a story of hope.
Very easy reading. Like listening to someone tell a story. It deals with pain, adversity, descent into addiction and then, with help and willingness, overcoming the odds to be a productive, happy menber of society. I would recommend this book to anyone with an alcohol addition and/or a disability. It is truly inspiational.

This book was very easy to read and after I started it I couldn't put it down. As a alcoholic I found it hit right at home. Anyone who is disabled will find this book very helpful.I recommend this book to everyone.

Incredible Story
This book held me captive throughout. It was the first book that I read all in one day. I just couldn't put it down.

Can't wait for the movie!!!!!

You think it couldn't happen to you... but your wrong.
I found out about this book the summer of 2002 from the Epilepsy Foundation of America. It could so easily be my story and very nearly is.... Patient rights need to be protected but so often they are ignored. I was committed after refusing a feeding tube, but then denied medical care for my status episodes of seizures and migraines while in the Psych Ward. Nobody can ever explain what it is like to happen to you, but Carol Gino comes close. Everyone needs to read this story and then go to your lawyer and get a medical power of attorney assigned to someone you trust. Protect yourself anyway you can. This story may scare you, but in the long run you need to protect yourself. Know that you have rights. Also, know that there is always someone worse off than you, and that you must always have hope. I did, and I survived...

It's an Old Sage
The patient asks. "How will I know if I'm crazy." And the doctor answers, "If you can ask that question you are probably OK." But what if you ask and there is no one listening? Or what if your body is doing things that scare people and you have no control over it? That is exactly what happens in this true story, "Rusty's Story". There isn't any fairy tale ending. This is real life. All there is is hope. I like that.

Excellent book about misunderstood or misdiagnosed epilepsy
Rusty has epilepsy, but neither her family nor her caretakers are willing to accept this diagnosis. This book chronicles the life of a young woman who was denied the chance to live normally even though her condition is easily treatable. Even Rusty herself had misconceptions about epilepsy and what could be done for her condition. A must read for patient advocates, medical ethicists, and people who want to know more about the history of epilepsy treatment. Reading level: College/Adult. Warnings: small amount of violence. Reader considers this book very *emotionally provoking*. Reader also considers this one of her favorite books.

get this, think about the rest later
when this book used to be out of print, legions of ambitous tap dancers - including myself - were searching used-book stores across the country to find a copy. i know some who ended up copying every single page in the lincoln center library. the reason is very simple: there is no other book on the subject that even comes close to gathering this much information on the history of tap dancing. even though historians may argue about some details, the book is usually considered the standard by all the tap pros i know and whoever reads it will have a good understanding of where the art form comes from, what the important issues are, what stages of development tap dancing went through, who the important dancers of different times and styles were, and what the characteristics of different styles and approaches in tap dance are. if you want to know about the history of tap: get this book. otherwise you will find yourself digging through the shelves of rare book stores when it is out of print again.

Great teaching tool
This is a fantastic book! In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I made my college advanced tap class read it, as well. They were truly inspired by this book and have gained a renewed since of determination as far as entering the field of "commercial entertainment" with an emphasis on tap. Each person has a truly unique account of how it was back in the day, when people actually went to "tap clubs" just like we would go to dance clubs nowadays. What an experience to see this exciting time through their eyes.

Not just for tap dancers!
This book is wonderfully written with first-hand accounts about show business during the first half of the 1900's. It is not just for tap dancers, but for anyone interested in getting a feel for the way of life during that period. The amount of information I learned about vaudeville, movie musicals, and even black history in America is much more than I expected when I picked up this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Excellent book on a top notch Nascar Driver
For all you Rusty fans and those who are not, this is a must read book. Received my copy during the holiday time and I could not put the book down. A lot of information about Rusty Wallace and how he got his start into Nascar.

Great photographs. A book you will not put down.

A MUST HAVE!
If you are a Rusty Wallace fan this is one you have 2 own. His last book RACER has long been out of print and Decision to Win has it beat. Great photography! Photos from the time Rusty was a young kid up 2 today. Almost every question you could ask about Rusty, his career and family are answered. Get it now before it goes out of print 2!

Wonderful book...
I only received this book yesterday, and as of this moment, I have about 15 pages left. It was impossible to put down, as it contained so many little-known facts about Rusty, Kenny, Mike and the rest of the people close to Rusty. Family and friends contributed many photos, old and new. There is so much about Rusty Wallace that you'll never know unless you read this book. The whole Wallace family was fully engulfed in the world of racing, and "Rusty Wallace - The Decision to Win" is a rare opportunity to take a peek inside the box of memories that was Rusty. A wonderful, wonderful read. The book's format is also very nice, and is a lot bigger in size than I expected. This book definitely will not be spending any time on a bookshelf. This book needs to be displayed on my coffee table! A must have for any RACE fan. Rusty Wallace fan, or not. It's a fascinating look at the struggles and triumphs along the road to where Rusty is today. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

an inspirational mirror to the soul.
Rusty has a way of bringing you home to yourself. It's a wonderful book for teenagers and adults. The book concentrates on acceptance of you for the person you are. How it's possible to love, dislike, not believe and believe all at the same time and in the same moment.

