A New Meaning of Thanksgiving
Molly's Pilgrim is an excellent story of the true meaning of Thanksgiving. Molly has just moved to America from Russia, and is not enjoying it one bit. Kids in her third grade class make fun of her all the time because of her clothes and accent. She can't stand it, especially her worst enemy, Elizabeth. When Molly's class starts a project on Thanksgiving, they are told to make a doll. When Molly tells her mother this, her mother makes a doll for her, and the doll looks exactly the way her mother did when she was a girl. Her mother tells her that the Pilgrims fled England because they wanted to practice their religion freely, this is exactly what Molly's parents did, making them Pilgrims. That day, Molly takes it to school, but it looks very different from everyone else's. The children make fun of her, but they have a very big lesson to learn; the true meaning of Thanksgiving. Anyone will enjoy this story, old or young, because many can relate to it.

The spirit of Thanksgiving is always with us.
The only negative thing I can think of to say about this book is that when I read it aloud, I have a very hard time not crying. It is a short and simple story (longer than a picture book, but an adult can read it aloud in one sitting, and most second or third graders could read it to themselves), but one of the most moving children's books I know of.

Molly is a turn of the century Jewish immigrant girl from Russia. She lives in a small town, where no one understands her, and other children make fun of her clothes, and accent and her ignorance of American customs. In November, her classmates are appalled that she has never heard of Thanksgiving. But as we get to know Molly better, we, and eventually her classmates, realize that this child, who left her country and moved to America so that she and her family could practice their religion without fear is no different from the first pilgrims.

By the time they reach second or third grade, most children have heard the story of the first Thanksgiving many, many times. This is a wonderful way to renew the meaning of the story for them, by reminding them that people are still coming to American for the same reasons they came hundreds of years ago.

Molly's Pilgrim
Mrs. Stickly asks the class to make a pilgrim for Thanksgiving. Molly's mother makes one that looks like her. Mollys Pilgrim is a great book! At the end Molly understands that being different isn't bad. by Barbara Cohen

A book about Civil War ghosts
If you like to read ghost stories you should read this book.
This book is about ghosts from the Civil War. Some of the stories are scary . Probably the best story is called "The Many Ghosts of Abraham Lincoln." This book should be read because it tells how Abe Lincoln was killed. That is why I think you should read this book.

Great Teaching Tool
This book is incredible. My students loved hearing the multiple tales of hauntings from the Civil War. My students actually wrote to a few places that were mentioned in the book and received impressive replies. Thumbs up!

Passionate and Spooky ghosts
I like this book because it tells weird but true ghost stories. I also like the end of each story it gives places and addresses you can visit. Also phone numbers you can call for more information. Some of the stories are of love and hate. Some stories gave me chills.

Headless Roommate and Other Tales of Terror

Fright Fest!
This book gave me so many hours of happiness (and fear!)as a teenager -- scary to think that that was about 12 years ago. The stories are urban legends that you may have heard before, but updated for the time period in which it was written (mid-80's). There's a scary story about babysitting, one about going on a date, having roommates...you name the teenage experience, there's a scary story for it in this book. I remember reading this under the covers with a flashlight and being terrified -- there is plenty of gore to go around, but put within a real enough context that it will send shivers down your back.

I highly recommend this book to teenagers of today who may enjoy the R.L. Stine books, or to any of you Gen-Xers out there who want to relive a piece of your youth. Great book!!!!!!!!

the headless roommate
i thought this was the ultimate in terror i wish i could find a copy to buy i loved it!!!!

Horror at its best!!
This book contains heartstoping, body cringing stories such as the title story The Headless Roommate, and others The Furry Collar, The Boyfriend's Death, The Man in the Back Seat, Frat Man and the infamous The Hook. Other than Helen Hoke you can't can't get more suspensful and frightning than these stories. Danial Cohen is the MAN! Even though it's a hard to find book, it's well worth the search.

500 Hundred Stars!!
I LOVE this book. It is wonderful. It covers people, places, and Things, all the famous mysteries, like Atlantis, the Man in the Iron Mask, and Nostradomus, and not so famous, like American Elephants, and the Titanic Prophesey, and so many others. Buy this book any way you can!!

