Passed with flying colors!
I passed the NT 4 Workstation exam last month with 900/1000 and NT 4 Server last week with 899/1000. All I used was Alan Carter's Windows NT 4 Study Guide, the books in this series, and Transcenders to pass the exam (didn't take a single class). The materials are clearly written and easy to understand with illustrations. Make sure you do the practice exams at the end of each book and the ones on their website before using Transcenders. If you understand the material rather than memorizing all the facts, you should pass the exam with no problems. These books are a wonderful supplement to the Alan Carter Books and comes with a "cram sheet" for last minute review before your exam.

The most important thing to remember for all of you pursuing your MCSE is the hands-on experience with the OS while using ANY study guide. Build a simple, 2 computer network at home while using these books. This will distinguish you from being the "Paper MCSE". Passing the exams is one thing, but when your network at your place of business is in dire trouble, panic is not an option.

Excellent for passing MCP exams
These books are excellent for helping you to pass MCSE exams in conjunction with other books and some hands on experience. I used the heavy Microsoft books fot Net Essentials and NT Workstation, I'm studying now for Server using the MS books, the Sybex book, exam cram AND testing things out on a live network. Not Server/Enterprise I'm going to try just using Exam Cram to learn the differences - reasonably confident that this book will see me through. Five stars (although a couple of mistakes in the Workstation book(!) such as one of the sample questions had a wrong answer in the answer key)because I think it's the best of it's type. Also the Net Essentials and NT Workstation exams are no longer adaptive.

An investment in your future
I had barely touched NT Server, took no classes, and purchased no additional texts with which to supplement these books. Using Exam Crams and Transcenders, I had the MCSE wrapped up in less than four months. Yeah, my social life suffered over that time, but the point is, these books have what you need to pass.

I read a couple of reviews that docked the quality of the CD. I didn't touch the CD, so that could be perfectly true. The books are pretty darn accurate, though, so buy the pack and stick with the printed page and you'll be good to go.

One word of caution is that the practice quizzes and tests in these are less challenging than and/or not too applicable to the actual exams. I urge you to cough up some money for the Transcenders and take them only after you have read and studied these books. They are so much like the real thing (harder in most cases) it is frightening.

I was working on a help desk when I bought these books. Now I support NT servers internally for a Fortune 100 company, and make close to double what I made about 6 months ago. Nuf said.

Not the actual book!
I ordered what I thought was the book, but received an audio CD instead. I can't take the CDs to class.

Magnificent and thoughtful 2nd year text; full of activities
This is a superb book for use in a lively second-year Spanish college classroom. It is not meant for independent use; it's not a teach-yourself Spanish book. It's an instructor's dream as it is loaded with realistic activities that students can actually perform in class and that are interesting. The chapters are quite thought provoking and the grammar activities are well designed and paced throughout the text. I highly recommend this text.

Good Spanish textbook
It's a textbook, but it's a good one if you want to learn Spanish. A reviewer shouldn't give a book one star because he ended up with the audio version instead of the actual book.

atlast, info on x-men behind the scenes
It always eluded me as to how the X-men were on and off a sizzling bestselling comic book for the past twenty years. So what fuels this book is actually curiousity.'Cause it was always a wonder to me what was it that made x-men so diferent than other comics.Well,i still don't see what makes this a phenomenal chart-scorcher,but it will be a bit useful for aspiring artists and writers trying to break into the comic field.

Interesting
This wonderful little book (of about 44 pages) is designed for younger readers in the Level 4 - "Proficient" category. This is not a comic book, though it does contain a number of wonderful pictures. Instead, this book is about making comic books. It talks about the artists behind the comics, and how they go about designing and creating comics, the X-Men in particular.

This is an interesting book. My eight-year-old son got this book, and enjoyed it, though I don't believe that he understood everything in it. Overall, though, he did like the book. So, we do recommend this book.

Somewhat suspenseful but characters totally unbelievable
Like others, I found this book to be very disappointing and one of Patterson's worst works.

The book was very good at some points and there were times when I even found it to be very suspenseful. However, a lot of it was boring and had me rolling my eyes at how recycled it was.

