Very thorough text book
"From Neuron to brain" is a very good thorough text book, with a level that I would rate as a good MA or PhD class. Altough it is not as detailed as for example Candells book, it has two great advantages: It is concise, and quite readable. It definetely rates as a TEXT book that you can actually read, unlike some other books whose use in the end is often a REFERENCE guide, not a text to learn from.

Good intro to neurobiology
Comprehensive introduction to the field of neurobiology. Good descriptions of molecular level experiments are provided. As well, a full chapter is devoted to an overview of the nervous systems of the leech and Aplysia.

Medical Student Opinion
The photographs are excellent, but the index sucks. It is poorly organized and incomplete. Take my advice and buy this book for Neuroanatomy just for the pictures. The paperback edition is very afforadable. Just put lots of little flags on the pages or sections you use most. It will save you much brain-ache.

It's best!!
Hanaway's brain atlas is best neuroanatomy atlas for medical students in pre-clinical level. Its photos and illustrations are very clear and easy to understand. And it is good for self study.

Recommended Book
"I will certainly use [The Brain Atlas] to teach our residents in neuroanatomy and will encourage them to purchase the book as well." --Volker K.H. Sonntag, M.D., Barrow Neurosurgical Associates, Ltd.

Science talks, Buddhism listens
I found this book to be a bit of a disappointment. I suppose if you want an over-view of scientific thought on the brain, then this might be interesting. The Dalai Lama mostly asked questions and the scientists spoke about science. Only once did a scientist ask the Dalai Lama a point about Buddhism, and then it was only to set him up to be debunked. The scientists just can't accept any view point that is not materialist. They don't even understand other viewpoints except as superstition. So there is no real dialogue.

Actually, I didn't really expect a dialogue when I bought this. I was hoping for some clarity and insight into Buddhist thoughts on consciousness, using Western terminology. No such luck.

Gave it a few stars because everyone was intelligent and articulate.

Excelent Book
This book explains in a very clear and accesible way what are the differents viewpoints between Neuroscience and the Bhuddist religion. It discusses how the mind is conformed, how it learns, and the way it reorganizes itself.

The futur of the world
This book is a very important door for the future of the humanity.

Written for Doctors
This is a well formatted, highly technical book. That is what surprised me. This book is not written for the layman. DO NOT purchase this book unless you are well-versed in chemistry and can follow a highly technical medical book. I was impressed by "Parkinson's Disease: Questions and Answers" but it took some intense reading for me to be able to pull good information out of it. This is a must-buy for your primary care physician if they aren't well versed in Parkinson's disease.

Technical, but worthwhile
This book is written with a great deal of research and medical substance. If you are just learning about Parkinson's, this is not the book to begin with. If you have some knowledge and want specifics, this is a good book. It is a nice book to pick up and read parts at a time. Information is candid and thorough.

I found this book to be very informative and easy to read.
I loved the format of the book! In reading any publication of its type, one typically has specific questions on a particular subject or seeks further explanation on a variety of issues to maintain as a reference. It was very easy to direct my attention to the very topics I was most interested in, and to return to them in times of need. The format of the book (question and answer), the length of the chapters, and flow of information made it a very quick read despite the complexity of the material. It will be one that I will keep on my shelf for a long time.

More Than Meets The Eye....
Never mind the unforgivably cheesy cover. Never mind that the reader is being asked to psychically contact an unseen paradise called "Fairyland City". It may sound ridiculous, but don't put the book down until you've done some of the exercises. Do them with the faith and knowledge that they'll work. They've worked for quite a number of people. This volume transcends the usual self-help fodder and glides, albeit gently, into the realm of magick. It comes off like a blend between gentle white magick and new age pop psychology, but it's useful. Skeptics will be forced to engage a "willing suspension of disbelief" here. If you're lacking in imagination, forget it. This book is all about imagination; moreover, it's about actively using that imagination toward the goal of self-liberation. Rather than just reading a compendium of dry pages, the reader is asked to actively pursue one psychic exercise after another. These exercises, strange as they may seem at moments, can be highly effective. There are exercises for luck, self-esteem, purification, forgiveness, prosperity and more. This book has helped a lot of people. It may or may not prove helpful to you, but if you possess enough faith and imagination to put these brief exercises into action, you may just find yourself with an improved outlook on life.