I LOVE this Book!
I bought this book several years ago, and have been in love with it ever since. I read it at least twice a year. All 101 stories are short, to the point and extreamly interesting. The stories are divided up into three catagories, People, Places, and Things. I need to buy another copy because I'm wearing mine out. I don't know what I'd do with out it!

Great Book
I once picked up this book at a library, and I became facinated with it. It shows all the grand mysteries of the world. It is very interesting to hear about strange things that accur in the world, on of my favorite tales is of the "Nazca Lines", which is a grand mystery. This book keeps you informed of the natural and unnatural. It may be a little scarry but this book is a very good book, If it was up to me i'll give it Infinite stars.
(but the maximum is 5), so if you happen to come accross this book buy it, or read it. I bought it used becuase it seems that the this book is not available anymore

Thank you,

I loved this book! I am a true horror movie/book fan. This was a great book and I recommend it to all like me. I purchased this book when I was in the 4th grade and I graduated high school this past year. I still love reading my book!

PHONE CALL FROM A GHOST
This book is so great. I have read it so many times because I think these kinds of things are cool. My fave story in this book was the one about the Hermit, it was amazing, but I believe it. If you like this book, and this sort of stuff, I think you should also read "CIVAL WAR GHOSTS" it's also a good book.

i liked this book
this was a good book.i read it 3 times.

Impeachment Of Wm J. Clinton

The Impeachment of Bill Clinton: Everybody lost...
Ultimately, Daniel Cohen achieves his sense of balance in "The Impeachment of William Jefferson Clinton" by finding all the parties involved guilty of something. The Republican party was able to take advantage of competing standards in being critical of Clinton's behavior, applying a legal standard to his political behavior and a political standard to his legal actions. In a similar fashion Cohen uses various standards to find fault with one and all, which, I dare say, is a position most young readers can readily buy into.

In 1998 the U.S. House of Representatives voted for two articles of impeachment against President Clinton: committing perjury and obstructing justice. Clinton was acquitted by the U.S. Senate after a brief trial, but Cohen is well aware that the story involves much more than the Constitutional issues. Cohen presents the Monica Lewinsky scandal in the context of the "Character" issue that had followed Clinton throughout his run for the White House. Detailing the string of events that brought Lewinsky to the attention of Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr. Even though he is writing for a younger audience, Cohen pays attention to details: he points out the employee photograph of Lewinski from the Department of Defense was used because it was the only one available until journalists finally tracked her down. A small detail, but important because in the world of news images matter. The chapters in which Cohen details how the White House counterattacked the building story and the testimony that became the focal point of the impeachment effort.

During the whole impeachment affair I always like to read news magazines rather than newspapers, because I appreciated the sense of perspective that you get from something that comes out weekly rather than daily. Cohen certainly takes advantage of the persepctive time affords him. I also like the fact that Cohen does not let his objectivity stand in the way of being critical: he notes that Betty Currie, the president's secretary, would have been an obvious witness to call but that the impeachment managers did not want to have a string of black witnesses being questioned by white males. Again, I think this sort of detail speaks to the quality of this book.

Ultimately, the information in this book may enlighten, but it probably will not persuade anybody, mainly because everybody's mind is made up on this one. I remember thinking it was a big mistake for the U.S. Supreme Court to let lawyers go after a sitting U.S. President in a civil trial and when Clinton denied having "sexual relations" with Lewinski I immediately knew that he was ruling out intercourse, but not other things. Along with what happened in Florida, it was an interesting couple of years educating children about the wonderful world of politics in this country. Of course, I am not sure too many students are interested in beating this particular dead horse, but this is an excellent treatment of the sordid chapter of recent American history.

A Fair Tale
Extremely well-written in an unbiased telling of the facts, Cohen presents this entire scandal in "the best light possible." Told chronologically, he incudes black/white photos and documents that keep this book moving at an acceptable pace. A much appreciated addition to any school or public library, this will be a popular reference for any school project concerning Presidents. Readers are left to draw their own conclusions about the "charmed" life and bad choices of this U. S. President. You can't do much better than that, Mr. Cohen.