I thought the worst part was by far Patterson's characterization of the main people, especially the cop in the wheelchair. While Jeffery Deavers (who also writes a book series with a hero who is paralyzed) seemed to do research on what it is like to have a spinal cord injury, it is obvious that Patterson was flying strait from the hip. I found it pretty hard to believe that this guy seemed to be able to get around everywhere, and the ending? puhlease! I felt like I was watching a made for TV movie or something. Been there done that. It makes me wonder if he did any research at all when writing his last book "When the Wind Blows."

Anyway, I know this was one of Patterson's first books, but I'm still pretty disappointed. I guess that's what happens when you've been spoiled by his Cross novels for so long.

My first Patterson book and I found it a page turner! Nice!
Nicely written! I enjoyed the book a lot. It really kept me going especially the villain St.Germain. The last 75 too 100 pages unfolded very rapidly. Some parts of the ending and begining were predictable. I believe the book contained exciting characters. It had just the right amount of drama and suspense. It was very exciting to read. The setting in Manhattan reminded me much of back home. I could easily picture everything. I felt like a character in the book.I look forward to more James Patterson books. Job well done!

New York Detective Battles an International Crime Syndicate
New York police detective John Stefanovitch is pursuing Alexandre St.Germaine, a leader of the Midnight Club, an elite, international group of criminals. When Stefanovitch gets too close, St. Germaine strikes back. He murders Stefanovitch's wife and barely misses killing Stefanovitch, but wounds him so badly that the detective is confined to a wheelchair. This does not stop the detective's relentless pursuit, even while fellow detective's are murdered. Finally, police and FBI undertake all-out war against the Midnight Club. The story is not up to Patterson's Alex Cross tales, but it is entertaining reading through the long battle between police and the Midnight Club.

Excellent supplement material
I do not recommend using these books without other material. I have found a few errors but over all I believe they have been a great study companion. I reccommend them to all my MCSE students.

They're not everything, but they're enough.
The bottom line for me is this, using these books as a final review of the material for a few days before the test, I passed every test on the first attempt. This isn't a brag, just a fact. If you're looking for a more comprehensive text look elsewhere (I understand the Exam Prep series is good, but I haven't tried it.) These books are a great review and they work! Feel free to write me if you think that I'm a shill.

I thought the books were great for preparing for the test.
I used only the Exam Cram books and the transcenders to get through 3 tests so far on the first try. I think they are excellent books and they have made the difference for me. It sounds like the guy at the bottom didn't pass, I guess that can cause a man to feel a bit of anger in his heart, better luck next time.

NOT ONE OF HER BEST
To my mind, any book of P.D. James is worth reading, but UNNATURAL CAUSES is simply not one of her best. Yes, the plot is fascinating, if a bit dependent on twists and turns that mean very little, indeed, to the solution of the murders.

Most interesting, as usual with James, is her development of complex characters. Unfortunately, as another reviewer pointed out, almost every one of these characters is, at best, unpleasant and since they are all writers or are connected with professional writers in some way, it seems James has a bit of a chip on her shoulder about her colleagues.

The last 20 pages contain a transcription of a taped confession which ties up all the loose plot knots, but does not, at all, let us in on the effects this confession has on any of the characters except for James' detective, Adam Dalgliesh. This is truly disappointing, especially for a writer who so carefully peoples her novels.

A small note: I do not consider myself a prude and perhaps it is mere political correctness on my part, but I found James' characters' negative comments about homosexuals and one physically challenged character to be in poor taste.

Ignore other reviews; this is a fine James
Curious that, with such an arresting opening as this book has (a handless corpse floating off the Suffolk coast), i should find it so difficult to get involved with. I think, more than anything, i found it a little tough to tell some of the characters apart at first. Once past that point, however, this became, like just about every other James, the best one she's written. One grows to enjoy the little community she has created, the petty spites and jealousies, the sniping back and forth between these largely unsuccessful (at least in terms of importance) writers, at the death of one of them. Even Dalgliesh, in Suffolk on holiday, so the death is not his case, has trouble in his relationship with the local Inspector in charge of the case, they are overtly polite, but there is tension between them; he cannot hold himself back from doing some investigation on his own, however, and is able to show that murder has been committed, though not prevent another. The actual revelation of method and motive are interesting and unusual, in that James makes use of the murderer's confession to show how it was done. Another classic James and Dalgliesh.

