best of the series!
I'm not a fan of the series but this one is great. I read hurricane{boring} and attempted titanic [to boring to finish] but this was great! Max is a future lion tamer and jodi used to walk the highwire. {her mom was injured badly when she fell off one and she can't find the will to go back on} when the train crashes they escape alive but it might have been better they did'nt with what they are going to face.
COOLEST!!!!
These books are way awesome. They are so real and lifelike you feel like you are there. And they way they put fictional characters in famous or every day disaters is very intriguing. Duey and Bale had better keep writing these because no one wants to lose a good thing.
da' da' da' bbbbbbooooommmmbbbbb
Now I would like the world to know that everyone who likes to read should be reading these books. These books are da' best in da' world. I've read every single one of them and they got my 2 thumbs and five stars. Karen and Kathleen better be able to hear this, they also get my two thumbs up and my five stars. Keep writin'. The next book should be #12 Tornado, #13 Tsunami, and #14 Avalanche.

Great
I think this was a good book. I love historical fiction books and the American Diarie series is my fav. Josie is a cool character and her brother seems sweet. If you like fiction books about WW2 or the American Diaries you'll love this book.
A great book
Josie Poe lives during World War Two in a town called Palouse, Washington. She lives with her Mama, her Daddy, and her brother Tom. Everyone in town has a loved one fighting over in the Pacific or in Europe. Except the Poe family. So Josie is ashamed of her brother.Tom was acting really weird lately, so Josie wants to think of a good project for the war effort. Then, a robbery happens that involves Tom. Josie has to find out the truth about her older brother. But will the truth change her relationship with him forever? Find out and read this book!
Small town World War II story with a little mystery.
This was an enjoyable story set in a small farming town in Washington during World War II. There was a bit of a mystery, but not much action. This is more of a family/friendship story with a historical setting. It was a very good book, although less based in action then some of the other American Diaries.

This book is very good! Anyone who loves horses, you'll LOVE this book! I didn't like how it eneded, btu that's my opinion. I like Maria, Bonita's owner who sets her free so she won't get captured by the soliders of the war between Mexico and Texas. I cried when she did. This is an excellent book. even if you don't like horses, or reading books about, you should read this book any. I want to read Sierra, too. You will find out who Sierra in the end of Bonita. It's a great book!
Fantastic
This book was awesome!!! I love how she described everything in detail and took everything from the horses point of view. I read this book and Sierra in the same day!!!! I am telling all horse lovers to read this book!!! It is about Bontia, a stable horses, who is set free by her owner, Maria, because Maria is afraid that the soldiors, from the war, will capture her. Bonita is captured then by solidors and they use her for the war, when she finally gets free, she meets up with Paco, a donkey, and they become friends. Then Paco and Bonita find Rapheal, a wild stallion and they begin roaming with him. I won't tell you the whole book, but something happens to Rapheal. That's all I am going to tell you, but READ THIS BOOK!!

An excellant addition to the series.
Evie and her father are fortunate - they were slaves, but when their owner, a kind, elderly man, died, it was in his will that they become free. But Evie's mother belonged to a different man, and remained a slave. So for years, Evie's father saved up to buy her freedom, and finally he has enough. But when spitefull, predjudiced boys steal their freedom papers, everything they have worked so hard for is in jeopardy. Now Evie must save her family from a horrible fate - being sold back into slavery. I highly reccomend this book to historical fiction fans.
Great Book!!
Evie was a slave but when her owner died it was in his will that Evie and her father would be freed. But Mama belonged to a different man. Evie's family saved up to buy Mama but the family's neighbors are determined that they will not be free and Evie and her family discover just how dangerous freedom can be.
I loved it!
This book is about Evie Peach, a free black girl in St. Louis. The day has finally come! Her Papa has saved up to buy Mama freedom. But being free is dangerous, especially when your Irish neighbors are your worst enemy.

A story about a girl living on a dairy farm in 1933.
When Agnes May Gleason's father is injured working on the family dairy farm, her mother must take him to the hospital, leaving Agnes charge. Things were already difficult because of the Depression, and now Agnes's parents tells them to dump the day's milk. They can't afford to do that with these hard times, and Agnes decides to disobey her parents and make the deliveries with the help of her little brother and sister. This was an inspiring story about a girl during a difficult time in this country's history and how she overcomes difficulties to help her family.
A great new book in the American Diaries series.
Agnes May Gleason is almost thirteen, and she's living on her family's dairy farm near Walsenburg, Colorado, in 1933. Life has been hard for her family since the Depression started, and now Aggie's father has injured himself. When he must go to the hospital, Aggie is left alone to run the dairy with only her ten year old sister, Mary, and seven year old brother, Charles. If only her older brother Ralph hadn't left home! But it's up to Agnes now to make decisions, and pray that everything goes right. I highly reccomend this book.

