An important contribution to the current literature in ethic
Hutchinson writes with grace and flair. His judgments of Moore are penetrating and wise, neither adulatory nor inimical. Unlike most writers on Moore, Hutchinson is at home also with Moore's epistemological and metaphysical works. He correctly ties Moore's realism ("objectivism") in ethics to his defense of common sense in epistemology. Moore's "innocence" (Keynes's word) regarding the existence and knowability of values is nicely compared with his much discussed, with derision or admiration, "innocence" regarding the existence and knowability of material objects. Moore thought that both are obvious, and that only intellectual confusion leads to thinking they are not. Hutchinson's book is an important contribution to the current literature in ethics. It would be an excellent "companion" for readers of Moore.

the unpublished bird paintings
this is a very large book,11 by 14 inches, beautifully bound, with some 400 pages and 89 coloured plates, compared to bullers birds of new zealand that has 48. a must have book if you appriciate bird paintings, very comparable to keulemans, but lacking the native background which made the paintings more "lifelike".the excellent text complements the birds well.this is a book you can take pride in

My daughter read this book five times right after my wife and I bought it for her. She loves ghost stories and she loves horses, and this was a wonderful mix of both. What a find!

A very apt intro
My wife gave me this book for Christmas; she new I liked C.S. Lewis and that he counted Geo MacD as his mentor. I can heartily recommend this volume to anyone. The variety of style is what struck me the most: some of these I will read aloud to my children, some made me laugh out loud, and others left me scratching my head as to what the author was alluding to. Geo MacD has great insight into human nature, revealing our innermost thoughts so we can see we are not so different from the next guy. If you have heard of the author but aren't quite sure you would like him, try this one --- you'll know instantly!

In a word--WONDERFUL!!!
This book is fabulous. It really transports you back to the Anglo-Saxon era. I originally read it because I wanted to read about William the Conqueror, but now I'm a huge Harold I "fan."

A CLASSIC IN PROSE STRUCTURING
If you are a serious writer, do whatever you have to do to get this book; I'm serious, buy it, read it at the library, steal it, whatever you have to do, just read this book! Originally published in 1912, this classic is one of the first (and, sadly, one of the few) full-length studies of prose rhythm. William H. Gass (as well as a host of other writers) was breastfed off this book! Read it!

An Inspirational Book!
Being an Early Childhood Education student, my dream is to teach children and to teach them in the best way possible. I was first introduced to Reggio Emilia in a lecture at University early this year. During this lecture I learnt of this marvellous book that told the story of Reggio Emilia. I haven't been able to put the book down since! I have become totally inspired by what I have read, about the theories, ideas and beliefs behind this special educational community that is Reggio Emilia. From this book I have begun to understand that if you give children the best early in life it is a training for life. The interview with Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of Reggio Emilia, is inspiring, making the reader feel as though they are in fact speaking to Malaguzzi. Being able to read about the life of this great educator, about how Reggio Emilia came alive, especially in his own words, is unbelievable. The activities presented in the book and the pictures by the children are wonderful. I have gained so much from this book, so many ideas that I will hold onto to ensure my success as a teacher. This book has truly opened my eyes to what the focus of education should be, that is the children. I feel extremely lucky to have read this book, the more I read the more I want to visit Reggio Emilia and see the great work that is being done, by the teachers and children alike. This book is a treasure, one that I could read over and over. I highly recommend it to any education students, educators and parents of young children as an insightful look into what we can only hope to achieve in every classroom.

The book of my childhood.
This book was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I never read it in English, I did not even speak English back then. I read it in Polish and now I want to see if it's as good in English as well. It's a book that makes one want to be at the places that are described, see and feel, touch and live with people who are characters of this book. I read this book hundreds times and I still grabbed it tonight, even though I am already twenty. And it still takes me into the author's childhood. Not only that, it takes me into my own childhood as well. It is truly an amazing book.

This is a very well researched and most interesting read.
Queen Mary was the consort of King George V and the paternal grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II. She was a great influence on Queen Elizabeth II and the resemblance between Queen Mary and her famous granddaughter is uncanny. Queen Mary was the daughter of one of Queen Victoria's cousins, Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge. Queen Mary's father was the Duke of Teck (a morganatic son of the heir apparent to the throne of the Kingdom of Wuerttemberg - now part of modern Germany). Queen Mary was destined to marry Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale (eldest son of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra) but he died before any marriage could take place. Queen Victoria wanted this marriage badly. Queen Mary at this time was Her Serene Highness, Princess Victoria Mary of Teck. To have lost the heir to the throne of England was a great loss. Queen Victoria knew that this Princess was worth keeping and soon Prince Albert Victor's younger brother George was married off to his late brother's fiancee. They eventually became King George V and Queen Mary on the death of King Edward VII in 1910. The marriage was a success and for Princess Victoria Mary of Teck it was a great rise from Serene Highness to Royal Highness and eventually Queen Consort. Queen Mary herself had a very interesting early family life. Her brothers were interesting characters as well as her parents. One of her brothers married King George V's cousin HRH Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone while another caused Queen Mary much embarrassment with his gambling and other dubious activities. Queen Mary came from German stock and it is interesting to read about her German relatives. Her own married life is of much interest and of course her children are well known. She was the granddaughter-in-law of Queen Victoria, the daughter-in-law of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, the wife of George V and the mother of King Edward VIII and King George VI. Her life spanned a most turbulent period and she was a solid rock in the life of the British Royal family, providing a sense of security to the British Monarchy particularly during the abdication crisis. This is a very well researched book. It is well worth the read.
