A GREAT TRAVEL GUIDE
My husband and I recently made a trip out west and used this book as our guide to follow the Oregon Trail. It was excellent! Her directions were right on the money and the book was easy to read and follow. She breaks the trip down to a day by day driving guide which was great so we knew how much time to plan. I would encourage visiting the 'out of way' options she offers. She also offers several driving options depending on your time allowance. A must have for an Oregon Trail trip!

A great book for everyone interested in traveling The Trail.
Julie's book is very useful in traveling the Lewis and Clark Trail. Highly informative and illustrated, it includes specific as well as local information about the various sites included in the book. Well worth having and using.

A fantastic guide
A trip to the Grand Tetons this year was greatly enhanced by this book, which I came upon with a search on Amazon.com. We used it to plan a car trip from Portland and we followed the Oregon Trail home from southern Wyoming. The maps were wonderful and the information accurate. We even golfed 9 holes at the Soda Springs municipal golf course to see the swales on the 8th hole, in addition to many other stops of intetest!

A read before you go book
My husband gave me this book for Christmas before we went to Venice and it was a great help planning our trip. I read it at least 4 times and used it to plan our walks through the city. If you are interested in art and architecture (why go to Venice if you are not?) this is the book to plan your days in Venice. My husband particularly liked the fact that Mr. Links understood the importance of stopping in a cafe to savor the city on each walk!

Great prep for seeing a great city
My husband ordered this book for me last Christmas in preparation for our trip to Venice. It was an enjoyable read and the walks laid out in the book were an excellent way to see Venice. Note: the hand drawn maps in the book are good but Venice is a very confusing city and I photocopied parts of a good map (with all the streets named) and highlighted the walks on the copies - this proved invaluable for keeping on track! I highly recommend this book to anyone as general reading to get in the mood for the trip or to follow Mr. Links on his 4 walks.

Whimsical and Charming
This book features wonderful history and walking tours in Venice, shared by a writer with a tremendous love for Venice the city. The author hopes that this trip you're making is just one of many, so you can spend more time sitting at an outdoor restaurant, rather than rushing to the next museum. You can always catch that museum on another trip--stay outside and soak in the romance of Venice itself. I have taken this book with me on my several visits to Venice, and try to follow his advice. You'll want to have another "standard" guide to the city, but don't forget this small gem.

A good guide
My wife and I recently went on our first trip to Italy. We stayed in Florence about 10 days and planned to take some day trips out of Florence. I bought the walking tape on Florence a couple of weeks before leaving home and was so impressed with the clarity of English and the historical content that I ordered the Siena and Pisa tapes too. They were all more than I expected. Although I listened to most of the tours on the flight over, I was very satisfied with using them on the actual tours and so was June. We took along a tour-guide book as well and found that the two really complimened each other. It was a great way to sightsee the streets of those beautiful cities. They were obviously well researched and written so that European history was linked here and there with U.S. history as well as the root of a lot of our English language. I recommend these tours to anyone traveling to Italy.

What Travelers Need
These tapes are wonderful because the information is based on the antiquities, and the tour taken is much more meaningful. The traveler can go at his or her own pace. Reading a travel guide and then applying that knowledge later looses something, these tapes are as the title states "Walk with Me". The traveler feels just like he or she is walking with the author, a very knowledgable, real person who knows what travelers need!

Walk with me in Pisa/Lucca
I would like to buy this guide cassette in Italian language, but I can see that you do not sell it. I like Cicerone man because his ENglish is very clear, and the map is good. But, please produce this cassette in Italian for other cities like Rome and Venice, Naples and Palermo.

I never would have found a secret getaway without this book!
My husband and I spent a wonderful two days in July 2000 staying in "The Cabin." at the Guest House Cottages on Whidbey Island. We found this romantic spot in this book. There are so many wonderful places in this book, so I will tell you about the place we stayed to give you an idea of the quality of the listings presented in this great resource.

