic delays." It is also worth noting that she led an all-male government with an androgynous style designed to transcend gende rissues. Moreover, throughout her reign, she sustained direct and frequent contact with her subjects at all social levels throughout the realm. Perhaps no other monarch in history was loved more.

The authors organize their material within 12 chapters whose subjects are indeed relevant to the our own business world: Leadership, Managing Finances, the Art of Spin, Team Building, Vision-Mission-Commitment, Decision-Making, Vast Intellect, Style, Gender Politics, Competitive Intelligence, Her Greatest Triumph, and Succession and Legacy. The authors include within their narrative comments by women in our contemporary business world, comments which reveal and illuminate the relevance of Elizabeth I's leadership strategies and tactics to what all executives today (not only CEOs and dcertainly not only women) now need to be effective. If you have seen the recent films Shakespeare in Love and/or Elizabeth, you can already envision this remarkable woman. Higgins and Gilberd create for her a much broader and deeper context with which to understand her greatest strengths and most admirable virtues. If and when I am ever permitted to have a "fantasy dinner", Elizabeth I would certainly be among those included, perhaps joined by Julius Caesar, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Katherine Graham, and Jack Welch.

Marriage with My Kingdom
I read Alison Plowdens first two books on Elizabeth when they came out years ago. It's nice to know they are being republished. Marriage with My Kingdom is so compelling I couldn't put it down. Elizabeth was shrewd enough to know that she couldn't have a husband and rule the England as well. How many of us would do that? I can't wait until the fourth volume comes out.

Pawtucket's Rich History
Pawtucket, Rhode Island, has a rich history. These authors have labored well in finding that history. Among other things, they have dug through old deeds and other documents to produce maps based on the description of the land holdings before 1800. With this book in hand, you can navigate the streets of present day Pawtucket and trace history.

Important to lovers of family history, particularily the Bucklin family, are the details of family and town life before 1750.

Still A Classic, Still The Standard
Dozens and dozens of Elizabeth biographies have appeared since Neale's. They range from fawning and highly subjective to harsh and unflattering. Yet even those writers dismissive of Neale's adoration for this queen cannot dispute his authentic scholarship. The man was an enormously respected historian, and his erudition forms the solid basis of his admiration. He sees Elizabeth in her own time, then draws the parallels needed to make that time, and what she accomplished within it, real to us. Perhaps most importantly: he writes with the hand of a gifted narrator, and with well-substantiated joy in his subject.

A Nice break from standard math books.
The "I Love Math Series" by Time life is a great break from the standard math textbook. Each book contains games for adding, subtracting, estimating, multiplying and program solving. We particularly liked the Nature Math. It shows your child how to find pattern in nature. Some exercises allowed us to bring math out of the books and off the paper and experience it in our own backyard. Each book also contains a story from "Professor Gusser". As you and your child read along, you try to solve this math problem some character is having. I would rate this book a 10, it is a must for any home library

A Fantastic True Love Story
"How Do I Love Thee?" was a romantic true love story. In the book, Robert Browning gave Elizabeth "Ba" Barret the courage to love and live life. Ba was an invalid who lived with a widowed, controlling father of seven children. Although, Ba was his pride and joy, he kept her captive through her illness. Ba's poetry caused Robert Browning to fall in love with her and wish to meet her. The two poets' friendship blossomed through their letters; after they met face to face it soon became love. Soon Ba's father was the only thing standing in the way of their true happiness.

The book begins with a curious statement which holds your attention through the first few chapters. "How Do I Love Thee?" becomes very interesting after Ba and Robert finally meet face to face. The author's incorporation of the love poems of Elizabeth Barret Browning and Robert Browning was terrific addition to the story. The end was disappointing, but the book as a whole was a fantastic true love story of two amazing poets.

The best critique since sliced bread
Who would have thought that such an unassuming book could have come to be so supremely valuable. although at points the style is a little subversive i found the book to be on the whole insightful and well constructed. For those who have not recently bought a book of this genre i reccommend it heartly.

An in depth very well written book on Mother Seton
In my studies of Saint Elizabeth Seton I have found this book to be of most value. It goes beyond the auto-biography and dips into the soul of Elizabeth Seton and the reader. This book shows us how we can use Mother Seton's example to better our own lives by becoming closer to God. It truely is a good spiritual read.

Really useful course
I'm an avid language learner and as such have used many different
courses and techniques. This course is really good. The cassette drills are very effective. If you use them, don't get intimidated by the speed. The first run through them is difficult. It gets easier after that. I've found it to be very effective to first go through a chapter, learn the words which are new to you and then do the tapes. I do the tapes for each chapter 3 times. e.g. do ch 1, then 2, then 1, then 2, then 3, then 2, then 3, then 4, etc. And review as necesary.
I went ahead and bought the course II as well and I'm going to go
back and get the Mandarin course for review as well.
