Lots of excellent industrial history
While the title of the book precludes a history of the Hoover dam. I found it to contain much more. The book does give a very good acounting of the building of the Hoover Dam.It also covers the beginnigs of some of the largest corporations in the world.

A Great Help For Any Werewolf:Wild West Storyteller
The Storyteller screen conveniently puts most of the frequently referenced charts and tables at the ST's fingertips, while providing plenty of room to hide dice rolls and ST notes. Frontier Secrets gives additional gifts, ideas about antagonists (information about Wild West Fomori), and plenty of other surprises for both players and storytellers. All in all, a great "supplement" for anyone running (or even playing) in a Werewolf Wild West game... even more so for the book than for the screen.

It was a switch from the usual fantasy...
Seelie and Unseelie elves trying to eke out an existance in Banal world, battling invisible chimaeric toys in the streets of Frisco, clinging tenaciously the nobility of the Middle Ages. I found this book quite refreshing from the run-of-the-mill fantasy books one can find. Unlike many of the novels about the faerie people, this one actually takes place on present-day Earth, and the faeries have to juggle two lives (human and faerie) besides trying to keep from losing their memories to the cold, unbelieving Banal world. All in all, a refreshing take on the faerie folk, and all in all, a great read.

Silicon Processing for the Vlsi Era: Process Technology

A good summary of modern Silicon processing technique
A thorough, if somewhat dry (makes the wall street journal look like a Sweet Valley High novel) treatment of modern semiconductor fabrication processes. This text is intended as a detailed overview of the processes involved in semiconductor design, particularly MOS technologies. In this regard it works well, through it shouldn't be considered a reference manual for the wafer fabrication engineer. A good summary for people who, like myself, work in the semiconductor industry, but do not deal with the details of fabrication processes on a daily basis.

The Timber Wolf in Wisconsin: The Death and Life of a Majestic Predator
Published in Paperback by Univ of Wisconsin Pr (1994)
Author: Richard P. Thiel
Amazon base price: $17.95
Average review score:

Great Historical Addition To Any Outdoorsman's Collection
I purchased Mr. Thiel's book some time ago (December 1994), but have very fond memories of the frequent times that I have read its pages. The content of the book weaves masterfully through historical context coupled with an easy to read style of story-telling narrative. Mr. Thiel's research on the timber wolf in America's Dairyland is impeccable. The manuscript guides the reader from the wolves beginnings in the State and subsequent extinction, to the modern day re-introduction of "canis lupus" to the Northwoods. Having lived in Wisconsin for a portion of my lifetime (and anxious to return!), this was a must read. However, it is not only a book for Wisconsinites, but a well spun chronicle for all ages, and folks from every State in the Union who take an interest in the majestic wolf!

BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE!!!
This is the second book in this series. I really liked it better than the first one. In this one Nathan Blaylock and his friend, Jim Riley are trying to find Nathan's son. Nathan has left him behind in the first book. They are still in the north land. Some of this is a little unbelieveable. This is supposed to envolve around the President of the US, Marta Kelly and Natan. Marta is looking to buy weapons to help her country of Panama. How do they finally meet? Nathan is about 30 miles from Dawson and he drives his dog sled within sight of Marta. Right in the middle of nowhere. Really now!!!!!!!! Nathan does pick up a couple of new friends in this one. Many Hat and Sweetness. You will be surprised who they are. He sill has his old friend Jim, whom I like and Doc Hennison, he is nearly hung and I which they would. I get a belly full of Doc pretty quick. Does Nathan find his son? Do the weapons get bought? Do Marta and Nathan make a couple? Have to read to find out but makes a pretty good story. Ending was a little sad. If you plan to read this one please read The Winter Wolf first.

Wolf-Hunting in France in the Reign of Louis XV: The Beast of the Gevaudan
Published in Hardcover by Edwin Mellen Press (1992)
Author: Richard H. Thompson
Amazon base price: $119.95
Average review score:

IN THE END WORTH THE PRICE.
I stumbled across this book looking for anything I could find on the Beast of the Gevaudan after seeing the movie The Brotherhood of the Wolf. I was very interested to find out that this movie was based loosely on a real French legend.
Though the author tends to stray from the point sometimes this book has some INCREDIBLE facts about this true story. This alone for me made the book worth the price. The author goes through and accounts for all of the reported attacks that are documented. The accounts are very detailed and truly scary. Also he does a great job of telling how the Beast was finally killed.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in finding out about the The Beast of the Gevaudan.

This book wasn't good as I expected...
I thought Axis Mundi would be a valuable aquisition to my werewolf stories, but wasn't. The mage storytellers will not understand why, whitewolf told that book would be useful for Mage campaigns. I wasted my money... Don't do the same mistake

A good book, but not good enough.
This is a pretty good book. If you are looking for information on some of the spirits who support the totems of the werewolf tribes, then this book is for you. You won't be disappointed.

However, I was disappointed with this book. The main reason for this is that I thought this book wasn't far reacing enough. According to the Werewolf universe, the Umbra is populated with thousands, if not millions, of different kinds of spirits, each with their own personality archetypes, wants, desires, interests, etc. But this book focuses mainly on the small number who serve the major tribe totems. This small slice of the spirit world is hardly fulfilling.

Another problem is that the book makes no attempt to describe how the spirits interact with each other, how any of the hierarchies of the totems work, or how any other spirits really behave or act out in the day-to-day life of the Umbra. Spirits are described as if their only purpose is to interact with the werewolves and not as if they are each self-sufficient entities.

So this book is good for what it is, but like many other White-Wolf supplements it fails to be all it could be. A much better book would have given more over-arching spirit information on a macro level so us creative-types could use the information they provided to populate our games with interesting individual spirits on a micro level.

A sourcebook for White Wolf's "Storyteller System"
This is a must-have for any Storyteller that deals with the Umbra and spirits, for Mage or Werewolf. It is a very information-rich sourcebook, full of guidelines and expanded rules on spirits, and packed with information on the spirits themselves. There is a spiritual history of the Garou that is very informative
