Angler's Guide to the Eastern Sierra: (Bridgeport to Bishop)

Trout anglers cannot do without this book!
I've got to say that John Barbier's book has made my fishing trips to the Eastern Sierra not only more fun, but the most productive I've ever had. I carry his book in my creel whenever I make the short trip to the Sierras. This guide is so simple that my 10 year old brother can read and understand it. It plainly goes through Each lake and stream and tells you what type of fish are present there, what will work best to catch these fish, and what won't. You know that you're getting great advice from John because he has personally fished every water in the book many times over the decades that he has been coming to the Sierras. He rates each lake and stream on the fishing productivity as well as the scenery and tells you how to get to each spot. The book is so enjoyable to read because John seems to have such a positive and cheery attitude about everything. Do you want to catch the coveted golden trout for the first time, but don't want to take the strenuous hikes to reach them? John details the easiest golden trout waters to get to. Some of them only an easy 15 minute walk! I believe that anyone who has fished the Eastern Sierras before and is looking for new places to fish, as well as those who've never fished this awesome place should definitely buy this book! It really is the best piece of "fishing equipment" that I have ever picked up. I look forward to the day when I see John Barbier in the Sierra high country to thank him for writing this phenomenal book. Keep Reelin'!

Want to Become Familiar With Eastern Sierra Trout Waters?
....then this is great book for you. Without the stuffiness and formalities of many anglers and angling guides out there, Barbier introduces the reader to a place he has grown to dearly love...the high, Eastern Sierra Trout Waters. This book is especially helpful to the novice and intermediate fly-fisherman who, perhaps unfamiliar with the "Sierra Sweet Spots", are forced to fish the average, run-of-the-mill, lakes and streams that are so often OVER-FISHED by bait and lure fisherman. Never condescending or overly-technical and always with a skip in his step, Barbier introduces us to the beautiful, pristine world of the high Sierra trout. Unselfishly, he shares his most special fishing holes. We too can learn to experience the art of a perfect backcast loop or the thrill of an acrobatic 'bow who took to the size 16 black gnat in the blink of an eye (just like he said it might). Barbier's book is for those who love to flyfish, whether beginner or old-hand. A good man, a great guide. Happy fishing, and maybe I'll see YOU at Saddlebag Lake next summer!

Wonderful Book About a Wonderful Man
"Blessed John the Wonderworker" is a collection of various essays and testimonies of people concerning the life and miracles of St. John Maximovitch. Ever since my introduction to Orthodoxy I have found St. John very intriguing. Perhaps it is because he reposed in 1966, or becaue of his asceticism and miracles or perhaps because his incorrupt relics lie only about an hour from my house. In any case I found this book to be both devotional and informative. Great reading for all Orthodox Christians or for anyone interested in learning about the lives of truly holy people.

Engaging without sentimentality
This examination of the life and miracles of St. John Maximotvich is heartening reading not only for Orthodox Christians, not only for Californians who are blessed to have his relics, not only for North Americans who, unlike other Orthodox Churches in their "western captivity", have been blessed with their own saints, but for anyone who has a compassionate heart. This well written work is the clearest reading of the life of this remarkable man who had the gift of doing "ordinary things in an extraordinary way." Fr. Seraphim's account is neither sentimental nor disengaged, and the best I have read about this saint's life.

The first report on Chinese application on the Internet
One of the most valuable resouce in this book is the first report on an educator, Mr. Fang of San Francisco, who used Internet with his Chinese English Language Learners to communicate with the world in Chinese. When most of the world just heard of the word "World Wide Web," he and his student were already publishing an online secondary school student magazine in Chinese. They also realized live chatting using Chinese characters on AOL. This is really amazing.

An excellent resource for computer application in class
This is yet to be the first complete resource on how to implement computer integration of curriculum in classrooms. When computers are placed into our classrooms, most teachers do not have any idea on how to use them. This book serves as a wonderful resource to guide teachers step by step to set up a successful program. Also, it provides probably the first case study on how ESL students can benefit from computer based instruction in Chinese and how computers process a non-roman language like Chinese.

