An exceptional exhibition of turned wood
The principals of the Del Mano Gallery have presented an excellent photographic rendition of the extraordinary craftsmanship exhibited at their Los Angeles (Brentwood) gallery.
While the photo illustrations are excellent, the photos do not do justice to the actual visual representation of each piece. These works of art need to be seen first individually in order to appreciate their craftsmanship.

Lush, colorful artworks revolutionizing modern painting
Paul Gauguin was at the heart of the Post-Impressionist movement with his lush, colorful artworks revolutionizing modern painting a the turn of the 19th Century. Largely self-taught in a diversity of media including oil painting, printmaking, and ceramics, Gauguin came to his career as a Parisian artist relatively late in life, and went on to paint subjects drawn from where he would live ranging from Brittany and Martinique, to Tahiti, and the Marquesas islands. In Gauguin, art expert Britt Salvesen drew from research developed by Douglas W. Druick and Peter Kort Zegers, enhanced with 79 superbly presented illustrations of which 52 are in color and 27 are duotone. Gauguin is a very highly recommended addition to personal, academic, and community library art history reading lists and reference collections in general, as well as being strongly commended to students of the life and work of Paul Gauguin in particular.

A glimpse at the personal side of Irish music
This book has it's focus not on the development and playing of Irish traditional music, but on the people who play it. An outstanding narrative of a musician that is inspirational to anyone who plays this music. Also full of beautiful photography that shows the reader what Irish music is in the session, and how it was meant to be seen/heard.

A must for all high school science teachers!
This book should accompany any science text book because it is a reality check for teachers. The research is clear and comprehensive - no holds barred! After reading it from cover to cover I immediately modified my teaching practice. I reassessed my assumptions about what students know and can do then and changed course. I have a greater appreciation for my students' views and misconceptions and now my job is to steer them straight - or better still, to coach them to construct their own science knowledge and skills.
Mirkwood (Middle-Earth Role Playing)
Published in Paperback by Iron Crown Enterprises (1995)
Amazon base price: $25.00

Quality supplement
This book by Iron Crown is a quality addition to the middle earth roleplaying world - it combines excellent material with an easily understandable, logical presentation pattern. I personally find Mirkwood the most fascinating area of Middle Earth, and to be able to acts within it is great fun. Dwarf, elf or hobbit; no character should be without a bit of first hand experience under the portentious bowers of this ancient forest. If you only buy one supplement for the MERP game system, this should be it!

A remarkable photographic showcase
Enhanced with an informative essay by Lucy R. Lippard, Peter Gourfain: Clay, Wood, Bronze, And Works On Paper by features Russell Panczenko's interview with Peter Gourfain and is a remarkable photographic showcase of the unique and extrinsic drawings and sculptures of that minimalist expert. Some of the images are in color, but most photographs are black-and-white in this extensive and recommended collection in celebration of Peter Gourfain's artistic achievements and contributions as exhibited at the Elvehjem Museum of Madison, Wisconsin.

After ordering and returning 'Architectural Design for Tropical Regions' by Cleveland Salmon (avoid Salmon's book, unless you don't already know that "the sun can be very bright when the sky is clear and the sunlight is intense"!), this book came to my rescue.
Packed with detailed information and design strategies, along with good illustrations, this book is well suited to architects or well-educated laymen (it is NOT written at a grade school level). I was at first hesitant to order this book, as little information was provided by Amazon. After reading it cover to cover more than once, I'm happy to recommend CLIMATE RESPONSIVE DESIGN as one of my two best books for hot humid building design.
(The other favorite is COURTYARDS: Aesthetic, Social & Thermal Delight. Not just a "pretty picture book," Courtyards contains lots of highly useful information (charts, graphs, formulas) as well as wonderful color & B&W photos, plus line drawings.)
Climate Responsive Design has provided a wealth of solid, useful, pertinent information while working on projects for the Yucatan, where the climate ranges from hot humid in the summer/rainy months, to warm humid in winter/'dry' months, to WHEW in April & May (hot hot hot & maybe humid or not).