I have given this book on several occassions, to a teenager struggling with her identity, and an adult struggling to find hers.

A book I gave to my therapist as a Christmas gift. It meant so much to me to share Rusty's words. I am sorry it's out of print, I have tried ordering,no luck. I almost gave my copy away!!

A simple, easy book for the Soul
Appearances is an extraordinary book in that it joins words and images in a simple yet powerful book. This book speaks to everyone, regardless of the point they are in their lives. As an example, the opening words are:, "Wherever you are at this moment is exactly where you are supposed to be, no matter how things may appear." and includes my favorite, among many favorites: "The dignity the world awards you is in exact proportion to the dignity you award yourself". Very wise and beautifully illustrated book. I wish I could order five more. Lucia Duncan

Considering a tractor project? Better read this book!<BR><P>
Sometimes the truth hurts so bad that you just have to laugh.

I had a hard time putting this book down once I started reading. I felt Rog's pain every time he related breaking a part or smashing a finger, and shared his satisfaction with small successes.

He tells the story of the Woodpecker's resurrection with a style and wit that is down to earth; none of the "holier than thou" point of view that's found in so many other books on tractor restoration. This book is not a technical manual, and doesn't pretend to be. It's the simple, real life story of one man's victory over a piece of broken down junk.

I found it be very enjoyable reading, and would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the lighter side of life.

The Essence of Tractor Restoration

Roger Welsch's long awaited second book on tractor restoration has finally appeared. This one was written during his restoration of "Woodpecker" an old unstyled Allis Chalmers WC. The tractor was given to him by a friend after being salvaged from a remote wood lot where it had been left to die many years earlier. This was a restoration he undertook on a dare, to prove he could do it. He did it for the fun of it. Roger doesn't work at restoring tractors, he plays and learns. He finds neat little lessons all over his shop.

The book is log of his restoration efforts. He hopes to provide a newcomer with a guide of just how to expect things might go with a tractor restoration. It is full of mechanical tips and techniques as well as addressing the spiritual aspects of tractor work. He shows us how time in the shop can be healing, even when it might not appear overtly productive. His focus on the process of restoration, rather than the end results, guides his time in shop and shapes his attitude toward the whole project. Learning is not just a goal unto itself, it is also a great reason to buy even more new tools.

Many books tell us how tractors are restored, but only Roger seems to address the question of "why" tractors are restored. He truly portrays the "restoration as adventure" aspect of the hobby. The nature of the friendships that can form around this hobby is also reported.

What's different about this book? Roger Welsch examines the Zen or "head part" of tractor rebuilding. What else is different is that this book includes a lot about the wrong way to do things. The best lessons are learned from mistakes, and Roger isn't afraid to share with us how much he has learned. Additionally, he doesn't assume the reader knows as much as most of the shop manuals seem to assume. Many excellent mechanical tips can be picked up from this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it makes me look forward to my next tractor project.

This book explains how we manifest our fate
I *love* this book & think everyone should read it just once! It takes some complex ideas and translates them with an easy to understand conversational style that pulls no punches. It explains how we create the realities in our lives with our perceptions. Then it details how those perceptions affect our world and outlines what we can do to make it a better place for everyone. I love the art work and its simple description of neurosis. Best of all, this book just make you feel good.

I love this book!
Thank you Rusty Berkus. Your work always makes me feel great!

it was fun

Build a better dog with this book!
How I Built Rusty is a clever creativity book which shows kids how to build their own cardboard dog, while treating them to a fetching tale about a kid named Wilbur whose parents won't let him get a dog. You guessed it--Wilbur builds his own dog from scratch! I liked this book because it applies reading and creativity. Kids read along with story rhymes and learn to follow instructions to put together their own 3-D dog, Rusty.

Cartoon-style illustrations makes this book a fun read. Your kids will also get hands-on learning as they push tabs into slots, and pay close attention to directions.

No glue, scissors, or power tools required other than an active imagination. Just remember you can't walk this dog or take it swimming. It's paper!

This book would make a great gift for younger kids (grades 2-5) and makes for a fun rainy day project. Don't be surprised if Rusty the dog takes up a prominent space on your child's bookcase.

Building Rusty can be a great bonding moment for parents and kids.Parents can take this book to the next level by creating their very own recycled art project out of junk with their kids! No rust required, just a good dose of imagination!

A Letter to Good Old Dad.
This delightful little book puts into words why children love their Dad. I gave this book to my father as a birthday gift and it delivered a message of love much more eloquently than any Hallmark card.

love you daddy
What I like about is that when Katies father died in world war 2 its a sad. Because their are 2 more books and when she is 11 years old and 12. That's why you should read this book.

A wonderful traveler's guide!
This book is an excellent resource to take on the road with you to Massachusetts.! Great pictures with easy to follow directions. I personally used it on a trip last summer and saw most of the lights in the book! Highly recommended.

This book has it all!
This book contains lots of color pictures as well as histories and travel directions. I found it extremely useful as a guidebook and it has made a nice souvenier of a recent trip to some of the lights featured.
