It's All Time High
Wow! What a great book. This collection of Bond songs really give you an All Time High. I found that the level of the music was perfect for me. Not only can you play the songs to your heart's content, but they include the words to the songs, so you can sing along too. They also have awesome pictures between the songs, which really give it the James Bond attitude. I gave it a five, because I felt that the level, pictures and songs were chosen perfectly for this book. The book includes the whole song, unlike other music books that cut it short. If I could live twice, I would definitely make the same choice again.

JAMES BOND 007: The Making of LTK
This is an excellent book on the making of a James Bond film. It goes over every aspect and detail. It is profusely illustrated with over a hundred colour photographs. It even goes into details about the scoring of the film. This is the best "making of ..." on any James Bond film in the series. This is a must for every James Bond collector. This is really a great companion piece to the film. You can greatly appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a Bond movie. It's not always clear sailing, but the Bond crew gets the job done. Read this fascinating and informative book. It is a great work on filmmaking in general and worthy of attention from students of the cinema.

Roger Moore as James Bond: Roger Moore's own account of filming "Live and let die"

FIRST-RATE ORIGINAL SOURCE MATERIAL FOR THE AVID BOND FAN
This book/diary is most worthwhile to all Bond afficionados, on several counts. For one thing, it is one of the most up-close and personal looks at Roger Moore you can hope to find. This journal was kept by him during the filming of his first effort as Bond. He really comes across as down-to-earth, warm, human, very humorous, a practical joker, and utterly lacking any pretence or arrogance. What a fantastic human being. But second, it is an in-depth look at the making of one of the immortal Bond movies. I tell you, after reading this book you will have a new appreciation for "Live and Let Die". The stunts, the locations, the women, the laughs, its all here. Its extremely readable and hard to put down. I found it ended all too soon. I wish he had written one for each movie. Very few books quite like this.

Thrilling Locations: A Supplement for the James Bond Oo7 Game

The guide to creating exotic new missions for James Bond 007
As Role Playing Game supplements go, this one has all the elements of a "must-have". Along with the Q-Manual and Basic game, this add-on shows once again the high quality of gaming materials Avalon Hill has become known for. Being the last supplement published for the highly underrated role playing game featuring the world's greatest spy, "Thrilling Locations" is one of the jewels of the collection. (As a side note, Avalon Hill was purchased by Hasbro Interactive in 1998 and it has become unclear what will happen to the James Bond 007 roleplaying franchise as the company is restructured to fit Hasbro's business model.)

If you play the James Bond roleplaying game, and particularly if you are a game master, this is an invaluable resource. One can find in-depth information about the ritzy locations and high-priced vehicles James Bond would encounter in one of his most extravagant missions in Her Majesty's Secret Service. From casinos to restaurants, yachts to jets, this book gives in-depth descriptions and game stats on the most expensive of Bond locations and vehicles. One can also find the bios and stats of the people who can afford to live such an outrageous lifestyle, or those work for them. This softcover book features color photos and the information is surprisingly accurate, as the book was written with the cooperation of the actual establishments and manufacturers it features.

"Thrilling Locations" also contains the rules and game mechanics for a host of games of chance that players may encounter in the game, including roulette, blackjack, and of course, baccarat.

After reading this very enjoyable book, one truly knows a little more about how it would feel to stand in the shoes of the man known as "Bond... James Bond."

Bond enters the atomic era
Fleming's third Bond novel is quite a good one. The pace is slower than the previous one, "Live and Let Die", but anyway faster than "Casino Royale" (and, like the latter, includes one excellent card-game scenario). It's amazing how the author takes us from 007 at his most domestic to the (then) most sci-fi adventure. The villain, Drax, may look as someone took from a nightmare but Fleming describes him in such detail -dialogue, appearence, mood, idiosincracies and the story of his life- that the character becomes completely "real" (even upsetting the reader as much as he upsets Bond in the book). Drax's speech (heard on the radio by 007) when Moonraker is about to get fired is simply the best monologue Fleming ever conceived or wrote. Superb, funny yet amazingly dangerous! And Gala Brand, the heroine, just not falls into Bond's arms like so many, leaving the secret agent reflecting alone about their different lives and showing us his vulnerability instead of the wrongly-assumed 007's eternal success with women. It's a pity the film version spoiled this title (actually, the title is the only resemblance to the novel), taking Bond to three countries and outer space while this excellent down-to-earth adventure story goes no farther than London and Dover. The rocket ready to blow Buckingham Palace is a more atractive and original idea by far. Bond save the Queen, indeed!

good but outdated
This was a good read but it had nothing to do with the movie except for the name. Also, since it was written in the 50's, it is a little behind modern high-tech spy thrillers. But it is still nicely written and enjoyable to read.

