A must for the Las Vegas architecture junkie...
I've read other Alan Hess books- Googie come to mind. I really enjoyed Hess's style for this book. Alan Hess writes an occasional column for the San Jose Mercury News concerning architecture. He did not leave me disappointed with this book. It was evident that Alan Hess enjoyed this place as much as I did on my last visit to Sin City!

This book came out in 1993. If you're looking for information on the newer hotels that have sprung up, the ones that came and left during then and now, you won't find it here. You will find details about the ones that were imploded during the 90's, which was a nice resource for those of us that were curious about the Sands, Dunes, Hacienda and the Aladdin. It's also an indication of just how much the strip has evolved from the timeline of the publishing of this book and what is the strip looks today, year 2001. An excellent study of the architecture changes of Vegas and its reflections on the rest of the U.S.

A MUST buy for the Las Vegas afficianado!
If you buy one book about the colorful history and architecture of the Golden Age of Las Vegas to the present, THIS IS IT!!! This wonderful book is expertly researched with many many old drawings, postcards, photos, and more!

An OUTSTANDING resource for the exploration of Arizona Trout
Here is the best tip that I can give anyone for fly fishing Arizona, ready? Buy it! Try buying it right here you won't find it in the shops yet. Get your credit card out, and type me a message right now telling me "thank you" so you don't have to hold yourself up e-mailing adam while you are getting ready to explore all the wonderful opportunities that are exposed in this book. I am absolutely impressed! In 1999, no less than three books on Arizona Fly Fishing have been released for the public. This book is a MUST HAVE for any fly fisher in the state of Arizona. If you have to buy one book, this is it. It is my favorite, did I say that? For those of you visiting the state, this resource is definitely one that puts you in touch with more information than most of the locals. Mr Johnson is obviously a very keen Arizona explorer with a fly rod. In a nutshell, you will not find any careless meanderings, no miss marked maps, just a Christopher Columbus of fly fishing here in our state. Gee's this guy has been around. The answers are there for questions that are very close to my heart. I will not go into detail about this book other than I TOLD YOU SO! Do you want Arizona Trout???

as Albert (who?) Einstein lauded this book....
"We may well be grateful to Brown for this book on the condition of mankind as it appears to an erudite, clear-sighted, critically appraisng scientist...the latest phase of technical-scientific progress, with its fantastic increase of population, has created a situation fraught with problems of hitherto unknown dimensions, this objective work is of high value." Also recommended by Supreme Court Justice William Douglas, this is an early and still highly valuable contribution to "future shock"-type planning and anticipation, hmmm, hum a few bars.

The exciting life of an exciting man!
If you want to get to know John Brown, his family, his life, his problems and his ways, you have to read this book, from his childhood to his death in Virginia after the raid of Harper's Ferry each station of his life is shown in detail (which makes it sometimes difficult to read with pure pleasure). Before I read this book I knew about Brown as a criminal, a fanatic, a murderer may be. Yes, he was... but you have to know what shaped him to be a fanatic and a murderer. His life was a struggle for freedom, and he was beat hard by life. He came on the wrong way or better: He went too far on the right one. This is a very exciting and helpful book! Just read it!

Music ministry has never been more clearly defined!!
My wife and I have a small music ministry and are blessed to be able to make our living in this manner. When I purchased this book I was just happy someone with more experience than us, someone with a national reputation for integrity in his fine Christian Music, had undertaken the task of laying out a road map for Christian musicians follow. This primer seeks to educate those who are more concerned with ministry than fame.

I had expected Mr. Brown's book to be of a more annecdotal nature (What to do when the church you are ministering at fails to meet it's obligations to you, etc.) Instead I found a Christ-centered book steeped in Scripture. In other words, the author allows God to be the ultimate authority on the subject, not himself.

I recommend "Keeping The Gospel In Gospel Music" to the young would-be artist contemplating a ministry life on the road, to worship leaders and team members who plan to stay in one place, and even to the grizzled music ministry veteren as a checklist to find out if his heart for God's work continues to beat in synch with the Father's.