We stayed in the cutest log cabin you have ever seen, pictures at my site. A complimentary continental breakfast was set up for us on arrival. We loved having our own kitchen and a grocery store nearby so we could pick up needed supplies for a picnic at the beach. There was a beautiful pool where you could lay out in the sun. In the winter you would be sipping hot chocolate by one of the beautiful fireplaces in your cabin. The cabins were off the road in the woods and have queen or king-size featherbeds. The floors, walls and ceilings were all wood. They have river-rock fireplaces or wood-burning stoves, skylights and antique furnishings. The one we stayed in had beautiful stained-glass windows. They really went out of their way to make our stay as romantic as possible. Once you have your key, the cabin is all yours. It is your own private getaway. If you are running late they even offer to leave the key out for you when you arrive.

There was a private deck complete with barbecue and two chairs so you could sit and look out over the pond inhabited by African geese. The surroundings were lush and green and we saw lots of the cutest bunnies.

We also visited a lavender field and brought home a little lavender plant. If you do visit these same cottages, don't forget to visit Deception Pass. In fact, plan to stay at least two days, there are plenty of activities, including hiking and sailing.

I can truly say that without this book, we would most likely have never known about this secret hideaway. So, between you and me....don't tell too many people! This is a great place. Only tell your best friends or buy them this book. I also recommend this book as a wedding present.

The pages are filled with pictures of each getaway and the general prices are also listed for your convenience. I believe there is a new book with updated information, but this is the one I have.

Beautifully Photographed; A Wonderful Resource!
"Weekends for Two in the Pacific Northwest" is a perfect resource for couples looking to have some away-time in a special place. From Ashland to Seattle, the beautiful photographs and detailed explainations are very helpful in planning your gettaway. Prices and aspects of dozens of hotels, lodges, B&Bs, etc. are explored and the authors even give personal oppinons, and suggestions on which rooms are more romantic. I would recommend this book to anyone with a heart for romance. It's a favorite in my household!

Incredible!!!!
This book has done a wonderful job of collecting some of the best places in the Pacific Northwest for couples. It gives comprehensive descriptions, tells you the best rooms to stay in, gives rates (they may be a little out of date now, but still-ballpark), and in general does a good job of showcasing the selected hotels. It made me want to visit every one of them. If you live in the area, or are visiting, and are romantically inclined, or know someone who is, get this book.

Great for strengthen your team's thinking
Brad's book is very helpful if you're a player or a coach. I share bits and pieces of his strategy with my high school team and their mental approach to the game has improved tremendously. Brad touches on every aspect of the game and gives you reasons why you should do certain things. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

Wish I'd read it when I was captain of my high-school team.
It's a part of the game I never knew existed when I played competitive tennis. I read it several years ago when it came out, and it's stuck in my mind.

Any great player can win at the top of his game. It takes a champion to be able to win ugly. It's Emmanuel Lasker's style of chess ... fight by making the opponent play the game he's least comfortable with instead of insisting on winning with your game when it's not at its peak.

It changed my whole way of thinking.
This is, without any doubts, this is the best book I have ever read on the mental part of the game. Brad, one of the best coaches in the world today(he has been coaching Agassi since he fell to #141 and now he is #2 in the ATP ranking). His strokes were ugly and so was his style but he kept winning all because he was tough mentally. This book explains every aspect of the game from a mental point of view. Read it, and believe it!

A must-have for fine art lovers and travelers!
Every time my husband and I plan a trip we check this little jewel and discover what exhibits are in vicinities we will be in. In fact, we have planned trips to go to particular exhibitions. Not only are exhibitions listed and clearly described but also accurate museum hours and telephone numbers are given. It is a must-have for us and a great gift for travelers.

Excellent guide for including museum visits to your trips.
This book has once again lead me to include the best exibits when planning my travels. It has helped me coordinate my travel plans with those of touring exhibits. Concise and worth trusting, this guide is a must for those who enjoy great art and love to travel.

Beautiful Country, Great Book
Our Texas Hill Country is indeed a little-known source of beauty to outsiders. Because of its depressed condition for decades in the past it was overlook even by Texans. Today, however, we are able to see this area for what it is: rolling hills, tumbling streams and rivers, and a great view around so many curves in its small secondary roads. Though West Texas is well-known for Big Bend, the sheer area of this part of our State, combined with sparse population, means all of us can enjoy peace and solitude--this is where the South turns into the Southwest.

Mr. Ford's book reflects a love of the area, combined with excellent directions and documentation of sights. The book is divided into geographic areas, and within those areas, into tours of a day or longer. He has also done an excellent job of rating the difficulty of the tours, and why he has come to those conclusions.