One of the best, if not THE best.
I have to admit that I just couldn't put this book down. Every single page is intriguing and suspenseful, and contains an elaborate plot where ex-Nazi Sir Hugo Drax, head of the Moonraker nuclear missile project, is secretly planning to destroy London to gain revenge for his country's defeat in World War 2. Moonraker is rather like two books in one: the first part of the story centers on a card game at an exclusive gambling club, where 'M' has called Bond to investigate the suspicion of Drax cheating. In a brilliant sequence, Bond discovers Drax's ruse. This sets the stage for the second part, where 007 goes to Dover and finds out the terrifying secret about Drax and Moonraker.... Ian Fleming provides some intriguing touches looking into Bond's thoughts about his job, not to mention making Drax look like a grotesquely evil figure, and the Bond girl Gala Brand is impressive in that she plays a key part in discovering Drax's evil scheme, but she never really falls in love with Bond - rather an anomaly. In summary, Moonraker is a classic James Bond thriller from Mr. Fleming and is every bit as good as the film of the same name. (Interesting point: in the book Fleming compares Drax as a Lonsdale-type, in the film Drax is played by actor Michael Lonsdale. Coincidence?)

One of the Best Books on the James Bond Films from DK
If you are a James Bond fan this book from Dorling Kindersley is nothing less than fantastic. Dorling Kindersley is starting to corner the market on good looking and attractive books. This book is very visually conceived, designed and presented so this book is right up Dorling Kindersley's alley. They know how to do it right. Each James Bond film is addressed with an emphasis on its production design (gadgets, sets, etc.). We are given 3 dimensional views of key sets from each film. This is what I really liked about it. This is a great companion book to Sally Hibbon's 'The Official James Bond Movie Book' which was also very beautifully presented. If you love the cinematic world of James Bond this book from Dorling Kindersley is for you. This is a book you thought they never would make, but they did. This book holds a special place in my collection.

I am a 007 Fan and I Love this Book
This is one of the best oversized books or just flat out any book on James Bond I have ever seen. This is a color extravaganza on the world of 007. This is a well thought out and well-researched book. Nobody just sat down at a typewriter and simply wrote this book. It is constructed and written something akin from the perspective of a motion picture production designer. Every aspect of this book is consistent to the overall image that the name James Bond conjures up. What is really unique about this book is how official photographs and pictures were combined with images specifically designed and drawn for this publication. What especially impressed me upon first thumbing through the pages of this book was how the sets from each Bond film were reconstructed in 3 dimensional diagrams by artists showing how the action and the characters moved about on the screen thanks to cinematography, special effects and editing. This alone is an invaluable analysis of the look of these films and the illusion they produce to create the world of James Bond. Dorling Kindersley once again has published an impressive book with their distinct look and flair for quality. As a James Bond fan this book is above and beyond anything I had ever expected.

LICENSED FOR FUN...
This is a fun book to the max! The Dorling Kindersely art work...layout, graphics, and eye-popping POP-OUT photos...is superb (compares admirably with, among others, DK's fine computer software projects). Fans of 007 will admit that Bond, the gadgetry, and his 40-year pantheon/array of vicious villains and delicious vixens never (Say Never?)looked better. The book opens with a quick, wry prologue from "M" (the Judi Dench incarnation). A visually arresting DOSSIER highlighting Bond's inimitable style, women, weapons, allies...especially Q, Wizard of MI-6...and arch enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld follows. Then the OHMSS missions...from Dr. No to The World is Not Enough...are given a classy "declassification". The book concludes with a review of THE BOND film canon (The Harry Saltzman-Albert Broccoli/Eon "For Your Eyes Only" productions) and a look at the 5 actors who have...thus far...essayed the role of the now mythical 007. "JAMES BOND: The Secret World of 007" is an Aston Martin DB5 ride into "danger" and fun with Ian Fleming's icon of matchless adventure, spectacle and super-heroism. The only real DANGER...this opus is your classic "coffee table" center piece... is that a bit of un-Bonded clumsiness on the part of a reader might "bloody-up" the book with a bit of tea, soda or Dom Perignon because this is one Coffee Table book that people will read and thoroughly enjoy.

Casino Royale (James Bond Ser.)

Author: Ian Fleming

Average review score:

Where It All Began
Casino Royale was written in 1953 and is the first appearance of the Bond character, nine years before the first movie, Dr. No. He even introduces himself as "Bond, JAMES Bond" in this book.

I read all the Bond books in chronological order as a teenager in the 70's and decided to reread them since it has been so long and I have forgotten them to some degree, and started off just recently with the the first, Casino Royale.

What I like about he Bond character in the books, and in particular Casino Royale is that he is not the impregnable super spy; you can really sense the insidious danger he is in throughout the book.

