Love It!
This book in my opinion is terrific! I loved the first one and loved this one. Including the third. I really can't wait 'till the fourth comes out. I think that this book is exciting and thrilling, along with some suspensful and romantic moments. If i were to sugest it to anyone I would be falling over my self with details about the book.

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book is really good. Claidi has been taken away from her beloved Argul right before the wedding. She is taken to a place called the Rise and makes some unexpected discoveries. Those discoveries i will not reveal thats why you need to read this book. By the end of the story she makes her way back to Argul and it ends there while she is in the sky drawing closer to her bethrothed and beloved Argul. After this book comes the third in its series(Wolf Queen). I really suggest you read it and find out what happens.

TOPS ANY BOOK I'VE EVER READ!
I'm 14 years old. (today is my b-day, in fact! ^_^) This is the all-time greatest book I have ever read. I can't help but love the charachters... five stars isn't enough! I can't express to you how awesome this book is... I discovered these books on my own, but I think they'd be the perfect present for almost any teenage girl who loves fantasy, romance, and an all around great book! I can't imagine how anyone would find this book boring. But first you'll need to get WOLF TOWER. The first book in the series.

The Author Explains
I met the author of this book when he came and talked to my College English class. He is an Irish man who lost his wife to the disease that is mentioned in the book. His wife left him and a young daughter. He told us that this book is about his village and his imagination of turning the wolf disease into a werewolf story. He said that he never wanted to show the wolf in the book because he was a fan of old black and white movies where you really never saw the werewolf only what the wolf had done during the night. Interesting man

Are you sure the door is locked?
This story had me pretty creeped out. Is it possible to feel so frightened and yet not feel you are totally "getting it"? This story takes place in Ireland, but not the Ireland of any tourist brochures, heh-heh...The main character is a young woman who is suffering from Lupus. Her mother is perpetually depressed, her aunt is rather odd. Strange events are occuring in the village. Sheep are disappearing, the mountains are oddly quiet. The book left me feeling so uneasy yet I felt I didn't totally understand what was happening, which is a pretty disconcerting feeling to someone who loves to read. Yet, maybe that was the author's intention, to leave the reader frightened, unsure and questioning....I am going to re-read this book, I feel I must...

A classic adventure story
Mel Ellis was the first author to really grab my attention. Like most kids I only read the books that were assigned to me by my teachers. For my first independent book review I ended up choosing Flight of the White Wolf. What a book! The story of Russ and his wolf was a neverending adventure. It is the book that the reader won't put down. Mel Ellis had me daydreaming for weeks. This is a book that should be available to every child. Let them live the adventure and give them something that they will enjoy reading.

Who's this book for, anyway?
Who's this book for, anyway? Kids who speak Yiddish? Bubbies and Zeidies feeling nostalgic? (doubt they read Milne as kids, though) Jewish Buddhists who want to read the original stories behind the "Tao of Pooh" in the language of their ancestors?

I have a sneaking suspicion that most purchases of this book will be as a "gag" gift item, and for that, it's perfect. Certainly, it's not readable as Yiddish literature (due to the transliteration), despite Wolf's well-meaning translation. Why go to the effort of translating if you're not going to present the finished product in a form Yiddish speakers can actually comprehend???

(the two stars above are for the effort of translating -- the three stars it lost are for assuming we don't understand the Yiddish alphabet)

So if you want to buy it as a joke, go ahead. Otherwise, you're going to be disappointed. As a fan of Milne's original Winnie-the-Pooh books (but NOT the "Disneyfied" versions), I picked this book up with curiousity, but realized before I got sucked into buying it that it's not what I was hoping it would be. Pheh.

In fact, forget I said go ahead. Save your money, and don't encourage whoever published this -- what's the Yiddish word? Ah, yes -- this "fershtunkene" book.

Terrific translation
I was both delighted and very impressed with Leonard Wolf's Yiddish version of "Winnie the Pooh". The Yiddish text is excellent - the language is so natural that reading it I had the impression that the Hundred-Acre Wood and all its inhabitants were located in Eastern Europe! There were expressions in the text that I hadn't heard since I was a child in New York. An excellent piece of work.

An excellent translation
Since none of the reviews that I read here addressed the quality of the translation, I thought I'd say a few words about that.

I thought the translation was EXCELLENT! Wolf has a real feel for Yiddish expression. In reading this book I actually had the sense that the entire Hundred-Acre-Wood and its inhabitants were all Eastern European Jews! There were turns of phrase that I hadn't heard since I was a child in New York.

Yes, I suppose it would've been nice to have the whole text in Hebrew letters. But translation is such a difficult task, and this was SUCH a nice job, so why complain?

Not the actual book!
I ordered what I thought was the book, but received an audio CD instead. I can't take the CDs to class.