REFRESHING APPROACH TO SELF-HELP
Based on the well-known fact that relaxed imaging, or daydreaming, activates the right hemisphere of the brain. This hemisphere is essential for healing, creativity, problem-solving and enjoying meaningful relationships. Dr Stone's book provides a series of exercises (action plans)on "Calling for answers" with your right brain and covers prosperity, health, justice, creativity, protection, intuition and more. I find his approach to self-help original and refreshing, and the book is really a pleasure to read. Also, the exercises are fairly easy to perform and memorize. There is even a reproduction of the mysterious "Solomon's Seal" that one would expect only to find in books on magick. Dr Stone has been a Silva Method lecturer for more than 2 decades and introduced the program to a number of countries. I like his writing style and his acumen for putting across metaphysical concepts in a manner that is easy to understand.

This is a book 'Not to be judged by it's cover'.
Dr Stone provides a clear and loving approach to the reawakening of human potential. By accepting his reasons for the use of such terminology as 'Fairyland City' as a way of directing our visual imaginations toward the latent potentiality of the consciousness waiting within us it will be seen that Dr Stone presents a plan of ACTION that people, working along, or with others can quickly grasp and use. That caracteristic of growing consciousness which one highly attained being refered to as 'leavening' is active in Dr Stone's work. Just one example is his clear vision of the remarriage occuring between Science and Spirituality. Be it the words of the New Testament, the collected work of Dr Bucke's 'Cosmic Consciousness' or Murat Yagan's 'Ahmusta Kebzeh' Dr Stone's work is right there among those keenly aware writer's who care for their fellow man. Thank-you Dr Stone!

Fascinating
This book tells the story of a young man who travels to Papua New Guinea to try his hand at medical research. The book jackets accurately describes it as "a gripping medical mystery, an exotic travelogue, and a stirring coming-of-age story." Just one year out of college, Klitzman sets off to Papua New Guinea alone to work on a project arranged by Carleton Gajdusek to survey the incubation time for kuru. Klitzman soon finds himself living in the Highlands, where he spends his time seeking out former cannibals who are dying of kuru so that he can interview them about when they last ate human flesh.

Klitzman's cultural insights are quite compelling- -instead of finding fault with all that frustrates him, he is able to put the difficulties in context and realize that people are much the same everywhere, underneath their material trappings. One of the fascinating facets of this book is that at the time when Klitzman was doing his research in PNG, kuru was dying out- -the project that he was working on was to find the incubation period for a disease without a future, or so it seemed at the time. When Mad Cow began popping up a few years after Klitzman finished his project, the results suddenly became extremely important for trying to estimate potential deaths due to tainted beef. The book serves as a good reminder that basic research may prove its worth long after the fact.

The book's main narrative takes place in Papua New Guinea in 1983-84, 7 years after independence. It provides interesting historical documentation of living conditions in PNG in the time immediately following independence. In 1997, Klitzman returns to the area where he did his research, and observes how many aspects of life in PNG had deteriorated in the intervening time, despite the quantity of wealth coming into the country. For this reason, area specialists may find much of interest in Klitzman's detailed descriptions of living conditions in the early 1980s in PNG.

Strange Title - Amazing Adventure
I had read Dr Klitzman's earlier book "Being Positive" and wanted to read more of his work, the title sounded very strange but bought the book after the life affirming experience of reading the first. Dr Klitzman is one hell of an explorer !, brave, adventurous and a great medical investigator and researcher. The Papua New Guinea Highlands might hold the answers to the questions that medical researchers have been asking for years and Dr Klitzman is a trail blazer to these answers. This story deserves to be read by anyone who is affected directly or indirectly by any disease from cancer to HIV, it will give you a better insight and hope.

An extraordinary story by a gifted writer
Written with the intensity of a thriller, THE TREMBLING MOUNTAIN is a brilliant examination of the cultures of the mind. Read it now.

