R. Yahuda Halavi pomes brought me to tears
The Rabbi's words left me in tears. From his sole jerling prayes of peantice to his longing for Jresulm. It dosnt read like a 12 centery work eather- for the most part it's comptly undsatadable.

The only draw back is that seavel of his reluouse pomes are a bit esotric- as would be exaped by a 12 centery Spaish Rabbi, and as far as I can tell this coltaion is a enligh tranlation of a Greaman coppay from the Orailal Hebrew. (I think the oranail was in hebrew). Some of the vearse - line ogantion seems a bit odd;and some pomes are better then others.

But even with this factored in it's a encadable coations from one of Jewdism most skilled poets/rabbi/phlospers. Every bit as relvent now as they were 800 years ago. Very few books out there can tuch your sole like R. Halevi's poetery.Secntly very few are as humaman.

One finle note however- becaful looking for the or any other book by him. Both Yahudau and Halevi are very coman names amongew the Jewish commity- and there's no standerized speeling. (Not in Enlisgh anyway.) The Librayain only found this book after much seacrching and cross reffranceing. To make matters worce one of the founding members of the fraild of Modern Anthopgy caryies the same name.

In addtion some of the publishers footnotes were quite helpful.

Horn missed the point!
If you have a child of any age, ignore Horn's review and get this book! Maybe if enough people try to get it used, they'll bring it out of the graveyard and reprint this charming and exceptionally well-written and touchingly illustrated book. This book's message of caring, forgiveness, dedication, and love comes out every time I read this with my children! The fancifulness of the story only reinforces the important message within, and makes the heartbreaking conflict in the middle that much more redemptive in the end! If you want to know what's wrong with our society, it's that books this good don't get read to every kid by their parents! This one ranks among the top stories for kids of all time, and should be given it's due. Do yourself and your kids a favor and GET THIS BOOK!

Students Resolving Conflict: Peer Mediation in Schools

Students Resolving Conflict: Peer Mediation in Schools
I've been in the mediation field and training since 1991 and this is by far the best, most comprehensive and well organized book available. The nitty gritty of mediation has been well thought out and presented in a way that is straightforward and practical. The school environment can be a tricky one in which to implement mediation, but the scope of forms, advice and practical experience makes this guide a "can't do without" item. I highly recommend it to anyone serious about starting, improving or trouble-shooting a peer mediation effort in any setting. If all schools used this guide, peer mediation would be a feature of our school culture, not an oddity of progressive and safer schools.

An early but central exposition of L.'s ethical metaphysics.
TIME AND THE OTHER was first presented as a series of lectures in 1946/47 at the College Philosophique, in the intellectually charged atmosphere of post-war Paris. Along with EXISTENCE AND EXISTENTS it represents the first book length formulation of Levinas's own philosophy of ethical metaphysics. It is not only a clear statement of his thought but is focused on the central issue of modern and contemporary philsopohy: the meaning and role of time. This volume also includes two important articles by Levinas on time, "The Old and the New" (1980) and "Diachrony and Representation" (1983). Reviewed by Richard A. Cohen (translator)

a must have
Nagel's article is essential for serious students of military ethics. It is a thoughtful essay that takes on kant, utilitarianism, moral rationalization, and moral decision making. The conclusion is Kantian: right actions, and not deliberating consequences.

The Love Drug: Marching to the Beat of Ecstasy (Haworth Therapy for the Addictive Disorders)
Published in Hardcover by Haworth Press (1998)
Author: Richard S. Cohen
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

An Easy-to-read Resourceful Volume about the drug, Ecstasy
I have been hearing about the drug, Ecstasy, in the news lately. It has been described by some as being a "medical miracle", and by others as "potentially deadly". I decided to find out about this drug and further my knowledge with regard to the behind-the-scenes of what's going on surrounding this substance. I ordered a copy of "The Love Drug", by Richard Cohen. I found the book to be to be incredibly informative. I found myself learning more and more tid bits about the drug as I turned every next page. I was surprised to see that this drug Ecstasy was once actually legal, and actually patented in the early part of the twentieth century. I was intrigued by the legal testimony surrounding Ecstasy, which the author describes in detail. The book also discusses the connection between rave or circuit parties and MDMA. It's obvious, as the author portrays, that this drug is much more than a passing fad. I recommend this book highly to those wishing to further their familiarity with this rather fascinating compound. The chapter concerning adverse reactions will raise a few eye brows of those who use.

A Timely Book For Everyone
Whether one is interested in the chemical configuration of Ecstasy, the chemistry involved in manufacturing the pill, or how Ecstasy emerged upon the rave scene-- you will find THE LOVE DRUG to be useful. I particularly enjoyed learning about the many legislative facets that have never before been revealed leading up to the banning of Ecstasy. The book describes something that was unbenownst to me in that Ecstasy was legal up until 15 years ago, and used within psychotherapy. The book also delves into the rave event or circuit parties pointing out the intimate relationship between such parties and Ecstasy. The book is definitely well-researched, and very resourceful for anyone trying to go behind the scenes to truly learn about this rather tempting drug. The chapter pertaining to adverse reactions will sure make people think twice about experimenting with the substance. Of course there are chances and risks that we take throughout our life. But at the same time; internal bleeding, convulsions, hyperthermia, kidney failure, and liver damage don't sound too inviting either. The fisthand accounts of ravers and individuals who have had medical trauma keeps one glued to the book.

An important addition to your personal library
The Love Drug is an easy-to-read factual book containing several hundred references in the bibliography section. Undoubtedly, the book provides an enormous overview of the drug 'ecstasy'. The quotes are interesting and swiftly reveal just what it is that people find to be so alluring about the substance. The side-effects are also depicted, hence, leaving the reader well aware of the mosaic of symptoms that may occur following ecstasy usage. Overall, the book is written in an impartial way. The author nevers surrenders his own opinions, which makes the book all the more fun-reading, allowing us to form our own opinions without having ideas forced upon us. The Love Drug is by far the best book availabe for people, like myself, interested in learning more about this very unique compound- {ecstasy}.
