Keith Vaughan 1912-1977: Drawings of the Young Male
Published in Paperback by Heretic Books (1903)
Authors: Philip Graham and Keith Vaughan
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

A Master of the Male Form
Keith Vaughan was one of Britain's most prolific and talented artists and a master of the male form. His exhibited works were austere abstracts featuring male bodies, but this book reveals his more intimate approach to the nude. It's highly recommended to any fan of the male body in art. The drawings won't disappoint, but I would point out that it is really only a small catalogue, with limited editorial.

An excellent world Atlas.
As with most atlases, this book divides the world into various regions, some as small as countries (e.g. Western Africa, Oceania, France, etc.) The book has many colorful topographical maps as well as pictures of important locations, animals, activities and/or native dress. Interestingly, each one contains a picture of a native dish. At the end of the book is a chart of facts and figures, organized by continent, which includes the following information: country, area, population, capital, official language, currency, and major products.

I bought this atlas for my children sight unseen, and do not regret it in the least. My small children (6 and 8) like it, and the depth of information it contains is sure to make the book useful for years to come. I recommend it absolutely.

Stuart Smalley meets Generation X
This author is obviously very in tune with the struggles facing our generation in an extremely humorous fashion. Tracy Phillips has her finger on the pulse of 20 and 30 year olds. The author takes us on a ride we won't soon forget. My advice to you is buy this book and do your friends a favor and buy them one also. Laugh out loud funny.

Excellent introduction to games from around the world!
This book includes a small number of mathematical games integrated into comprehensively planned learning experiences. The games are well described, and the lesson plans look very useful. Just the games themselves are worth getting.

Great book
Well written and illustrated story developed around a family of Troodon dinosaurs. The story is quite exciting, but still based on known excavated fossil sites, to make it more of an educational style of fiction. Good for kids though to adults.

Photo History of World War One

Comprehensive Series of World War One Photographs
Covering the period 1914-1918 this book contains more than 450 photographs of war torn Europe. The book is hardcover, covered black, with a dustjacket depicting a picture of British Infantry storming German trenches. (I thought it unusual that the cover had a picture on it when the book was a photohistory). The photographs in the book are showing their age somewhat, with many of them being rather blurry and fading, but overall they still convey the scene being photographed adequately. The plethora of photographs are all numbered with a small black diamond pointing to the actual photograph, which is useful given the number of photographs that can appear on any given page. Each photograph has a caption which in general is comprehensive, given the little space left in the book after the photographs. While photography dominates the book, there are sections outlining 'Orders of battle', 'Organizational Tables' and 'Weapons, Badges and Insignia'. Overall, this is a very interesting book and certainly one that will appeal to persons with an interest in the period. Recommended.

Return Via Rangoon : A young Chindit survives the jungle and Japanese captivity
Published in Paperback by White Lotus Co., Ltd. (1995)
Author: Philip G. Stibbe
Amazon base price: $25.00
Average review score:

GREAT STORY of survival! READ IT!
The author's account of his work in Orde Wingate's legendary Chindits (WWII British guerilla unit in the Far East) and his subsequent imprisonment and enslavement by the Japanese is fast-paced, inspiring and surprisingly big-hearted. The picture given of Wingate himself captures much of the enigma of this great man-- a Christian fundamentalist wholly given to a conflict-at-arms. The narration is classic British understatement and self-deprecation. Thus, it is HIGHLY readable.

RECOMMENDED! AL

Beautiful photos abound
Round Buildings, Square Buildings, Buildings That Wiggle Like A Fish won't fit into the curriculums of many schools but its appearance in 1988 earned it high recommendation as a basic introduction for all ages, to the world of architecture. This reprint of Round Buildings, Square Buildings, Buildings That Wiggle Like A Fish invites new generations to take a different look at the buildings we use. Beautiful photos abound.
