Good sci-fi from Piers Anthony
Cluster is the first book in a 5-book sci fi series from Piers Anthony. It is highly recommended for entertainment. Follow the adventures of Flint, a cave-man in a futuristic universe. The alien species created by Mr. Anthony are very interesting both culturally and anatomically. The commentary on inter-species prejudice is a valuable reflection upon modern society. This is a short book, about 300 pages.

Cluster is a Great futureistic book!
The characters in this book are great. I would recomend it to anyone.

A really good book
Cluster is a very in depth book that alows you to imagen about aura's and host bodies. An all around good book.

A controls B controls C controls A controls B...
Definitely one of the best sci-fi books I have ever read, and especially commendable because of its early year. The book examines morality on an interplanetary scale, and puts the question to all of us: to what means would we resort if overpopulation became a matter of extinction? (shudder) You try to answer it, I'm not courageous enough.

First contact many moons ago! Got me Hooked!
First Anthony book I read, more years ago than I like! Next time I saw his name in a bookstore, I bought it. Never been disappointed!

Glad to Be a Human
This is an unusual story in this day and age, because it encourages the idea that there is an unquenchable spark of something unique and powerful in us earthlings. Twisting plot, space battles as well as battles on the ground, and pride at the victors, as well as admiration of the "aliens" who hoped for, recognized, and nurtured earthlings talent for chaos lead me to recommend this paperback to SF beginners.

Enjoyable, but not as refreshing as the first one
The concept behing the Geodessy is compeling and the first book was great. This one didn't add that much to it.

I do admire the way Anthony changed his focus. This novel focuses on the role of the family and family members in struggle. This is not as dynamic or suspenseful a focus as that of Isle of Woman and therefore the book lacks a little in the suspense department. You will probably always know what the characters will do - they stick together 'cause their a family.

That being said, the stories are fun and the concept behind the book still carries it further than you'd expect (the concept of the same characters being reborn in various places and times).

If you like Isle of Woman, you'll probably like this one. If you thought it was so-so, you may be in for a long, dull night.

Illuminates eight million years of history
The second Geodyssey volume from Piers Anthony, 'Shame of Man' follows the lives of Hugh and Ann, illuminating as they do eight million years of history. The self-contained formula of 'Isle of Woman' is maintained; however, characters from that novel usefully return as occasional backdrop. The scenery remains wonderfully varied, with the narrative opening in the Great Rift Valley and continuing as far afield as Vietnam, Newfoundland and Scotland's Orkney Islands. The strongest of the twenty scenarios occurs 3,000 years ago, around the time of King David. Anthony's choice of Philistine characters here illustrates his approach: he doesn't always avoid the history textbooks' ground, but is nonetheless loath to retread conventional paths. Thus we see Japan visited in the third century AD, and on Genghis Khan's rise to fame we see an enemy's colossal misjudgment where other authors might substitute triumphant slaughter. The requisite Mediterranean setting is not Rome but New Carthage; similarly, when the story touches down in 1862 the siege is not of Richmond but of Shanghai, where millions died in the Taiping rebellion.Anthony expresses concern that global catastrophe lurks around the corner, and this is brought home to the reader most clearly in the microcosm of Easter Island (neatly sandwiched between Genghis and Scheherazade). Indeed, even the characters gradually become aware of it. The future of the sensible ones is glimpsed in Tasmania half a century hence. The use to which they put their technology, and their need to do so, is rich food for thought.

It changed my outlook on life. Highly recommended!
This book really makes you think about how our insticts guide us and human existence in general. It caused me to realize a lot of things I had taken for granted. Excellent!

Prostho Plus ¿ Intergalactic Dentistry at its¿ BEST!
Piers Anthony is best known for his popular fantasy / comedy series Xanth, but before he became bogged down in the puns of Xanth, he wrote some great science fiction and fantasy of world class. "Prostho Plus" is one of those really great books.

What sets this book apart in the spirit of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is that the protagonist is an unlikely dentist catapulted off terrestrial Earth into the highly dangerous field of intergalactic dentistry. Dr. Dillingham, the human dentist, is propelled from alien mouth to alien mouth performing badly needed procedures for xenoforms in pain. The book is hilarious and Anthony's ideas about alien mouths are both interesting and innovative.