Esperanza Rules!!!!
This book is amazing! I have read all the other books in the Spirit collection, but this one is the best. I like these books because they are about wild horses. Esperanza is a palomino(and Spirit's dam), so she is my favorite. ESPERANZA RULES!!!!!
A Very Good Book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this series. I loved how the author took it from the horses point of view and not the humans view like so many other books have done in the past.
I hope Kathleen Duey ( the author) will keep writing!
I recomend this is a good book for any horse crazy people ( and the other books too!).

Another great book from the Survival series.
Most people think it's odd that Garrett Wood and Molly Bride are best friends. The place is Mississippi, the year 1927, and Garrett is white while Molly is black. But they ignore what everyone else says and remain friends. They're united in their dreams of getting away from their dreary lives on cotton farms. For some time now they've been saving money in a jar in the bayou. When the rising waters of the Mississippi threaten to put the bayou underwater, Garrett and Molly set out on their little homemade raft to retrieve the money. But instead, they end up being swept down the river. They encounter dangerous currents filled with debris, poisonous snakes, and storms. Their journey will truly test their courage and friendship. An excellant survival story with historical details about life in the south in the 1920s.
Another exciting, page turning Survival! book.
Molly Bride and Garrett Wood are both from poor families barely making a living on Mississippi cotton farms in 1927. Molly and Garrett dream of getting away from Mayersville, their little home town. So for three years, they've been saving up nickels and pennies and hiding them in a secret place. But the rising, raging Mississippi threatens the money, and Molly and Garrett go to retrieve it. But the current wins, and they find themselves headed up the turbulent Mississippi on a little homemade raft. Can Molly and Garrett survive? I couldn't put this book down! The part with the water moccasin was so scary, I felt as if I was there. A very, very exciting book!

great
This was a good American Diaries book. I really like the main character Maddie. if I had a horse, I would want to keep it safe from yankees, although i'm a Yankee.I really like what she does to help the Yankee. i would tell more but I don't want to ruin the book for others. All I'll say is it was a great book and if you like the other American Diaries then you'll like this one.
A southern girl makes an important discovery.
Of all the American Diaries books, Maddie Retta Lauren was my favorite. I really liked the main character, Maddie, a thirteen-year-old Confederate girl. At the beginning she seemed a bit spoiled, but by the end of the book she had definitley changed. She realized that both the Northerners and the Southerners were fighting for what they believed in, and that slavery was wrong. I liked the ending as well because it seemed very realistic to me. I highly reccomend this book to girls ages nine and up looking for a good historical novel.

Magical
These books are gems!!!
Heart is a true hero, a good-hearted girl finding her way along a difficult path, learning own strength. Readers will be happily drawn into her journey as she discovers herself and the magical world around her.
I loved this series. I only wish I still had small children to read it with! That said, my teenage daughters loved the books too.
Irresistible
My 8-year-old niece loved this book and so did I. It has all the elements of enchantment--abandoned orphan girl, cruel guardian, hints of a mysterious, perhaps even royal, past and, of course, unicorns--even a baby unicorn. But I particularly enjoyed the tone and style of the book. It's appealing and fun, but it isn't overly sweet. As my niece said, "It isn't silly." It's set in a realistic medieval world that gives added emphasis to the daring efforts of Heart, the main character, to save the unicorns. I guess the book is designed for beginning readers, but it didn't seem simple or like it was talking down.
We can't wait for the third book in the series!

great
A great American Diarie book. Although at times it got a little boring, the book was exciting at times. I never really knew what the test were like when people came in to America but this book tells you. Nell is scared the Granny rose won't pass the tests. if she doesn't, then Nell will have to go back to Ireland and may never see her father. A good book.
An excellant addition to the series.
Nell Dunne is scared. She and her mother, baby sister, older brother, and grandmother have endured the long journey from Ireland to the United States to be reuinted with her father after two long years. But before they can rejoin him, they will have to go through Ellis Island. Nell is worried that her grandmother, who is weak and forgetfull, will not pass the inspection. If Granny Rose fails the inspection, Nell will have to accompany her back to Ireland to care for her, and she will never see her father. This book was a detailed account of what a young girl coming to America might have encountered on Ellis Island in the early 1900s. I highly reccomend this excellant addition to the American Diaries series.