This is a great book, I highly recommend it to others.
By one of America's Greatest Preachers, this work is his first and surely not to be his last. I just wished that he would publish other sermons, that he has preached over the years. This book ministered to me in ways unimaginable. Bishop, continue to share your gift, with others that might not have the privaledge of hearing you preach.

This book helped get me back on track spiritually.
I have heard Bishop Bryant preach and his wisdom of the Word of God and his love for empowering people motivated me to buy this book. I am glad I did. The sermons in this book make the scriptures easy to understand and to apply to every day life struggles. It renewed my faith and my boldness as a Christian. If anyone is going through a storm or just in need of a spiritual revival this book will do it. Bishop Bryant incorporates poetic language, prophetic power, pastoral love, and every day situations to remind us of God's power. I highly recommend this book to all believers and to all those in search of God.

The Best!
Use this book and you will make wonderful pies! Our family loves the apple pie and the chocolate cream and the banana cream. But the best thing is the crust recipe. You'll get a reputation for really knowing how to make pies! This is a succinct little book at a minimal price. My only surprise is that they did not use Clearjel as a thickener. It's Great!

How To Make A Pie
By following the directions in this book, I made my first successful pie after numerous semi-failures. Not only is the book thorough, it tells which ingredients work best (i.e. a combination of butter and shortening for a tender and tasty crust), and why one method is better than another. The pie recipes include a number of types. I want to try them all.

A life-changing book that everyone should read
I am in a relationship such as this book describes. It's been a real struggle, because neither my friend nor I knew what to call it, what to do with our feelings for each other, or how to handle his marital relationship, our friends and colleagues, etc. We knew we cared for each other in deeper and more profound ways than "just friends," but his sincere commitment to his marriage prevented us from considering a sexual relationship. It was difficult and disorienting. All we could see were the two boxes--friend or lover--into which society wants to force all relationships. If we could not fit into either box, what was left? We did not want to give up our relationship, but the strains were severe.

I read Scudder and Bishop's book with shock after shock of recognition. And I think others will, as well. Anyone who either has strong feelings for someone of the opposite sex or who is interested in pursuing more meaningful, less surface-oriented relationships in their lives SHOULD READ THIS BOOK. It has already made a profound difference not only in the way I view this particular important relationship in my life, but also in the way I view ALL relationships.

Thanks to this book, I can see now that human culture has tended to define relationships so rigidly that profound, significant love relationships that do not fit into society's pre-determined categories fail to be validated in the vital ways (emotional, intellectual, spiritual) they should be validated, regardless of the gender of the people involved. And that's such a waste. Love should be savored, valued, and nurtured, no matter how it happens to come to you and no matter the gender of the beloved.

Timeless Musical Play Provides Unique Profile of Famous Ace
John Gray's play, a musical tribute to Canada's famous WWI ace Billy Bishop, VC, first performed in the 1970s, has become a classic of the Canadian theatre. It is still being performed in many places in North America, as well as other parts of the world, by theatre groups, and John Gray and Eric Peterson recently (within the past year or so) reprised their roles in "Billy Bishop Goes To War" on stage for a new generation of Canadians. The play is not only entertaining but also reasonably historically accurate, and the music is excellent. The play is sophisticated in its treatment of the subject, hilarious in places, and rather moving. When it was first performed, quite a few World War One flyers were still around to see the play, and many of them gave it high marks. It would have been fun to know what Bishop would have thought of it, had he lived into his eighth decade. The book is recommended, but make sure to see the play if it comes to your neighbourhood. By the way, Gray has also written a musical on the life of woman flyer Amelia Earhart.

Deep In The Heart Of The Countryside
Bishop's Stortford is one of those lazy country towns England is famous for. Halfway between London and the university city of Cambridge it has educated the boys and girls of farmers, city brokers, university lectures and bakers alike, and can count among its former pupils international sportsmen and the current head of the UK Security service, MI5. This detailed book, written to commemorate a century of education is a brilliant insight into the reality of English Public School education in the middle of the 20th century.

Simply X-cellent !
This book features Bishop vs. Mountjoy his arch-enemy from the same timeline as him. Mountjoy is a mutant and a homocidal killer on a rampage through New York. I would give the artwork 200% if there was even such a thing. This also shows a lot about Bishop's character and was one of his first limited series. If you are a Bishop fan, then this is a definitely must buy!