Helped Me Get Through HS
This was the only real gay themed book in my high school library. I remember reading it in the isles for a long time before I actually got the nerve to check it out. I gues sthe best part for me was the chapter with life stories. It sounds very cliche, but at that age for everything, gay or whatever, it always feels like your the only one and this made me feel a little better about myself. I highly recommend it for HS kids struggling with their own identity or friends trying to deal with homosexuality of their peers.

Excellent book for a person struggling with gay stereotypes.
This is a very good book that answers many questions that people have about the gay lifestyle. It is worth spending the time reading or giving to someone that is having problems dealing with the fact that you are gay. It answers many of the misconceptions of religion, cross-dressers, gay relationships, and AIDS. It is a good resource for a gay person who has friends that are having problems dealing with people accepting them

Discursive presentation. Helpful for novices.
The book has one important attribute: it's clear, undoubtedly. Having a minimum of prerequisites, I think there's no way to not understand what Prof. Cohen says through its pages. It makes the job of learning this part of theory easier than any other text.
But ... but I can't totally agree with Cohen's crusade against formalism. I agree that the first target of a book should be to clearly transmit the intended knowledge, and Cohen perfectly succeeds in this. But formalism too has its importance, thereafter. A compact and clear formalism helps to communicate efficiently, and moreover unambiguously. Like in mathematics, the first, important thing is to understand. Yet, there's no way for you to efficiently work with math without using any kind of formalism, should it be more or less "standard".
That's it: a very powerful book for a "profound" understanding of the subject; a bit more of natural formalism would make it a "complete" understanding also, and the book a five stars one.

Excellent
I must say this is one of the best books I have ever read. The auther is humorous and insightful. He manages to take very abstract concepts and explain them in clear concrete terms and metaphors.

Great Book!
This is a great book. I read the first edition many years ago, and it too was great. Everything is explained in order, and explained well - it is very accessable, even to the casual reader interested in the topics presented. It was through this book that I was able to actually write software that demonstrated Kleene's Theorem, (RE=NFA=DFA) converting between Regular Expressions, NFA's and DFA's.

Unlike many textbooks, reading this one is actually FUN. By the time I was done, I felt that I understood everything that was presented. That's how good this text is.

It creeps!
A wonderful book of paranormal collection, focusing on the subject of ghosts. Daniel Cohen's objective approach helped a lot in the accounts that are contained in this book, which is neither critical nor imposing that the stories aren't hoax whenever not proven as false. A fine little resource material for research in the study of the most popular cases of poltergeist, hauntings and phenomenons in the 'Spirit world', written in a concise and neat manner. Originally published in two volumes, the paperback contains the pages of pictures. Pretty good.

Great book to start with, or to add to your collection
Daniel Cohen is an incredibly prolific writer, with books spanning several topics. He has a lot of books on ghosts, aimed at all ages.

This book is a great resource... it examines nearly every famous ghost case and provides an objective look at all of them, without presenting an overly critical eye.

There are just as many instances where he applauds the stories for their elements (who the witnesses were) as well as presenting the facts as to why the veracity of certain stories should be questioned.

He also examines mediums and the popularity of ghosts in at the turn of the century. He has a great bibliography with even more resources for those who want to learn more, listing books from the turn of the century all the way up to the year before he published this book.

Great Book!!!
There is no better book than this to guide all ghost hunters to go to the right place, and what to do there. It is my first choice for whenever I feel like I want to read a book about ghosts (whitch I LOVE to do)!

a restless review
This book had some very interesting folklore from various countries. Personally I liked the stories, although they are somewhat for younger readers. If anybody can gather goulish stories from the other side Daniel Cohen is certainly the man.

You need to read this!!!!
The Restless Dead is a very suspenseful and interesting book and I recommend it to people who like to stay up late and tell ghost stories. It's not just one tale, so if you don't like certain types of stories you have a selection. One of the best stories was " The Stolen Liver." Another detail about this book is that if you have a weak stomach don't read a few of these stories, belive me they'll make you sick.

Deadly exciting tales
I highly recommend this book to readers that love trilling ghost tales,I read it over and over and never get tired of it! It makes you want to finish the book as soon as you start it! I've read other ghost novels by this author but none as thrilling as these tales of horror!
