Fabulous Read
This book is very cleverly written with fabulous characters! The set up of the story, a man whose embittered wife decides to sell his prize posession, his horse, for dogfood. The entire novel covers a variety of humorous, quirky events all ocurring on the expedition out to save his horse. I highly recommend this book to all... it made me laugh out loud.

A great, warm, technically inclined hippy book on wood heat
I picked this book up used in Ithaca, NY, in 1992 or so, with the intention of giving it as a gift, but fell in love with it, not just for all the great information on how to run a wood stove efficiently, but for the charming digressions, the stories, the line and ink illustrations, the New Englandy feel of it all, and for the warm brotherly tone of the writing. The tragedy is that in the 10 years between buying it and installing my first wood stove, I lost the book. The redemption is that I've found a used copy here for under $5!

Any one of the digressions alone is enough to justify purchase of this book: there are discussion on how to get timber out of the forest, when to buy firewood, what a wood fired zamboni is like, etc. etc. etc.

Buy a copy of this book while it's still available, even if you don't have a wood stove. By the time you're done reading it, you'll want one!

Simply Brilliant
I was deeply touched by the brilliant works of poetry. Woods shows great potential, it is hard to believe this is his first published work. Anyone who loves poetry will enjoy this book.

a must for beginners
When I wanted to learn how to woodcarve, I checked this book out from the library and found it so helpful that I bought it. It guides the beginner through all of the necessary skills, like picking out tools and wood, sharpening tools, the basic cuts, etc., then it goes on to show how to do a woodcarving, using detailed instructions and very helpful diagrams and pictures. Other books that I looked at recommended buying large expensive materials (such as an electric grindstone and a full workbench) but this book starts you off with just the bare essentials and allows you to work up at your own pace.

William C. Wood scores an A+
Dr. Wood's Christian guide to managing money is refreshingly simple and very well written. "Getting a Grip on Your Money" tackles the tough financial questions and delivers plain, easy to follow advice, relying on the principle that the perfect is the enemy of the good. This book is a must have for anyone, Christian or non-, who wants to make the most of their financial resources.

a pleasure to read
This is truly a wonderful book, of original fairy tales accompanied by charming pen and ink drawings. Although they are fairy tales, you won't find any frogs to be kissed, or dancing princeses, or even any neatly concluded "happily ever afters". You will get five unique and very different stories, told with exquisite style, and a belief in the wonder and magic of life. My 10 year old son thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I liked it as much as he did. Highly recommended.

A story which captures the imagination
I first read this story several years ago and over time, it has remained vividly in my memory. I can recall scenes and dialogues and picture the images painted by Ms. Williams' words in my mind. Katie's story draws you in before you realize it and you are swept into the mountain country of Arizona in the Old West, struggling along side an orphaned family. Ms. Williams brings the era and the people alive, touching fiction with history. Almost all the characters, especially Katie and Bill, offer something of interest to the reader - you get the sense that each has his or her own story. "Home Mountain" is a sweet story (a bit unrealistic), a historical romance without a doubt, but something about it lingers. It is a tale of the strength of spirit, of family and of love and if you enjoy historical stories, it is worth a read.

Fealty vs. Honor in Medieval England!
This is the tale of Ralph de Aix of Normandy and of William Rufus-King of England. Ralph is a huntsman who desires knighthood and eventually lands of his own. He finds he cannot achieve his goal anytime soon in Normandy with his present lord and decides to look elsewhere for advancement. Advancement comes in the shape and guise of William Rufus, son of William the Bastard of Normandy. Ralph really cares about Rufus, on a genuine level of friendship, but is willing to do what it takes to succeed at court. Rufus, not known for normal "appetites" is attracted to Ralph and their strange relationship begins. Ralph endures Rufus in the hope of being granted lands after knighthood.

A run down Chenna's Tun is his "reward" for "services rendered." However, he tries to make a go of it and with current knowledge of the god Herne, becomes involved in the Saxon cult where he becomes a "lord" in his own right. There is much action and mystery involved in his life but not much money. He wants a wife and in time finds one who is, in the beginning, reluctant to leave her childhood home. As time goes on, things do not improve. Weather and health disasters are a never ending concern and many people hunt the "royal deer" in order not to starve. This brings about the most important role Ralph will ever play in his life, starring Rufus and Rufus' younger brother Count Henry, soon to become King Henry I of England.

Medieval life is brought realistically back to life as is a lessor known religious cult. Anand's style of writing keeps the reader emeshed in a life of intrigue, mystery, danger, and scandal, in the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries. Many of her novels are out-of-print but are well worth the search! They transport the reader back into time.

The Logical Lexicon--BETTER than Wm. Wood thinks!
Author Bill Wood tells you that I have my "own reasons" for wanting to see you scoop up the few remaining copies of this, the best book he and I ever collaborated upon. Quite simply, take it from me, this is the BEST book you have never heard of and don't own! This is BETTER than "War and Peace" and you can get through it much faster! It's DIRTIER than "Tropic of Cancer" if you use your imagination, FUNNIER than Mel Brooks, DEEPER than Thomas Pynchon, and MORE CYNICAL than the complete works of H.L. Mencken! Plus not only is the wordsmithing marvelous but the drawings are just heart-warming! And it is a rare opportunity to see the EARLY WORK of two creative masters from way back in the Twentieth Century! And believe me, I am in no way swayed by the fact that I helped put this marvelous tome together. I would have loved it even if I didn't work on it! Besides, Bill has been reduced to selling pencils on his remote Northwestern island and needs your support.......