The plot is about a Soviet SMERSH agent in France named La Chiffre who invested all the money SMERSH sent him in support of the Communist underground, on brothels. When France made them illegal, he suddenly had no money. His plan is to win it all back at the baccarat tables at Casino Royale. Bond's job--to beat him at the card table and prevent him from getting his money back. This will put him in bad form with SMERSH and disrupt the Communist fifth column in France.

In response to the "reader" who's review appears here at Amazon from April 1997, who asked why Bond was needed ...no Bond and La Chiffre wins back all is money at the baccarat tables, and his disruptive underground Soviet fifth column goes on in France.

It would be interesting to see the Bond movies done over adhering to the books where one could sense the danger Bond faced. Some of the early movies were similar to the books, but then began to deviate creating a plastic, unrealistic character that we really know is in no real danger.

Casino Royale introduces the world to agent 007.
Casino Royale introduces us to James Bond, among the most enduring and popular cultural icons of all time. After a KGB official known as Le Chiffre has misused Soviet funds, Bond is dispatched to break his bank at the bacarat table where Le Chiffre is attempting to rebuild his funds. SMERSH is already hunting Le Chiffre down, and this will hasten this powerful Soviet agent's demise, publicly humiliating him in the process. Intriguingly, this plot almost takes a backseat to the development of Bond's relationship with Vesper Lynd, the very first Bond girl. Le Chiffre meets his fate with about seventy pahes of the novel remaining. Vesper's secret, and the effect it has on Bond, sets the tone for Bond's future relations with women, and helps to explain why he treats them as he does. This novel is riveting, and Ian Fleming creates an aura of danger and excitement even at a casino table. If you haven't yet read a Bond novel, this is the place to start.

The Making of two Legends...
I am of course writing of both Ian Fleming and James Bond.

This story is a chilling tale of East versus West in a Cold War classic. Fleming (in his first outing as a writer of fiction) develops the character of Bond. He's witty, charming, a lover of fine foods, Martinis, and of course his privately contracted cigarettes. However, Fleming manages to show how this cold British agent can have his heart shattered when the heroine makes an untimely exit -- Fleming's Bond is a very real Bond with real emotions; not like the Bond we seen on the movie screen.

Of course, the casino scene between Bond and Le Chiffre is a classic! There are several assasination attempts on Bond coupled with one of the most horrifying torture scenes in all of English literature.

Ian Fleming's legendary James Bond was conceived when he sat down at his home (Goldeneye) in Jamaica to create an alter-ego, for Fleming (at the age of 42 and about to leave bachelorhood) decided to dabble in writing a thriller. "Casino Royale" was the product of this brain-storm and a man with a very unassuming name would live a fantastic fantasy of a life -- James Bond.

How To Live The James Bond Lifestyle

Plan adventures, dress well, be 007
I already consider myself successful having achieved many of my personal goals. And although I've been studying and achieving success for years, I had gotten stale and complacent. In other words I began to go into a dirty t-shirt wearing, couch potato mode. Then I bought this tape and, as absurd as it sounds, galvanized my entire life back into action and positive progress.

The important aspect of the tape (and book) is the re-programing of your mind and asserting control over your negative emotions. This sounds wishy-washy, but it's the real gem. Once you begin to ask yourself "what would James Bond do in this situation" it all falls into place. You will not believe the results and turn your life will take.

You begin to immerse yourself in a lifestyle that promotes action and excitement. You plan adventures, you dress well, you act (and then become) confident. You exude prosperity. Much of the by-product of all of this is attracting women.

This tape scratches the surface but it is one of the best. I then recommend you get the book. I have listened to and read a lot of personal improvement products over the years. This one has lots of realistic techniques: not just theoretical advice. Highly recommended.

You can be real and live the James Bond life style
This tape is one of the best I have ever got. I espected something different and was very surprised when I listened to it. It is a very serious self-help tape that gives a lot of useful and practical advice on how to creat a James Bond life style. In contrary to some expectations, it stretches the necessity of responsibility, especially dealing with women and money. Besides many serious issues, the tape is a lot of fun to listen to and therefore combines usefullness and enjoyment in one. I can highly recommend that not only to the many James Bond fans but also to everybody who wants to spice up his or her life.

Beyond Pussy Galore
You don't have to get up from your couch potato position to listen to Living the James Bond Lifestyle written and read by Paul Kyriazi, but you'll want to. I bought this tape because I'm an old James Bond fan. However, I got much more than I paid for or expected. Living the James Bond Lifestyle is dynamic, racy, sexy, outrageously fun and surprisingly educational beyond Pussy Galore. Its overall motivating message can be applied to every aspect of your life. Kyriazi's voice, style and genuine realness makes the tape easy to listen to and easier to believe that he walks his talk. As the CEO of a large corporation, I highly believe in ongoing education, and motivational tapes are part of it. This Bond tape, incorporates motivation with fun, I already started employing the principles in my life.