I highly recommend this very amusing and well-written novel!

The book that turned me on to Piers Anthony
I originally read this book when it was new. Browsing an airport book stand for a sci-fi to read, the jacket design caught my eye. I followed this with reading the blurbs: "Can a mild-mannered dentist from Earth make it in the high-powered world of galactic dentistry?" Sounded like fun. I was completely unfamiliar with Piers Anthony's works before this. He subsequently became one of my favorite authors.

This story of dentistry was totally out there!
When I first started reading this book I was pretty doutfull, but as I read more I found myself not wanting it to end.

cool but..
Piers Anthony is one of my favorite fantasy authors. I'm a fan of his Xanth series, so naturally I felt compelled to pick up this book.

Penn & Chandelle are grandparents of a wild teenage girl, so they rent a house where they could spend some time with their granddaughter. The house is quite unusual.

The backdoor opens up to different worlds, the house is conscious and stocks itself with stuff that Penn & Chandelle like. Everything from food, clothing, hobbies, interests, tv, internet, anything that they need and want.

There is a holographic window that changes setting, and the house can "travel" to different locations in the world.

Soon their wild granddaughter Lynn joins them, along with her cousin Lloyd and his dob Obsidian. Penn, Chandelle, Lynn, Lloyd & Obsidian are soon discovering the house's many secrets and mysteries...

What's the house for? What does it want from its occupants? Well I sure am not going to tell you, your going to have to read to find out. I really liked how Piers Anthony weaved the story. He doesn't give anything away and the house's purpose is revealed in the last pages.

This book is somewhat risque with sex references, its not dirty but its somewhat risque. Kinda like when movies have sexual jokes, references, etc. I'd recommend it for older teens & adults.

I loved this book, but . .
Piers Anthony is one of my favorite writers, and I don't think I have read anything by him that I disliked. This book is great, a chance to solve intriguing puzzles along with the characters in the book, which I enjoy. As he does frequently in other stories, Mr. Anthony shifts points of view between chapters, to round out the story. I volunteer with teenagers, and I kept thinking that this would be a great book for them, except for one part which gets a little explicit about some sex and torture. It's not "dirty", it's not tawdry, it's realistic and gritty, and I would think twice about letting young teenagers read it, which is really a shame. Otherwise, this would be a great book to read at the same time as teens and could start some great discussions.

A fun to read work of science fiction
Chandelle and Penn have moved to Philadelphia for the summer so they can give their daughter some relief from her rebellious fifteen-year old offspring. They rent a house unlike any other anywhere on the planet because the home contains unique features. The back door leads to different times in earth's past while the front door enables travel to almost any city on the planet. When their granddaughter shows up, she is so enchanted and curious by the house that Lynn reveals the secrets of the house they know and love.

Since Chandelle is uneasy about being alone in the house or outside it, they arrange for Lynn's first cousin Lloyd and his Doberman Obsidian to stay with them. In the attic they find alien artifacts that allow them to understand any language and transmit a sound so if anyone goes missing it will be easy to find them. They keep finding out something new and vital about the house every day. The only questions left to answer are what is the purpose of the house and what does it want with them.

Adults and teens will definitely enjoy reading REALITY CHECK, a work that is pure entertainment. Readers will delight in solving the riddles of the house and empathize with the characters, as they stumble the hard way into learning the different facets of the house. Piers Anthony has written a work that is fresh, original and fascinating, but readers need to check their reality prior to entering the front page.

Phthor

Classic Piers Anthony
Phthor is certainly one of Anthony's better works, written during his more prolific period, and serving as a reminder that there's much more to Piers Anthony than Xanth. While Chthon is the preferable book in the series (there are 4, the first two written by Mr. Anthony himself, the latter two written by Charles Platt), Phthor holds its own as a good sequel. The subject matter is dark, and often frank (in the case of many of the main characters' perennial nudity), and presents many interesting themes throughout.

Worth the time, especially if you've read (and enjoyed) Chthon.

Phthor is a very good book
I really liked this book. The main character, Arlo, was pretty cool and the minionettes were also intriguing. Their inverse emotion telepathy was confusing at first, but once I got into the book, I understood it. This is a very good book. Read it, you'll enjoy it.

