Hidden Southwest
I purchased this book in order to plan a 6 week trip to New Mexico and Arizona. If you want a book that will clearly and intelligently tell you about everything in these two states, this is a good option. Unfortunately, this book isn't very helpful in prioritizing sites. For example, I'm sure every single indian pueblo is listed, but it's difficult to tell which ones are worth allocating time to. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent book, but, if this is your first visit to the area, you will need a more opinionated book to help you sift though the many, many sightseeing options.

Best places to stay
I had earlier editions of this book and just loved them. We found the best places to stay, motels and bed and breakfasts that are really special, at a great price. I used this book for planning many trips to the Southwest, for myself and friends, and it was always a great experience. It is the best reference books on places to eat and to stay, phone numbers of attractions etc. You can find every place in the Southwest. However, I would still use another travel guide for more detailed information about e.g. national parks and monuments or specific hiking tips.

An Oversimplified View Of A Very Complex Man
While authors Cohen and Taylor ceaselessly document Daley's racism and political power, they explain almost nothing about his family or his true feelings. It is a very shallow, one-sided portrait of someone who was anything but simple. Daley ran the city of Chicago extremely well for many years, but most of the book deals with housing and racism. As a longtime Chicagoan, I was very disappointed with this book. I wanted to know what made Daley tick; this book did not tell me. There was nothing in this book that I couldn't have learned from other sources.

A Real Disappointment
I got this book hoping for somthing akin to Caro's biographies of Moses and LBJ, and was very disappointed. The authors are more concerned with segregated housing in Chicago, and the civil rights movement - they appear to make no effort to understand or explain Daley the person or what made him tick. Just page after boring page on the unfairness of segregated housing and how racist Daley was. This could use some "truth in packaging" - I would not have bought and read a book on the struggle for "fair housing" and civil rights in Chicago, and it needs a label "WARNING - Authors despise Irish Catholics and smugly look down on them". I agree that, while Royko's bio of Daley is not the efinitive one, it is at least readable and entertaining compared to this diatribe.

The Prototype Boss
American Pharaoh is simply an outstanding description of both the man and the city in the middle of the 20th century. Having grown up in Chicago, and lived there thru 1970 (experiencing the '68 convention as a young adult of leftish persuasion), I found the book to be factually accurate, with the exception of a few small details, and more important an extremely well-written account of strivers after power, and how nearly absolute power can be both used and abused. On balance anti-Daley, the authors nonetheless have indicated his contributions to the city, particularly with regard to its continued (and continuing) commercial and residential viability. It is fair to say that the Chicago which exists today is a far more vibrant, tolerant and cosmopolitan city than the one I grew up in, and that without Daley's influence, it would almost certainly not exist. Whether these developments were intended or unintended consequences of Daley policy is, of course, an interesting question. What is not questionable is the high quality of Cohen and Taylor's work.

The Physics Quick Reference Guide

You need a reference guide to make sense of this book!
It's been 10 years since I earned my physics BS, and all that knowledge has faded a bit. I wanted a book that could sit on my bookshelf at work that would have summary information that covered the gamut of physics: from simple mechanics to E&M and quantum. If this is also what you wanted, then this is not the book for you. This book is badly organized, the information it presents is badly laid out, and there are surprisingly few illustrations. That's not to say it's all bad. If the world were about to end and you could only take a few books with you on the spaceship you constructed from recycled aluminum cans and bottle rockets, then this book would probably be one to take. Just make sure you bring along H&R and other familiar texts to make sense of it.

