Great book for boys!
My boys love this book and the first Rex book. They are waiting for the rest of the books. They have read the two they have many times over and can't wait to get more. I have been very dissapointed that I can't find the rest of the series for them. I hope they appear soon. What a great way for kids to learn and to get them reading.
A mom of three

teacher's class pick
I got this in a set and my class really enjoyed it. My staff and I had a great time recognizing local locations and personalities. Even the children recognized some of them. they enjoyed the exciting story and have asked for it over and over again. I look forward to more from these exciting writers and so do my children.

Rosa Moreno
I loved this book. So now I'm reading more and trying to get my friends to read them to.

A young girl struggles to fufill her dreams.
Rosa Moreno grew up in Hollywood, but it wasn't a glamerous life. Since the death of her father, she and her mother have struggled to make ends meet, but the country is in the midst of the Great Depression. Rosa's mother dreams of making her a star, and Rosa doesn't have the heart to tell her mother that she wishes for something different, although she's not sure what yet. But Rosa does manage to discover what it is she wants to be, and determines to live her dream while still making her mother happy. I highly reccomend this novel if you're interested in historical fiction, the early history of movies, or if you're a fan of the American Diaries series.

Seirra: ( spirit stallion of the cimarron)
This book is awesome!
i read it in 1 day I loved it so much!
It is a good book for horse lovers who like adventure books-and not to mention liked spirit-
It is one of the 4 great books of Kathleen Duey.
This is my favorite one.
Seirra is a rambonciuos filly who enjoys galloping through the valleys- but the new leader of the herd is cruel to her forcing her out of the herd-...........

Spirit Of The Cimarron: Sierra
Sierra is a wonderful book. It is even better for a horse lover. It is about a young foal of the untamed West. She was born in a free herd there. But then a young proud stallion comes to take over the herd. Sierra carelessly runs to far from the herd which leads to a total disaster. She meets up with a lone stallion who takes care of her while taking her to an Indian Campground. She relizes that she has a new home here with these people and with the stallion. This book is a great adventure tale. But is probably even better if you are a horse lover. I give you my word that I just couldn't put it down.

Excellent Book
This is my daughter's (age 7) favorite book. She has read it several times and does not seem to tire of it. Kathleen Duey's plot is interesting and suspenseful, but not frightening. Duey engages and reaffirms a young girl's fantasy about unicorns and animals in general (my daughter's favorite character is Kip the dog). It also amply demostrates the strength and resourcefulness of Heart, the young heroine of this series, a great role model for young girls. We will definitely buy the rest of the books in this series.

great for reading at bedtime
This is a great story (#2 in the series) to read to your kids at bedtime - not too scary and has a few illustrations to keep the kids interested. We're looking forward to the next one.

A very good Survival book.
Thirteen-year-old Carrie's father told her to leave Hinckley on the train if the forest fire reached town - but Carrie doesn't want to leave her horse. Daniel, one of Carrie's friends, wants to leave Hinckley on the train - but he can't persuade his grandmother to come until it's too late. How will Carrie and Daniel manage to escape?

One of the best Survival! books.
Survival! Forest Fire is a very good book. The setting is realistic, and the characters act like real people might. For example, Carrie Vaughn, who's father is a volunteer firefighter, disobeys her father when he tells her to take a train to St. Paul. She decides to stay with her horse, Midnight, instead. I think this action is realistic, although it isn't the smartest thing to do in a fire. This book, I think, is a little more exciting than the rest because some of the characters injure themselves, and that makes it harder to escape from the fire. This story was sort of like Survival! Fire, but more exciting, as I have said. I think Kathleen Duey and Karen A. Bale's description was fantastic. It really helped me imagine the setting in my mind. I would like to thank Kathleen Duey and Karen A. Bale on a job well done and encourage them to keep writing these series!

A good American Diaries book.
Thirteen-year-old Amelina, who is Cajun, is an orphan. Since she was eight she has lived with her uncle on his small house on the bayou. But now it's 1863, the Civil War is creeping closer to Bayou Grand Coeur, and Amelina discovers a hurt Yankee. Helping him will risk her own life. Can she do what is right? I enjoyed this book. It was very exciting and historically accurate

funny and very entertaining
My three-year-old and I loved this book. What made us laugh were the illustrations. The picture of one of the boogeymen scared her but when I pointed out his funny hat and shoes she didn't seem so scared anymore. This is a really fun book and I wish I could find more in the series.

An excellant addition to the American Diaries series.
Thirteen-year-old Francesca Vigilucci has always lived a privileged life in Washington, D.C., as the daughter of a wealthy lawyer. The year is 1913, and things are changing for women in the United States - although it seems as though life in the Vigilucci household is no different than it has always been. Francesca knows that her parents expect her to marry a wealthy man and raise a family, but that's not the life she dreams of. She longs to attend college and start an exciting career, instead of living a life like her mother's - a life that would be boring to Francesca. The only person she can share her dreams with is Laura, a girl her age who works as a servant in the Vigilucci home. The girls long to attend the suffragist parade to show their support for the women fighting to win the right to vote, but with Francesca's grumpy, traditional aunt in town, will they be able to find a way? This was another excellent addition to the American Diaries series. Kathleen Duey brought to life both the suffragist movement and the varying social conditions of the wealthy and the impoverished in early twentieth century America. As always, I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

modern classic!
Kathleen Duey's books about Heart and the Unicorns are exactly that: modern classics. Here are everything you want in a book to read aloud to your daughter, to hand to your daughter who is wanting to read her own books, to give to your son to undo the whole notio of boys and girls books. Exciting adventure. General great good stuff. And no, I don't know Kathleen Duey

Spider-man fans will enjoy.
For those young people out there who want to read a Spider-man book rather than a comic book. Excellent quality photo-animation pictures and graphics accompany approximately twelve sentences per page. I enjoyed this book more than I did the movie. A must have for any young fan. Grades 4-8
