A fascinating read and a sweeping historical analysis
America's Religions: From Their Origins To The Twenty-First Century by Peter W. Williams (Distinguished Professor of Comparative Religions and American Studies, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio) is a massive, comprehensive, meticulous study of the religious movements that have shaped the United States and ranges from Native American religions and early European colonization era communities of faith to the religious modernism and pluralism of the twentieth century. Divided into fifty-five chapters, the scholarly narrative path traces a long road across centuries of human belief. America's Religions is a fascinating read and a sweeping historical analysis which is very highly recommended for History Of Religion supplemental reading lists and reference collections.

Aquinas on Creation: Writings on the "Sentences" of Peter Lombard: Book 2, Distinction 1, Question 1 (Mediaeval Sources in Translation, No 35)
Published in Paperback by Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (1998)
Authors: Thomas Aquinas, Steven E. Baldner, and William E. Carroll
Amazon base price: $22.95

Brilliant.
Aquinas On Creation is a fascinating introduction to St. Thomas's philosophy of the begining of time (creation). Though I disagree with Aquinas on almost every possible point, his arguments are valid and good. Additionally, professors William Carroll and Steven Baldner translate Aquinas in such a way as to make him intelligable to both philosopher and layperson alike.

of some interest
In many ways, this is a disappointing book. Predictable in its attempt to create a 'scathing' rebuttal to the hideous 'Bell Curve', this book offers little to anyone versed in the incredible variety of contemporary feminist discourse. For those prepared for some *real* thinking, try more transgressive/radical voices, such as Patricia Williams, bell hooks, Mary Daly, and many others; also, see various radical works related to Lacan. The Assault on Equality is simply too simple, a statement of the obvious racism and stupidity of Charles Murray et al., and it cannot be said to contribute orginial thinking on the issue of race. Feminists in particular will find this book a bit simple-minded. Well intentioned, but dull, even as the authors are trying to sound angry.

10 Stars if I Could!
Buy this book now! Even if you never make any of the recipes, the pictures and layout are worth the price.

If you're a novice baker, this isn't the book for you. Some of the recipes are a bit involved. You must, must make the Kranz Cake, even if it does demand an overnight rest of the dough...

Bear in mind this is a British book, so you'll need a set of scales as well as a Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion to make anything from the book (unless this edition is already converted - I got my copy in the UK).

a must-have for the clerical civil service exam!!
I purchased this book 3 weeks prior to taking the civil service clerical exam. I read the book and did all the practice exams. When I went to take the test, I knew what to expect and had confidence in my ability to do well. 50% of all people who take the test fail. Although the test is difficult, you owe it to yourself to be fully prepared before going in. This book is a excellent way to do that. The actual civil service clerical exam is divided into two sections: Clerical Abilities and Verbal Abilities. I thought that the Verbal Abilities test was harder than the examples in the book, but the Clerical Abilities test would be close to impossible without the information in this book. I can't imagine why anyone would go to all the trouble of taking this exam without preparing for it in advance. My advice: Buy the book and STUDY it before you go!!

The Soul Of Baseball...
there was never a dull moment reading this. inspired by countless tape recordings brashler made with cool papa bell and satchel paige, this books puts you into the lives of back baseball players in the 1930's as they travel through the midwest, often encountering prejudice, con-men, loneliness and self-doubt but sticking to their guns and rising about the drama. the language brashler uses to tell the tale makes it authentic and warm. a perfect companion to the movie...

EXCELLENT
The story was enthralling, and I could not put the book down until I had read the last word. I loved the characters, and all the past lives Doug experienced, and how everyones lives revolved aroung each other. The only disappointing aspect of the book was that it ended. I want to know more about their lives and what happens to every-one. I hope Bill Rowe and Peter Cooper contiue to write, and keep entertaining us all!!

eye-opening
I appreciated this book for its Christian perspective on a few of my favorite Shakespeare plays. The author explored not only the plots, but also the characters' relationships to Christ. The author made insightful parallels and comparisons between the characters and Christ and His church. I also appreciated the critiques of some of the film versions of the plays. I heartily recommend this eye-opening book!

Your children will love this fun little story
This book tells of a little duck who ventures out before springhas fully arrived and finds that it's a cold, cold world. Eventually, spring breaks, and the little duck goes on her merry way. This storyhas many accompanying motions that your children can act out as you read the story. Also, the words are very large and in bold print, making it easy for young children to read it. A great addition to your child's library!

The Portable Bard
This is an edition of the complete works of Shakespeare that I keep next to my bed. No heavier than a large fashion magazine and absolutely readable, it is my favorite. The glossary is useful, the commentary is brief, and the cover folds back for comfortable beach reading. This edition brings Shakespeare into focus as an intimate whose work and life and suffering are not in any way distant from ours. Given the genius of the work, this particular edition encourages an easier relationship because the book itself is so easy to use.(When no one's around, pull it out and read a speech or two aloud) An excellent any-occasion gift that will be used and appreciated, especially by students, because it is so very convenient!