Excellent, compact, handy reference
I'm a tech writer and programmer with a physics background. This reference is perfect for me. The formulas and constants are accessible and useful. The book is well-organized and packs all the info I need in 200 pages. If you don't want to lug the CRC around, try this book.

land of a thousand boo-boos
in the mid-90s i bought this book.... i found over 600 mistakes, then quit... mistakes of every imaginable type.... and these were internal mistakes, where the same information in the book was different in 2 different places... especially bad were the all-time and single season category listings in the back.. i wonder if things have improved?...---stolf---

The Best I've Seen Despite a Few Errors
This guide contains a wealth of information not easy to find in other sources. It is good at providing historical individual stats, but particularly good at providing comprehensive historical TEAM stats, which I find surprisingly hard to come by. There are a few mistakes and a few stats that s/b added (like time of possession where available), but overall the best of its kind made. Too bad it appears to no longer be published annually. (Also, the cover of the last edition was thinner and less durable than in prior editions.)

A must for any serious NFL fan
Forget about it-- no more arguments, this book has it all, the history, players, scores and stats in the NFL and AFL since 1960. There are updated editions available, but they only cover the league since 1972. Nearly 800 pages in an 8.5" x 11" format, you won't be dissatisfied. Buy this one if you can find it and buy the updated edition for the recent seasons. A fantastic sports encyclopedia.

Coming Out Straight : Understanding and Healing Homosexuality

Suffering Parents Come Out of the Closet
Richard Cohen's brilliant book shows the TRUTH about homosexuality - it's not innate, nor benign, nor unchangeable. Even a famous gay rights activist like Andrew Sullivan (who writes for the New York Times Magazine Section) admits that Freud was right when he called homosexuality "arrested sexual development." Those misinformed about this subject should read Andrew Sullivan's latest book, "Love Undetectable," in which he honestly discusses his extensive research about homosexuality and his inevitable conclusion that Freud was right. Sullivan admits that five years of extensive psychotherapy would probably be enough for many individuals to transition to heterosexuality. Why is this information being "BLACKED-OUT" by the media? It is tragic to know that the average homosexual male dies 30 years earlier than the average heterosexual male - how can this possibly be a normal lifestyle? Why doesn't the therapeutic and medical community care about these men and how can they possibly believe this self-destructive lifestyle is caused by homophobia? EVERY parent I know who has a homosexual child deals with almost unbearable pain when they think of their child's lifestyle. Many say, "What can I do? I have to accept it." Now, because of brave men like Richard Cohen, there is something the parents can do. Buy Mr. Cohen's book for everyone they know and buy a copy for their library. There is hope but only if grieving parents speak the truth - parents must come out of their closet - the world needs to learn the truth - homosexuals can and do change. We need more and better therapies to help those unhappy with the false identity of homosexuality - not a politically correct steam roller which flattens anyone who speaks out about the unfulfilling nature of same-sex relationships. Our common sense tells us that G-D, nature, and evolution all point to the male and female design of all the animal kingdom - humans are no exception! Let's reach out with love and help those who struggle with same-sex attractions and teach their families that homosexuality is a family problem, not an individual problem - no parent should ostracize a homosexual child because the parent was inadvertently a part of the problem in the first place. Family healing is imperative and Richard Cohen points the way.

Hooray for Richard Cohen
5 stars! Reviewer: Diane from VA. (a former lesbian) Hoorah for Richard Cohen and thank you for your courage, Dr. Laura! I found the book to be insightful, informative and inspiring to those who continue to struggle not only with their own sexuality but with all of the misinformation these hurting individuals are being bombarded with, i.e. unscientific data. I too grappled with SSAD (same sex attachment disorder) as I lived nearly 40 of my 48 years in a homosexual lifestyle. Looking nearly 20 years for the "magic pill" to make me straight (as I also thought it was genetic) and in a deep depression, I ended up on a psychoanalyst's couch for 1 1/2 years. She told me what I didn't want to hear - that it was okay (OKAY? ) to be "gay." How can the educated science community be so pompous and shallow? Where was all the information she could have provided me that was contained in Mr. Cohen's book? Most fortunately for me, I found the "magic pill" in God. I repented and prayed for God to take my SSAD - ness away from me. Unfortunately, there will always be an argument from the liberal society and the activist homosexuals as the book robs from their hope chest the very things they are searching for: acceptance, love and happiness. Instead, they have armed themselves with hate - mongering, slandering and self destruction. Being as honest as one can possibly be in the eyes of the Lord has anyone ever met a "gay" or happy homosexual? I haven't. They are always looking for love in "all the wrong places." Thank God for Mr. Cohen's brilliance and persistence.

