I was looking for a book that could help me learn how to cut hair, this was not it. It may be a valuable book for people who already know how to cut hair but I found it to be fairly useless for beginners. It contains very little text and a lot of drawings which aren't really explained. Don't buy this book unless you already know how to cut hair.

This book is only meant for those with formal training in haircutting. It is a good reference book for students and fresh graduates of cosmetology. The diagrams were understood by me (I am a student at a local cosmetology school) but would confuse the average person. It is published by the same company who publishes our textbook, and I believe it was meant as purely a supplemental book to our basic education at cosmetology school.

This book was a serious disappointment to me. Many academics rely on their privileged charges to reflect back the unearned claim of "radicalism" (you can't get less radical than settling down in a wealthy venerable institution that advantages affluent youth), and this book is a funny example. The author seems to think that if students talk about politics while spending several dozen dollars per hour for classroom instruction, that they will genuinely become "radicalized", rather than merely prattling the kind of talk that even right-wingers understand is pseudo-radical. I once heard this author give an unintentionally comic lecture about software development in various minority languages in India, and he couldn't have got the situation more backwards (as an NRI myself, I wanted to tell him that yes indeed there is a lack of "language tolerance" in much of India, that specifically disadvantages the poor, the rural, the dialect-speaker.) But this book is another example of an academic listening to only himself while caricaturizing hundreds of millions of people, in the most ludicrous fashion. Affluent white quasi-leftists residing in wealthy universities should ask themselves if perhaps they aren't projecting their own convenient biases upon people they've never stooped to meet - it never hurts to ask oneself such questions, does it?

Besides the fact that the illustrations are lousy, the book doesn't teach you any variations on using the razor, or special techniques...it basically just shows how to section off and do the cuts, they might as well be showing you how to do cuts with regular shears. Waste of money.