Though I have only cycled a small amount of this area, I would also recommend this book for those who would like to tour by car. I've traveled almost this entire area by car and wish I'd had this guide then. Additionally, I found the photography very well-done--particularly in view of the price of the book.

This book is a valuable resource, and a terrific buy for the price!

These are great rides
I have cycled only a few of the book's listed road rides in the Hill Country but I am familiar with portions of several other roads in the Hill Country and West Texas via automobile. These are truly great rides with well-thought directions and information. It's so good that when Mr. Ford says you will have to "shoo" sheep and livestock from the road, it really must be done! I eagerly await even more rides with the next edition of the book.

We use this book everytime we go out for dinner!
Having read lots of "guidebooks" about cities both in the states and in other countries, I can confidently recommend this book as one of the most comprehensive and usable! As residents of the Twin Cities, our household brings out this book everytime we want to know more about a building we've seen, when we want to know how late the zoo is open, or when we can't decide where to have a great dinner out. It is fun to read, very well organized by areas of the cities, and includes great information, such as history of neighborhoods and buildings, menu recommendations for restaurants, and where to find "hidden" locales. Excellent!

This is a great book
Unlike all the other Minneapolis guide books i saw. this one has an entire chapter about the mall of america (which is the whole reason for our trip to minneapolis), but it lists and describes many of the stores (especially the unusual and unique ones), and it has interesting facts about the mall. The book also has great maps. And the best part is, it color codes it's entries. Parks and outdoor activities are printed in green, hotels are in blue, resturaunts in red, etc. This book was a huge help in planning what to do and how long to stay.

Incorrect information!
The book is interesting, and therefore I gave it three stars. However, under the section on Frank Lloyd Wright, the author mentions Mamah Borthwick as FLW's first wife. She was not his first wife, and in fact was never his wife (although he had three). She was his mistress. This is a well known, easy to find fact. If the author didn't get this right, I have to question what else in this book is incorrect. Reading material that can't be trusted for accuracy makes me feel uneasy, no matter how interesting it may be.

Grave Thoughts
I have never, ever written a review before, but this book was such a terrific read that I just had to say something. Tod Benoit has found a unique subject and presented it in a fascinating format. The title caught my eye immediately and from the first page, I was hooked. The biographies were interesting and the grave directions were so precise that I may just spend my next free afternoon checking out the cemeteries in my own neighborhood. Who needs Beverly Hills? I can now claim several celebrities within a 4 mile radius of my home(of course, they're all dead, but what the heck). I would definitely recommend this book not only for the subject matter, but for the easy-going style in which it was written. I did find one huge biographical mistake, but I'll let future readers find it. Get this book...you won't be sorry.

Morbid, but fun!
For those who find cemeteries a fascinating study in history, for those interested in the lives and (more importantly) deaths of the famous and infamous and for those who enjoy the occasional mini-exploration, "Where are They Buried?" is a wonderful read. Biographies can tell you about a life and death and may even tell you where the subject is laid to rest. Few, however, will give the reader step-by-step (literally) directions to the subject's resting place. I can't wait for volume two! A great companion on your next vacation, you may be surprised who you meet along the way. Buy the book and enjoy the trip.

Best Book for Experienced Unix Programmers to Learn MFC
After searching for 3-4 years for the right book to learn MFC and Windows programming, I finally found it. Laura Draxler, you are a goddess for writing this very intelligent guide for experienced programmers to learn MFC and Windows programming. I hope you and Prentice Hall will extend a revise the book to cover advanced topics such as COM+. One of the real complaints I've had about other Windows programming books is they never made the connection between MFC and the underlying Windows architecture. This book is the RARE exception. Written for experienced programmers, it takes the reader from the basics of the Visual Studio tool suite, through most of the MFC controls, up to DLL's. Contains great illustrations and excellently documented code fragments.

Remove the mystery from Visual C++!
I have read all the popular books on MFC and C++. They all make assumptions that you understand the underpinnings of the environment. This book goes into explaining not only the most commonly used features of MFC with much clarity, but also explains numerous other details such as the use of .lib files and their role in conjunction with dll's. 'THE' MFC book!
