Dr. Christopher is the King of Cayenne!
If I had to choose only one herb that I could take for the rest of my life, it would be cayenne. Read this book and you'll see why! It addresses the miraculous results people can be sure to experience with ailments such as high blood pressure, cardiovacular concerns, digestion and many more. I had read this book years ago and took it to heart, I have just reread it and decided to send copies to everyone I love, it is the most important thing a person can do for their health I think. Dr. Christopher's formulas are clear and so simple to make. And you get an education about every process, not just the instructions; he tells you what's happening and why it's happening. I think this material should be in everyone's home! Learn how a tsp. of cayenne stirred into a cup of warm water can stop a heart attack in it's tracks. We carry cayenne in our car's glove box as part of a first aid kit.

A Believable Biography, warts & all.
John Chapman (Chappo to everyone who has heard of him) is a rare Australian. He is as Australian as the day is long and is keen to tell people about Jesus. This Biography, by a senior Australian Lawyer, no less (Michael Orpwood is a QC, or Queen's Counsel) tell the Chappo story from his youth in Southern Sydney through the formation of the Department of Evangelism, right up to his retirement. Possibly the best known Evangelist Australia has produced, his style is unmistakably Aussie. You should also try to read his two books 'A Fresh Start' and 'Know & Tell the Gospel).

excellent researched and scholarly
This book is definately a masterpiece. Dr. Clarke was truly a genuis, he goes through the slave trade and shows the roles of both various European world imperialist powers, and african empires that played a role in the slave trade. He uses referrences from portuguese and spanyard sources that shows the role of Christopher Colombus, and his crew men in the african holocaust as well as the holocaust against the indigenous people of america. He shows how the crusades played a crucial role in the second rise of europe and its exploitation of most of the world. This book is excellent, it is well researched and it answers questions to many unknown or know but unanswered questions. The personality of Christopher Colombus and europe's mentality towards the rest of the world has been exposed. I seriously recommend this book for all who are interested in the subject.

An Excellent reference
An Excellent reference - based on good research work, some of it carried out by Dr. Luis Coin Cuenca of the
University of Cadiz. I first read it in February 1993 and still refer to it now and again.
It covers earlier European voyages to the Americas, Vikings but NOT St Brendan's Irish voyage to Greenland etc, circa 570 AD.
Nor to speak does it cover the undiscoverd maps or puertolanos passed down from generation to generation of the Basque Cod fishing grounds located between Iceland and North America.
It also covers Colon's earlier voyages along the coast Africa and northern Europe and the very interesting clues that existed of another continent in the west atlantique. Interestingly it
does mention a mysterious map or puertolano in the initial voyage.

However it is Eurocentric and neglects to mention the great Arab explorers nor the voyages of Asian (Chineese, Polyanesian and ? Australian aborigines- whose remains were found in-Cien Fuegos-Chile & Brazil 3 years ago) to the North American continent.

Other interesting tales of discovery are 'the Adventures of Ibn Battuta' by ross Dunn ISBN: 0520067436
and the voyages of discovery of 'Pytheas the Greek' by Barry Cunliffe ISBN: 0713995092

Assessing biotech
One of the areas of greatest growth and expansion in recent times is that of biotechnology. New developments are taking place almost weekly, and there is enormous potential for profitability. In many ways biotech has outstripped computer and other technologies as a major growth area. But while the science and technology of human life has mushroomed in the last few years, the ethics of biotech have been much less forthcoming.

That is, bioethics have not kept pace with biotechnology. And given how most of us are or will be affected by the new biological and reproductive technologies, it is imperative that some serious ethical thinking about biotech be promoted. But as is often the case, science is well and truly leading in this particular race.

Fortunately, however, there are a number of groups and individuals who are taking up the challenge by engaging in moral reflection on where the new technologies are taking us.

One such group that is at the cutting-edge of bioethics is the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity located just outside of Chicago. In a few short years the CBHD has become a leading center of research and study in the burgeoning field of bioethics. Its annual bioethics conference held each July draws experts from around the globe to discuss the latest trends in biotechnology, and offer incisive ethical comment on the advances being made.

In this, the latest volume to be released from the Center, a team of 15 experts address a wide array of issues concerning the new technologies, and the various trends in biotech. Stem cell research, cloning, the Human Genome Project, genetic manipulation, xenotransplantation, transgenics, nanotechnology and cybernetics are among the many fascinating topics covered.

If some of the terms just mentioned seem exotic and even unpronounceable, this is a reflection of the rapid change and development taking place with the new biotechnologies. It is a full time job just to keep up with all the new developments, let alone offer social and moral critiques of them. But this volume manages to do just that. Experts in genetics, reproductive technologies, health care and public policy not only discuss the new technologies in a clear and accessible fashion, but they also provide ethical appraisal of the developments from a Christian perspective.

