There is a lightness in this book and an honesty which shines through the pages. You know the author is an ardent believer, but she is never heavy-handed. She can be extremely moving, but her examples and stories are down-to-earth and often very funny.I found myself laughing out loud( which I seldom do when I am reading). I was laughing in sympathy...because her examples were so apt! I recommend for anyone trying to find God today.

I had to read this book for a college history class I took. It was good and interesting reading for something that was required. Even if you don't have to read this book for your Tudor/Stuart History class, take some time out and read it! You'll definitely be rewarded with a great sense of history and accomplishment.

This book has a baby on each page pointing to tummy, eyes, leg, and so on. As I read this to my 13-month-old son, I point to the baby's leg, then show him his leg. He really enjoys this sort of game, and likes looking at the pictures of babies. Sometimes, we cover up the baby faces, and play peekaboo with the pictures. He loves that. Great book for a baby. My son asks to read this book a lot.

This small book would serve nicely as an introduction to classical mythology for the middle grades and interested adults as well. Spires' tone as she retells the tales of not only Arachne, but of Pandora, Orpheus and Eurydice, Sisyphus, Endymion and others as well, is just wry and arch enough to be quite delightful and so appealing. This is captured very well in Gerstein's simple and almost cartoonish illustrations. It's just so fun to hear Eurydice saying "I was married to Orpheus for about fifteen minutes when I was bitten by a poisonous snake and brought down to the underworld. So much for my happiness." Spires' characterizations of these well-known archetypes are always on the mark. The cast of characters list at the end of the book is also useful, if not essential, and also set in a droll prose. The work well fills the gap between the D'Aulaires' classic Book of Greek Myths and the more adult By Jove! Brush Up Your Mythology by Michael Macrone and the also wonderful and more recent Friendly Guide to Mythology by Nancy Hathaway. Entertaining and painlessly edifying, all.

This out of print book is a facinating story of the settlement of the Colorado Rockies. It details the freight wagons role in carrying supplies to mining camps from the rail head. The book is full of personal interest stories that both inform and facinate.

I'd never heard of this woman. I literally picked this book up because I was desperate for something new to read. These letters chronicle her life from the moment she entered Carmel until her death. She is both simpler and more complex than St. Therese of Lisieux, but a woman completely in love with God and completely in TOUCH with love. Outreaching, unafraid to love with seemingly her whole heart. This much love is staggering. I couldn't put the book down, because I had simply never encountered such a creature. Now, I find myself, everyday, remembering one of her phrases. I will have to get the first volumne, now.

This book has colorful pictures and stories about Jesus. Following each story is and picture and short lesson of how a child can apply the story to his daily life. Each lesson has a short poem that the child can repeat after the reader. It holds the interest of four and five-year-old children and provides them with information about Jesus.

This book was about a boy named Marcus Rossenbloom, and he loves girls. sometimes he daydream, that when he walks into the room, all the girls are looking at him and whispering "who's that guy," "he's gorgeous." but when he snaps out of it, he realizes that it never happened. Marcus is a person that thinks sex is missing from his life, but he knows that there is more than life, than sex. but he can't figure it out quite yet. let me decribe Marcus he's almost 6" feet tall has blus eyes, with black curly hair and he's a senior in high school. So marcus is almost an adult. Marcus is for sure that sex is missing, and he thinks that there is a wall, that seperates childhood from adulthood, and marcus wants to join the adulthood. but then he meets this girl name Wendy Barrett but he calls her (Wendy Bird)they know each other since thay were little, until she moved away, and she's back, and marcus will try anything, for her to be his girl. Now this is Marcus's first girlfriend, and while he was with her, he didn't act like a jerk, he had no feeling, he felt no lust, he felt absolutly nothing. Marcus figured out what was more important to life, it wasn't the fact that he would look down their shirts. Marcus just realized that girls weren't that important than he thought.

It captures the layered and complicated history of the Hawaiian Islands and at the same time deftly blends in the author's contemporary perspective. A page-turning must-read for anyone interested in Hawaii, or not.
