Artistically stunning! Biologically Accurate!
I find that this book is excellent for providing accurate background information on the animals and plants as well as portraying each species with characteristic body language. This is by far my favorite photography book as a piece of art as well as a biological reference tool.

Amazing, beautiful photos.
Amazing, beautiful photos of some of North Americas rarest species. A "must have" coffee-table book!

Concise Information
It is unfortunate that this book is out of print. It has very concise information on Anglo Saxon Paganism, and avid descriptions of that culture.

The next best thing to visiting the tapestry in Bayeux
If you are at all familiar with the Bayeux Tapestry, which is a staggering masterpiece, then this may sound incredible, but this book does it full justice. I can not get over my amazement and my feeling of being incredibly lucky to have discovered a book that reproduces the entire work-all 70 meters-in plates large enough to show fine details of the embroidery stitching (invaluable for the historical needleworker!), in what I believe (or at least devoutly hope) is faithful color. You don't miss anything at the edge of each page because an inch or so of the edge of each plate is reproduced on the next. The author wisely saved the historical and cultural explanations for another section of the book, allowing each plate to fill a full page. The historical explanations are printed in the last third of the book (the first two thirds being given entirely to the color plates) under a small black-and-white reproduction of the tapestry which is marked with plate numbers so that you can easily refer back to the large color reproduction. The author's commentary is very readable, and he sometimes demonstrates dry, British wit. The book also includes a stylistic analysis of the tapestry, and, with the aid of photographs, dicusses artifacts similar to those depicted.

Former PK staffer offer high praise for Beyond Promises
This is an excellent book that shares the Biblical problems with the PK movement, which should lead readers to ask questions about the inner workings of PK. Where there's smoke, there is fire.

A well-researched, thorough discussion of a complex issue
Jaffe, Wolfe & Wilson provide readers with the necessary information to understand the dynamics of domestic violence & its impact on child witnesses. They provide multi-level assessment and intervention strategies for professionals to address this complex issue & give hope that we can help to end the intergenerational cycle of violence. All of their work is well-researched and clearly written. An excellent, ground-breaking work.

Lasombra Machinations ....
I've been following the Dark Ages series since DA:Nosferatu and this latest installment is wonderful. It continues the saga of the War of Princes set in the tumultuous times following the sacking of Constantinople and the fall of Michael the Patriarch. In the aftermath, various factions of the Lasombra clan are maneuvering for ascendency in lieu of the vacuum left by the Toreador Methuselah's destruction and the disappearance of the Dracon. The Nosferatu elder, Malachite is reluctant to step forward and shoulder leadership of New Rome, so it is left to Scions of Matrid, Venice, and Genoa to execute their own moves from within the shadows. Intrigue is a classic tool of the clan better known as The Keepers. We are introduced to some new characters from other clans, who no doubt will factor prominently in future installments of this clan series set in the Middle Ages. David Niall Wilson is an excellent writer of this genre of fiction and does not disappoint in this latest endeavour. I highly recommend this book, as well as the Grails Covenant Trilogy - also written by David Niall Wilson. To read about human history seen from the perspective of vampires is very intoxicating and White Wolf has a coterie of authors that will dazzle you with their ability to enfold each tale with exquisite mastery and adherence to WoD canon. Sociobiology: the full swath
Typical of the Praeger series in Human Evolution & Intelligence but unlike most books on evolutionary psychology, this fine tome covers a lot of ground. It originated from papers read at a meeting of the European Sociobiology Society in Darwin's own Christ's College, Cambridge.

The organising theme is Darwinism across the full span of scholarly interests. Chapters span themes of humanities, social sciences, clinical application, the genetics of neurotransmitters and even theosophical considerations of the extended phenotype in human affairs.

Like most books edited from congress papers, this has its rough edges and uneven spots. Still, all in all it is a fine smorgasbord of topics with greater breadth amd sometimes greater depth than most other books concerning Darwinian approaches to contemporary studies ranging from humanities and social science on through medicine and philosophy.

It clearly surpasses books of more limited range such as Darwinian Psychiatry (Triosi & Maguire), Evolutionary Psychiatry (Stevens & Price) or Darwinian Medicine (Williams & Nesse). In fact, this book is to be recommended to an exceptionally broad range of scholars in disciplines from literature to pharmacology, not to mention alert lay readers.

Did the Devil Make Darwin Do It?: Modern Perspectives on the Creation Evolution Controversy

Devastating Critique of Creationism
End of story! Definitive arguments against Creationism by scientists, Christian theologians, and lawmakers. If every living Creationist read this book with an open mind, that would be the end of Creationism. Unfortunately, because of their psychological need for absolute answers, these people are constitutionally unable to read anything objectively that contradicts their so-called "literal" interpretation of the Bible, so the rational among us will be stuck with them until they all die out, which would be Darwinian evolution at its merciful best

The wonderful world of Jeremy James
I think that this book is an excellent story describing many of Jeremy James' adventures from his point of view. this way of writing allows many funny comments on Jeremy's outlook on life. Reading this book will be a wonderful experience for you and your children. I nag my mom over and over again to read me more of these hilarous stories. My mom obliges with joy because she likes the stories almost as much as I do. Even my friends enjoy the comical antics of Jeremy James. This book is a must have for any fun loving family.

I'm glad to see that people still find my book useful.
Back in 1971, I published my bibliography of Edmund Wilson. Occasionally I still come across references to it, as I did today while surfing the 'net. These electronic searches were hardly even science fiction when I was doing the research for the book. Times have changed. I wish I had had today's search engines back when I put two or three years of my life into that book. Nonetheless, the geometrically expanding range of information still makes a bibliographer's job challenging. Attempting to find and verify everything which Wilson had written, and which had been written about him, during his many prolific years was a daunting task. At one point I wanted to quit, but my M.A. thesis advisor at Vanderbilt, Thomas Daniel Young, urged me on. I met Edmund Wilson at his home on Cape Cod shortly after I published the book. I came with a friend who had a history degree from the University of Virginia. Both of us left his house very much impressed with how Edmund Wilson seemed to know something about everything; in person he had the same extent of eclecticism which characterized his writing. Dan Young, who was also series editor for FUGITIVE BIBLIOGRAPHIES of which my book formed a part, passed on to his reward in 1997. In the last Christmas card he sent to me before his death, he indicated that he had written or edited 32 books. I'm glad that some people have found my book useful and that you continue to list it at amazon.com. I am interested in hearing from anyone who wants to do research on Edmund Wilson. Richard David Ramsey, Ph.D.