Wild post armageddon saga
It's the tale of a mutated man in a world of barbarians. His adventure is filled with a rollercoaster of events. Should be read with "SOS the rope", and "Neq the sword"

Part of the Battle Circle trilogy, well done.
As most of Peirs 'themes', the first book in this series is simply amazing, the second is wonderful, and the third is merely great. *smile* Read this series if you enjoy his writing. This book (and the series in particular) is very imaginitive and a joy to read.

Swell Foop
Another Xanth addition. This book was pretty good, though, not THE best Piers Anthony book. As always, this book is full and packed with puns and that Piers' "silly humor".
Basically the story is: The Demon Earth has been kidnapped and without him the world of Xanth will be without gravity. The result: Xanth flies off into space and all the Xanth creatures float away. Bad Bad! So the next person to pose a question to the good Magician, will be the person who is given the task of finding the Demon Xanth because only a Non-demon can find a demon. Anyway the person who shows up with a question is a flying centaur named Cynthia and she must find 6 people to help her find the swell foop (the only thing that can control demons).
So overall a good book with quite a few of the recurring characters. Such as the Simurghs son, Sim, and Justin Tree and his beloved Breanna of the black wave. Oh yeah and lots of talk about cleavage and lovely female bodies. (as always) LOL

There's no Place Like Xanth...
I have finished Swell Foop and I can't wait to get Piers Anthony's next book. I have read the Xanth series from the first book (Spell...). I would really recomend any of Piers' books to any one if they love puns and Fantasy. You can start on any book you want, but if you like to read stories that go some where you should start with the first one.

A great Read.
I love Piers Anthony's Xanth novels. This one my favorite next to Demons don't dream and Zombie lover.
Awesome.

But What of Earth?

Good story plus the Great, Scary story of the first edition.

A short, unexceptional novel of some horrible future of Earth, But What of Earth? is quite fascinating. The original novel is OK. Nothing to write home about. Ahhh, but the book also contains two other treats, both much worth writing home about.

When Piers Anthony sold the story originally, things went wrong. What was published was horrible and mainly not what he had sent in. Not to mention the fact of another writer's name also on the book. In many footnotes, Piers tells us of the many, many changes to his novel as recorded in various inks & handwritings on the manuscript. The story of the evil forces destroying his book, line by line is quite fascinating.

The other bonus treat is the story of what the novel is about. Mixed in with the footnotes of changes are glimpses into the author's purposes. This improves my enjoyment of the novel as it connects things together that I would have missed until a later re-reading, which, honestly, might never have happened.

Fair novel with adventure and insight into the world of writing, publishing and creativity. Not Piers' best, but it is worth some time, especially if writing interests you.

An amusing look into the Publishing Industry<P>
But What of Earth was an early novel of Anthony's published when he had little say on the finished product. He had to buy back the rights to produce this volume, and it illustrates that what you read may not be anywhere near what the author intended.

But What of Earth? The Novel is about mass migration off the planet Earth to space colonies and how it effects those unable to afford the trip. The actual story is secondary to the way it is presented.

In this book the story is printed the way Anthony originally had written it. Anthony includes notation detailing the changes made, who made them and insight into their personalities base on their comments.

If you enjoy Anthony's authors notes in his other books then this is a must read

A deeper look into a possible future
A story about a bleak future for human kind.

The story is more of a warning to the reader as to what could happen to our society if the current trend of disassociation, disregard, and irresponsibility continues.

"But what of Earth" proposes an escape from this reality with the advent of matter transmission. However it is this easy escape that enlightens the characters to realization that what is left of Earth is worth saving.

A great story, with thought provoking ideas and concepts. It is a journey of discovery where the destination is that of the value of home, health and self.

The book also presents the ways in which storys and novels are frequently mutalated to such an extent where the focus is lost. These added editorial comments add to the understanding of the literary process.

With every time I have read "But What of Earth" I have found more meaning and hidden truths. It is a book that can be read and enjoyed many times. For anyone that enjoys a sci-fi story, with a reasonable basis in real life, I can only say that this is a must read novel.