Magnificent and thoughtful 2nd year text; full of activities
This is a superb book for use in a lively second-year Spanish college classroom. It is not meant for independent use; it's not a teach-yourself Spanish book. It's an instructor's dream as it is loaded with realistic activities that students can actually perform in class and that are interesting. The chapters are quite thought provoking and the grammar activities are well designed and paced throughout the text. I highly recommend this text.

Good Spanish textbook
It's a textbook, but it's a good one if you want to learn Spanish. A reviewer shouldn't give a book one star because he ended up with the audio version instead of the actual book.

I Just Love Sequals!
I waited a long time for this book to come out in paperback. The story of Maeniel is a powerful one. Way back in the fog of time, during the reign of Julius Ceasar, a wolf became a man. His animal innocence was destroyed when he joined the ranks of humanity. Maeniel learned treachery, cruelty, hate, jealousy, and a whole bunch of other horrible human traits. But he also learned love, a very good characteristic to have. Sent to kill Caesar, this wolf/man runs into lots of trouble and makes new friends. It is a wonderfully complex story.

This novel is the sequal to The Silver Wolf, one of my all-time favorite books. I have been waiting impatiently for the past year or so for this book to come out in paperback so I could buy it. I will admit it's kind of hard to follow sometimes, so you might have to go back and read it again, but then again i'm not that much of a history person and so didn't pick up on everything the first time around. I was hoping that the story would include the characters from The Silver Wolf, but they were not present. Romantic that I am, I wanted to see what would happen between Regeane and Maenial, but I guess I'll just have to wait for the next one to come out.

I highly reccomend this to anyone and everyone, for it is a wonderfully written tale.

A delightful historical fantasy
The Druids worry as the forces of Julius Caesar's troops overwhelm the island. Desperate to save their heritage, Archdruid Mir sends assassin Dryas to kill Caesar. However, before departing for Rome, Dryas must murder the werewolf Maeniel who has brutalized the Celts and the Romans when his beloved Imona vanished after a battle. Maeniel searches for his missing lover who taught him to embrace his human side as much as his wolf side.

However, instead of slaying the shapechanger, Dyras becomes a partner to Maeniel. Traveling together, they journey onto the continent, heading to the Imperial City for a final confrontation with Caesar on the Ides of March.

NIGHT OF THE WOLF is an interesting dark mixing of history, Shakespeare, and fantasy into an entertaining tale. The story line is filled with action, but slows down when Dryas provides soliloquies on a woman's right to hold any job such as soldier and assassin. References from the Bard add to the tale, yet the characters of Caesar and his wife seem stale. Maeniel makes the novel as his dual personality fight in a way that modern psychiatry would enjoy observing. That split personality ever warring with itself turns the NIGHT OF THE WOLF into a fun to read historical fantasy.

Worthy successor to Eclipse of the Kai
The immediate sequel to Eclipse of the Kai, The Dark Door Opens builds onto the storyline of its predecessor. The writing cannot compare too well against the later books in the series, when John Grant has a firmer foothold with this line, but there are some memorable moments. The tension-charged confrontation between Vonotar the Traitor and the Guildmaster, the firestorm attack upon the city of Toran, and the flight to Holmgard are highlights of this book.

A Great Read
The Dark Door Opens take place immediately after the first Legends book, Eclipse of the Kai. It begins with the young hero, Silent Wolf, who has just changed his name to Lone Wolf, fleeing the desetruction of the Monastery where those of his order had trained for centuries. Lone Wolf is now the last of his order, the Kai, and must make his way to the capital of Sommerlund to warn the king that the Darklords have destroyed the Kai. And so, he makes a treacherous journey on foot and horse, through forest and stream, hills and ancient hallowed grounds before the spires of Holmgard are visible. But he is not alone, another young man, Banedon of the Magician's Guild at Toran has also learnt of the destruction of the Kai and becomea spiritual brother to Lone Wolf. Banedon must return to his guild and convince those present to take action. Meanwhile, the forces of darkness await the two would-be heroes around every corner, plotting their destruction and a fall of Sommerlund. Vonotar the Traitor's treachery and betrayal of his homeland has caused the downfall and almost complete extermination of the Kai, and only Lone Wolf has the abilities to stop him...before it is too late.

Do I Eat You Little Duck, or Not??
I found this book to be a little misleading...I loved the illustrations - they are darling and sweet and well done. But I found the story line a little too much for my 4 year old. The story is about a wolf who raises a baby duck - not because she loves it, but in order to fatten it up and make a nice juicy dinner for herself. Should I eat it now, or wait until it's bigger so it makes a bigger meal? I know, I know...real wolves eat real ducks in the real world, but I felt uncomfortable reading this storyline to my child at this point. Maybe for ages 5 or 6 and up.