The best view ever of Dalgliesh's character.
This is my absolute favorite of the Dalgliesh novels. The balance between exploring characters and expounding plot is just about perfect. The reader really feels for Dalgliesh as he struggles to decide about marrying Deborah Riscoe, and the murder than intrudes on his vacation is both horrible and intruiging. Finally, as an added bonus, in this book we at last get to read a bit of Dalgliesh's poetry: ten beautifully intricate lines addressed to Deborah. If you like and are interested in the character of Dalgliesh, you must own this book, because you will want to read it again and again.

A mixed bag
I purchased this book based on the author's reputation. I have mixed feelings about the book.

Yes, there are some technical inaccuracies. However, none (so far) are fatal and most seem to been due to oversights in the editing process.

Each of the chapters starts with an "In-depth" section that reviews the chapter's contents. While I hesitate to describe much of the material as "in depth"; this section of each chapter does a reasonably good job of overviewing the material. More than wading, but not deep either. More like waist deep.

The rest of each chapter provides step by step instructions to tasks related to the chapters material. Most of these "solutions" provide a step by step instuction to complete some task.

This book is not meant to be a MCSE test prep tool. For a beginning to intermediate level network administrator or for a recent NT 4 to Windows 2000 convertee, there is a lot of useful "get the job done" information.

Better then trying to wade through the NT 2000 ResKit
Love the layout. Made it easy to find what I was looking for.

I also have the Microsoft Press 2000 ResKit... found the black book a lot easier to use...

Very good cross over book.
This is really a good book. It is note quite a reference manual. Its more of a teaching/insturction book. I have been working with NT since 3.51. The jump from 3.51 to 4.0 was pretty easy because you were using Windwos 95 for a year already and 4.0 "looked" just like 95 and it still worked a lot like 3.51. With 2000 its all new.

This book gives an explanation of what its covering in the chapter - good stuff - a lot like a manual, then it gives step-by-step instructions on how to do things that you wouldn't even need to think about how to do in NT4. Its worth it - you might not need it as much 8 months from now - but it should be on the self for those 1st 8 months. I would recomend this book to newbies and pros alike.

The only thing that could be better was if Stu could have hooked us up with licensed versions of the software included with the CD ;)

Super
Pop goes the Weasel, James Patterson Little, Brown and Company ISBN 0316693286 H. C. Mystery/Suspense

We first met Alex Cross in Kiss the Girls, where a devilish duo went after women, Than there was Cat and Mouse where a blood thirsty butcher was after his family, now there is the weasel, who is a chilling villain that no reader will forget, I know that I won't for a long while. Alex and his partner John Sampson want to search for the Jane Doe killer, but their tyrannical boss George Pitman orders them to investigate a high- profile murder of a rich white man instead. This book combines a love story of great tenderness and a plot of relentless suspense and heart pounding pace. I found the court room scenes to be rather boring, other than that the story is believable, and the ending is so exciting that you will want the book to go on and on.

James Patterson is a past winner of the prestigious Edgar's Award. Mr. Patterson is a heck of a writer who makes you believe the characters are real.

One of the scariest
This Book is by far one of Patterson's Scariest books. The Villain is just beyond INSANE. THIS IS A MUST READ! A thriller abover thillers. Only to compare to Kiss the Girls. Non stop. My husband who is not a thriller book fan, read it in a weekend non stop.

Pop over to purchasing link, buy this sensational thriller
This is a sensational book and one of the best Alex Cross novels written. The Weasel is a particularly evil character and brings a new complication for Alex. He has diplomatic immunity so he can't even be questioned. Sampson, the kids and the others are in danger if Cross can't prove it's him and stop him in time. This is a brilliant fast paced, short chaptered book that you won't be able to put down. Buy yourself some blank tapes as you won't be watching TV until you've finished.