Everyone should read this book!
This book is not just for those that suffer from a same-sex attraction disorder. This book is for everyone and should be part of your personal library. This book gets past all of the rumor, hype, disinformation, misdirected emotion, and hatred so often attached to the topic that we often lose sight of the fact that we're dealing with people that are hurting and need our love, compassion, understanding, and support. I would urge clergyman and layman alike to read this and fully understand the underlying causes of same-sex attraction disorders. The Church has done tremendous harm by persecuting the homosexual community instead of embracing it. We have alienated a population that needs our love and support, not our condemnation. We can hate the sin, but we MUST love the sinner. Richard Cohen provides clear, well-researched, and authoritative causes for same-sex attractions and offers proven techniques for healing homosexuality. He has lived it, experienced it, agonized through it and now wants to share with others what he has learned. I find it hard to believe all of the personal attacks against him that I've read in previous reviews. I have met him, shared with him, cried with him - he's not seeking to hurt or harm or gain personal recognition. His only aim is to educate all of us as to the underlying causes of same-sex attractions and how we can assist those struggling with the associated pain and alienation. Make this book part of your personal library today! Thank you Richard Cohen.

captivating reading
this book was a delight to read, even as an adult reader. The retelling of the ark story in this colourful, jocular and modern manner was just enchanting and my 5 year old enjoyed it immensely. Although I did feel it was really aimed at an older audience and it is on my christmas list for some of my relatives and friends children who are aged 11 and up. I think they will love it.

excellent book
a really good read for children and adults actually!

A humourous version of the classic bible story, Noah's Ark, with Noah as a brow beaten and henpecked husband with many views on modern environmental issues explored in a very entertaining manner.

We all enjoyed it in my family and it is definitely on my Christmas list.

Buy it and read it! see for yourself

A good reference, nothing more
This book is quite helpful in understanding the theory behind splines as well as algorithms that can be easily coded up. Multiple variants of spline algorithms are discussed and analyzed quite thoroughly. The book is, however, racked with many errors making it unsuitible for teaching yourself the material. Also the authors seemed to create the own notations that are quite different than those presented by others such as Gallier and deBoor. They also assume that you have a firm understanding in vector calculus and linear algebra. All in all, not a bad book assuming descent mathematical background and the extensive erratta sheet that I'm sure someone has compiled.

Repulsive
This book is repulsive, misleading, and patently offensive. My heart goes out to gay and lesbian teens who are the unfortunate victims of molestation by a family member and then have their lives further complicated and confused by this kind of trash.

This is CHILD ABUSE!!
The author is using this book to advocate the discredited theory that a person can change their sexual orientation through reparative therapy. Both APA's have denounced this so-called "therapy." There is not a single (much less a body of research) peer-reviewed article that proves that such therapy really does what it claims.

Cohen, and his modern-day snake-oil salesmen, consistently refuse to subject their "theraputic methods" to scientific review and standards. Even those that have claimed to have been "cured" admit to having sexual feelings toward the same-sex (eg: John Paulik, etc.). That does not sound like a "cure" to me!

This book, based on unethical and immoral practices, should never reach the hands of children. As a parent, I will make sure my son never sees this book!

Hopeful and helpful
This is a wonderful and rare book that offers encouragement and hope to young boys who may be experiencing unwanted sexual attraction to other boys or men. It is also helpful for any boy who may have been molested. I have been a teacher for 35 yrs and also do private counseling. This is the only book on this subject that I am aware of to date that doesnt tell a child that he must be gay and just has to accept it.
