Great Teacher Resource!
I bought this book for a first-year teacher in my English department and ended up using it myself for a full month before finally handing it over! Then I had to go back and buy two more, one for myself and one for a friend who'd heard me raving about it! Do yourself...and your students...a favor and get this book.

Teaching writing has never been easier!
I bought this book thinking I would use it once or twice ayear...now I find myself needing a new copy since I've worn the old one out! My students love the easy format of the books and how fun finishing off a story can be. From beginning to end, this book has something for every teacher...and student!

Good book, but more than a programmer needs to know
I read this book because the JavaWorld editor recommended it. I found the first 4 chapters to be very good. However, after that it got into issues that were relavent only to people creating Java Programming environments (like Symantec and Borland). I wish the author had spent more time on the basic concepts used by programmers. Needs richer example code in this area.

It is overpriced for a programmer.

Excellent resource
I'm the JavaBeans columnist for JavaWorld, and I heartily recommend this book. The section that compares various component technology, while very well-written, does so at a very high level. This book focuses on JavaBeans technology and is excellent for developers or technical management. For an in-depth comparison of various component frameworks, though, in my opinion you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

This review is my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the views of JavaWorld or IDG Books.

Frisky fashion fun!
I'm not much into fashion, but ever since I got this book for a great birthday present, I've been paying just a little bit more attention to what I put on in the morning. Still, this book isn't just about fashion--it's about fun. From funky Top-5 Lists to clever personal anecdotes from fashion victims, it's perfect reading for this normally boring subject. Give it to someone you love, instead of that awful tie!

Frisky fun for singles--and couples!
My review copy of this one has more dog ears than the local kennel, and even though I'm married I'll be using the romantic tips I've bookmarked to keep my husband guessing...and smiling. Great fun mixed with romantic tips and seductive seductions means you can't go wrong with this light, romantic reading. Give it to, or read it for, someone you love right now!

Take a trip to Funsville!
The perfect lighthearted fare for this summer's, or any season's, trip to anywhere. Full of helpful facts and just enough fun to keep you giggling on every plane, train, or automobile, you'll want to keep reading it long after the vacation is over. I did!

Colonial and Revolution Songs With Historical Narration (American History Through Folksong)

A Fresh Breath of Realistic Relief from Disneyized History
Short and informative narritive between songs which is neither overly long nor sickenly sweet. The numbers all tend to be plain in the style of the day. The vocal arrangement could use a little more variety. But while the voices are not Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, they are certainly adequate and pleasant to listen to. It is well worth the price.

as important as calling 911
This is the first book I've ever seen that clearly and directly points out the value of knowing how to handle emergency situations AFTER calling the paramedics, BEFORE they arrive. In high-stress situations we forget, we judge poorly, we shut down, or we may panic. Scala's first-hand experience as an EMS veteran cuts to the chase with stories of memorable and informative calls. You can relate to the victims and to the paramedic as well. Great for older individuals, teachers and anyone who finds herself in the role of caretaker. Easy reading with tips to use.

Wanted to hear more!
The audio version is very well read. I was afraid it would drag, but when I finished the 6th tape, I wanted to know more about Jerry and his horse, Fan. Who did Jerry marry? Did he have cowboy sons of his own? Did Fan become a stunt horse? Read the reviews of the printed version to learn more about the story; I don't want to give any of it away. It is a wonderful odyssey tale for anyone who loves the wide-open spaces of America. There is an interesting link to the "Lonesome Dove" saga and Charlie Goodnight.

OK on wells, but weak on septic systems.
Much of the same comments I made about the "Builder's Guide to Wells and Septic Systems" apply to this book. Although oriented more towards a home owner-builder rather than a professional home builder, it still lacks detail on septic systems. There is no discussion of sand mounds, which account for about 90% of all installations in my region of PA, or other alternative system types. About 1/3 of the book relates to septic systems and the balance to well and water systems.

If you are interested mainly in wells, this is probably not a bad choice. If your desire is to design your own septic system, then I think this book is lacking.

A textbook on wells and septic systems
Book reads like a textbook. However, very detailed information provides good fundamental knowledge of the topic.