Mediocre prep tool for the 70-064 exam
The title says it all. This book is for CRAMING ONLY. DO NOT use it as your sole source of information for the exam. It was a very FAST read. The practice test at the end of the book is just a rehash of the questions found at the end of each chapter, it was useless. The is information in here is good for the exam, but not good enough to pass. This book should only be use in conjunction with another book (perhaps Teach yourself Win 95 in 14 days for MCSE). I passed the exam using these two books and the practice test downlaoded from Microsoft.

Good book for someone with some experience already.
This is a good book for preparation, as long as you already know your way around Win95 and computers in general. It tells you what you need to know to pass the exam, but does not go into much detail or explanation. I used this book and the practice tests downloaded from Microsoft and passed the first time. If you are more advanced, you might be able to get away with just the O'Reilly book--it is VERY concise. But Exam Cram is a good middle ground: not as verbose as the Microsoft test prep books but offers a little more elaboration than O'Reilly. A little weak in interoperation/system policy type issues in large networks, but in all other exam areas I felt it provided a thorough prep.

Does EXACTLY what it claims to do!
I found the book to be an invaluable resource in mystudying, and I believe that it is the reason that I was able to passon the first try. There are 8 to 10 exam-type questions at the end of each chapter, and a full 49-question practice exam at the end. That's over 200 test questions - far more than you find in any downloaded practice test.

Having read the caveat above, I used this book in conjunction with other materials, and as I said, was able to pass.

I highly recommend this book.

Good Overview, with Lack of Awareness of Current Practices
The book begins with a beautifully written insightful overview concerning the impact of worlds major religions and philosophies on human consciousness, realizations of our oneness with all, as well as the beauty of the individual's uniqueness and that more of us are will to step back and appreciate our spiritual consciousness from a much broader perspective. That section of the book is easily worth 5 stars. Part IV covers most of man's major transformative practices developed over the course of recorded history and blatantly misleads the reader concerning the effort transformation requires. It is not intentional, but it does indicate a lack of first hand experience on the part of the authors concerning the studies and developments by numerous organizations over the latter half of the 20th Century, much of which overshadows all previous history in effectiveness of the experiential transformative technologies available today. Look up in search engines and experience first hand the leading edge transformative practices available through the Monroe Institute, Star's Edge International, and other consciousness technologies where you can experience powers of consciousness that are more rapid than a thought and very effective. (Example: In January 1999, I healed a 9 year long painful skin rash on myself that doctors couldn't and also woke up with the flu one day, with teeth chattering chills, weak and sweating profusely and completely eliminated it in 5 minutes using modern practices of consciousness. After years of using the familiar practices discussed in this book, it took me about a week to learn the newer practices which have been developed in the last two decades. Asian monks say they achieved more enlightenment in a week with these newer practices than 20 years of meditating in a monastery).

Wanton Prophecy
This book is definitely a leap above the Celestine Prophecy. I like the central theory that peoples are encroching on a awareness of enlightenment. That however is the only misnomer of this book. I believe this is thought due to the intelligent life in the USA, however James is obviously not aware of world mental status. Many nations are in fact moving away from James theory, for example the middle east is reinforcing its traditional religious bonds forsaking evolutionary thought at the spiritual or individual level. I would love to agree with the authors, if I could then this book would be real, but it is not, it is hopeful that the world will wake up, I hope so to, we need more authors like this to enlighten those who are in fact slowing the evolutionary process. Example: September 11th 2001.
I highly recommend a extraordinary book that is real and enlightening, for both world and mental peace, an unpredjudiced write, SB 1 or God by Karl Mark Maddox.

A wonderful overview
This book is an overview of the entire spiritual journey. It is a like a map of human consciousness, covering the evolution of our understanding of God, as well as giving information about every aspect of the spiritual path. It is not a novel (like Celestine Prophecy, etc.), but rather it is a guide to help each person as they increase their awareness of their own spiritual understanding. Redfield and Murhpy present an excellent overview, which I found inspiring, informational, and well-researched.