CAVEAT (emptor): It's just the images!
I can't say much about the book. I skimmed through it, didn't find so much better stuff compared to, let's say, Kandel & Schwartz. I thought buying the "CD version" would give me a slim, searchable CD-ROM instead of another tome of neuroscience stuff. My fault.

On the other hand the leaflet of the CD-ROM states clearly "fundamental NEUROSCIENCE images". If anyone were to be blamed at all, it'd be me jumping to conclusions and maybe Amazon for not pointing out that it's a CD-ROM full of images (ca. 900 TIFs and some GIFs (<3%)). It's just the images, no legends etc. The viewer is Kudo. It displays thumbnails and seems to have problems keeping the aspect ration when enlarging the viewing window. (It will let you make slide shows, screen savers etc. But that's not exactly why I would by a publication on neuroscience).

Superb graphics cover neuroscience in electronic form
This CD comprises all the superb art from the Book. The art is in "jpeg" (*.jpg) format and can be "cut and pasted" into electronic slides. The book it comes from is a tour de force from leading researchers in the area of neuroscience. It is comprehensive in scope going from modern molecular and cellular neuroscience to cognitive and behavioral neuroscience. Includes strong sections on developmental neuroscience, sensory and motor neuroscience, and regulatory systems. Exceptional value for money. Suitable for teaching neuroscience at the graduate level (although it may also be suited for teaching advanced undergraduates and academic medical students and for presentations at professional symposia).

Carnitine is the best supplement I have ever taken!
The Carnitine Miracle is the nutrition book that allowed me understand and conquer my low energy levels, mental dullness, weak immune system, and fatigue during workouts. I thought my diet and supplement plan was perfect since I was a vegetarian for 5 years and took my multivitamins, but I soon realized that my animal free diet was in fact causing me more harm than good. The Carnitine Miracle has helped me understand why Carnitine is the most important supplement in my diet and why it's so important to increase my consumption of healthy protein and essential fats. I was suprised to see so many thousands of scientific studies done on Carnitine over the years showing its tremendous benefits on cardiovascular health and fat burning. The eating and supplement plans have allowed me to increase my daily energy levels, burn more body fat, and feel more mentally alert at work. I am getting more accomplished than ever before!

An Extraordinary Book about and Extraordinary Nutrient!
This book is the real thing--a guide to losing weight that works! It has changed my life. Carnitine has helped me lose weight, get more energy, even have more mental sharpness as well. Easy to read, direct, and based on solid research! I have bought copies for all my friends. Highly recommended!

The Carnitine Miracle by Robert Crayhon
I finished reading the subject book about a month ago and started putting it into practice. I felt much better within a short time, and I am still improving. As a benchmark of what this has done for me, I can say that my heart rate during excercise has dropped about 8 beats per minute for the same level of aerobic excercise. My mental capacity has also noticeably improved. This is nothing short of astounding to me. This book only leaves out what to do about getting enough fiber on the low carb diet.

Not Just for Account People!
This book is a wonderful resource that gets right to the point and provides important information. I wish that every business coaching book was this enjoyable to read -- I read it in one sitting!  Although this book is written for the "Account Person," I think that it applies to anyone who has client contact, runs a meeting, or makes presentations.  I am a "Media Person," and I picked up some great pointers on relationship-building.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who works at an agency.

Learn to be a great account executive in less than an hour.
After fifteen years as an executive in the advertising business, I'm still stymied every time I try to explain what it takes to be a great account executive. Thankfully, Robert Solomon has done it for me. This book does a terrific job of boiling down a very complicated and multi-faceted job into a few short chapters. In less than an hour, you'll learn everything you need to know to become an effective account manager. From developing strong strategies to building lasting relationships with clients to conducting yourself properly in meetings, this book has it all. Definitely required reading for anyone interested in entering (or staying) in the advertising business.

An Insightful, Refreshing Read
I've read and re-read this book several times. In a world where agencies - particularly smaller ones - have no time to train Account people on things other than job-specific tasks, this is a great book to bring the importance of a total relationship with clients - and co-workers - into focus.

I would recommend it as standard reading for anyone starting out in the agency business (or really any client-relationship business), and would also suggest that seasoned vets keep it close for periodic reference. A great read - quick, insightful, on the money.
