Richard Armour's simple, entertaining book (with memorable illusrations by Leonard Everett Fisher) is a great introduction to American political history -- fun for the newcomer and the expert alike. Even many years later, whenever the name of an obscure President is mentioned, one of Mr. Armour's quotes is likely to pop to mind (such as, regarding Franklin Pierce, "the most that most remember, is that he was handsome," or of Eisenhower, "let Ike but grin that boyish grin, and those at outs with him were in," and dozens more). I've always wanted to thank Armour and Fisher for such a delightful book, and it's great this review gives me a chance to do so. Thanks guys!

I used this book when I served my Tool and Die Making apprenticeship thirty years ago, and I haven't seen its equal yet. Filled with practical examples of shop problems. There was also a volume 2: advanced. I have been searching for this for years. I now teach at a community college, and would use this if I could get volume two (includes the best section on compound angles that I have ever seen.)

Begin at page 3 and don't stop until page 219 and you will feel as exhausted as if you had just called "CUT! PRINT! That's a wrap!" It was thrilling to read this book. It is a working guide to carry around in either novice or professionals back pocket.

This wonderful collection of puppet scripts is perfect for ministering to children. With a whopping 82 scripts, you have a large selection of topics. Overall, this book is a winner!

This is a book of The X-Files episode "Leonard Betts". It is one of the scariest episodes, and the end of it leads to the revelation of Scully's cancer, which is obviously a very important event in the history of The X-Files, as any fan of the show will know. It is also hardback, which I greatly appreciated, and is well worth the money.

Nothing is more depressing than to see the American public endangering their health and wallets with bad or false medical information. Every day, some crack pot comes out with a new miracle cure, and the TV and news media cover this information uncritically. Public medical behavoir is usually based on the latest, ridiculous fad.

This book is a reliable source of down-to-earth, good old-fashioned medical advice. The author is an ex-hippie, ex-eye doctor media personality in the San Francisco Bay Area in northen California. He covers subjects like: media hokum, nutrition, weight, excercise, medical quackery, drug abuse, sex, and germs.

Before you start that next diet, buy that bottle of herbal medicine, or change your lifestyle based on the latest medical fad, buy this book.

Simply put: an essential survey/guide to the 1926-1936 era of (mainly) American sf. Bleiler has read _everything_ published in the magazines during this time period, gives a synopsis of the story, offers historical notes, and quite often comments on the importance (or lack thereof) of the story. David H. Keller comes in for some deadly bone-crushing comments. Bleiler has also tracked down biographical information, going so far as to search Social Security death records. And there's much more, far too much to list here.

Having read a fair number of these stories, his comments are quite accurate (most of what was published by Gernsback is awful dreck, but there were a few important stories published too).

If you have any interest in the this early era of SF this is an essential book for the shelf. And it's fun to read the plot summaries of some absolutely dreadful stories!

This book could be dubbed as the ethnography of Silicon Valley in the eye of anthropologist. This book seems outdated at first glance. It¡¯s two-decades-old, published in 1984. Since that time, so much has happened in the computer industry, the bread and butter of the Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley saw in the 1980s the era of microcomputer (PC) and in the 1990s the advent of the age of Internet. This book couldn¡¯t deal with those kind of events naturally. But the underlying characteristics of the area hasn¡¯t changed. Venture capitals and job-hoppings, hyper-competitive and individualistic lifestyle are there as usual. And those are vividly illustrated in this book with the texture of real business rendered with data garnered from interviews and anecdotes of not only eminent figures in the area but also ranks and files of the businesses. This book is inundated with lively details. Though there are flood of materials on Silicon Valley these days, this book doesn¡¯t lose its relevancy for the weight of time. I strongly recommend this book if you want to figure out the way of doing in Silicon Valley.

This book is really great. I am doing a 5th grade project in school, and without this book I would not have been able to complete my homework assignments on time.

The book is very nicely written with very easy to understand vocabulary and beautiful illustrations.

In late April of 1968, a college student and experienced climber named David Koop died when a portion of the rock sheered off the mountain he was climbing. The death was devastating to his friends and close knit family. In their grief and attempts to understand what happened, C. Everett Koop - chief of pediatric surgery at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia and later Surgeon General of the United States - and his wife give a moving account of their faith in God and how that faith has sustained their family's loss throughout the years. This slim volume (96 pages) is poignant, honest, and strangely comforting to the reader. I was moved by this book and can recommend it without reservation.