For example, Dr Francis Collins, who contributed an article on genetic engineering, is well placed for the task. Not only is he a committed Christian, thus able to bring moral and biblical concerns to bear on the issue, but he is also the Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute in Washington D.C. Thus he brings top-notch scientific expertise to the debate, coloured by a carefully nuanced ethical perspective.

As such, he presents the many possible benefits from the HGP, but also discusses the very real dangers inherent in our new knowledge of genetics. And he is aware of the limits to science and technology. Science will not "shed any light on what it means to love someone, what it means to have a spiritual dimension to our experience, nor will it tell us much about the character of God. We must look to other sources to provide light for our spiritual journeys. Science is an incredibly powerful tool for understanding the natural world, but it is poorly designed for understanding these other aspects of who we are."

A very interesting article on the future trends of biotechnology comes from Richard Swenson, the Director of the Future Health Study Center. He offers an intriguing glimpse into various future scenarios. He reminds us that above all, the economic factor will determine future trends. With health care costs consuming ever larger hunks of the national budget, expect medicine to continue to change, often for the worse.

And in the area of the new reproductive technologies, he reminds us that the separation of sex from reproduction is now almost complete. In fact, there are now over 25 different ways to create a baby, with no end in sight. The ramifications for the institutions of marriage and family are enormous.

Indeed, many of the authors in this book remind us that the staggering new advances in science and technology are radically shifting our understanding of what it is to be a human. Humanity and personhood are under serious threat, with one author going so far as to suggest that "mortal human beings are rapidly becoming an endangered species". He continues, "This is not a question about personal ethics, but about eugenics. The completion of the map of the human genome only brings closer the possibility of using this potentially wonderful technology as a weapon against the genetically undesirable and as a greenhouse for the genetically desirable."

Whether the new technologies usher in a new paradise or the extinction of humankind is an open question. But clearly the new technologies are taking us in places we have never been before. And before we proceed much further, we need to do some serious thinking about the ethics of these new developments. And a very good place to begin with such reflection is this very important book.

WHAT I THINK
This book is very educating for young people. It is a good book because most kids fall in love the the characters of Pooh and his "gang." This is kind of a mystery book for the kid also, and introduces them into the world of reading suspense. I would reccomend this to any parent as a good book for there children.

A Future for Openness...
"In essence, in our letters we have tried to embody in our dialogue the prophet Micah's admonition that the Lord requires us to treat each other justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly wt ur God (6:8)." (p. 200)

This is exactly what one finds in this book. Two scholars, Chris Hall (Eastern University) and John Sanders (Huntington College) discuss issues surrounding the nature of God and his relationship with human affairs. Presented in back-and-forth dialogue exchanged via email, this book presents its intentional discussion based upon Christian love and thoughtful understanding rather than reducing theological debate to useless rhetoric and characturization that is often seen in theological disagreements.

This book is a great read for those who are well versed in the issues Openness raises as well as those who are relatively unfamiliar with theological topics of this nature. Both of the authors do a fantastic job of bringing together solid academic with a meaningful, real world, lay understanding. It is obvious that both of these gentlemen have a strong passion for the Church.

Many different topics are engaged in this book - I will not try to recount them here. Know that these authors cut quickly and meaningfully to the heart of the issues, challenging each other to present a solid position. (For those who might not understand, the title derrives from the issue of divine timelessness and impassibility. In other words, does God experience emotion or time...hence, does God have (experience) a future?)

This book will be noted as how theological dialogue ought to be handled. There is pointed argumentation, humorous asides, personal examples, facetious rhetoric, and above all...Christian humility and love.

Both of these theologians admit that they do not have all of the answers, but that they are constantly looking. "Faith seeking understanding."(Anselm)

G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. , a game for Intrepid Adventurers, by Jove
This is a good set of wargaming rules for Victorian Science Fiction: Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Rider Haggard, Conan Doyle, etc. Players with "The Sword and the Flame" or "Space 1889" armies looking for a weird change of pace should check these out. The basic games mechanisms are your standard 1:1 skirmish game rules, with special abilities and saves for Heroic Characters. Where the rules really shine is how they integrate the Science Fiction elements. You come up with a concept, machine, infernal device, dinosaur, what-not, and then roll dice to randomize its effectiveness. You need to roll dice to start things up, and then to keep them going ("sustain" rolls). This prevents super-powerful infernal devices from ruling the game. Inspired by a game my son and I played at a convention, I have sought out old Burger King Wild Wild West Giant mechanical spider toys, Pinnacle's Weird West Civil War Soldiers with rocket packs, Disney Atlantis Toys, etc. The interesting part is that any weapons you can invision Victorians having (and that includes Burrough's John Carter of Mars) can be made, but they will have limitations. Bring on those Lost Valley T-rexes and pterodactyls. This game is FUN!

A good basic book for beginners
My 12 year old son and I just started into RC model trucks and this book is a very informative start. It covers the basics of both electric and gas models. Although the specific models covered are a bit dated, the explanations of how things work and lots of photographs and illustrations make this book very useful to the beginner.
