Lots of advice on screenwriting....
Ok, obviously this book is years out of date, but it's still a great read if you want to be a professional screenwriter. Robert Towne, William Goldman, Paul Schrader. All the big screenwriters from the seventies are here and Brady seems to have got to them before they got sick of telling the same anecdotes over and over. Worth the trouble to track down.

Not Bad
This book was a typical biography, good for reports and whatnot, it has some of Turner's Paintings, and it has a lot of information.

Enjoyed this book
This book is an easy read. There are really two stories told: Marland's biography, and also, an history of early economic development in the northern part of the young state of Oklahoma. In a few chapters you will read about geology, Native American tribes, seizure of Indian lands in the "Cherokee Strip", early oilmen, New York bankers, the roaring 1920's and the Great Depression. They all influenced Marland's career as an oilman. The author's (often acerbic) opinions about persons and events are freely given throughout his book.

Somewhat Dull and Inconclusive
This book paints a decent protrait of Galloway in the years before, during and after the American Revolution. However, Freling does not offer his own opinion of Galloway's historical significance. Overall, a decent book, but a bit tedious at times.

Useful service for teachers and trainers.
For teachers or trainers who use film to bring variety and excitement to the classoom, Prof. Champoux has written two useful film guides, one with a focus on management and the other on organizational behavior. Both have similar tables of contents and it is unlikely that students who have purchased one book would feel their money was well spent in the purchase of the second volume. Additionally, students may feel cheated by the formatting decisions made by the author and the publisher. Each book could easily be reduced in page numbers by at least half with no loss of content.

With these reservations considered, Champoux does provide a useful service for the reader. A few examples will serve to demonstrate the value of his work.

In Chapter 3 of the Organizational Behavior text Champoux reviews the 1970 Jack Nicholson film, "Five Easy Pieces." The category for this film is Quality Management and the scene Champoux uses to illustrate a breakdown in customer service is the now famous roadside restaurant confrontation where Nicholson attempts to customize his order with a waitress who advises him that he can't make any substitutions for any items on the menu. At first Nicholson attempts to use reason with the waitress in order to get the food he wants to eat, but when reason fails, his anger and savage wit combine in one of the most memorable putdowns ever filmed.

Champoux makes it convenient for the viewer to find the scene with fairly accurate tape start and stop times listed prominently before his accurate description of what the viewer will see. He then asks three open ended questions which seem obvious at first, but in reality are difficult to answer. Teachers will find it easy to add their own questions such as: Is the customer always right? Our conditioned response is yes, but the scene Champoux gives us requires us to think more deeply about this question. More than this, Nicholson is a difficult customer. How does a person in the service industry work effectively with such people? Students will be eager to discuss such questions and instructors will discover many teachable moments stimulated by the interest generated by the film clip.

As mentioned, this guide has been formatted into a workbook and always after the questions for discussion is a page for analysis of concepts or examples and then a place to write personal reactions to the film clip. All the content mentioned could easily have been formatted on one page and students can use their own notebooks or learning logs, which they are likely to do anyway, to record their observations.

With these reservations noted, I am still able to recommend this book. Prof. Champoux shares with us his years of experience watching popular films. The eighty-two films cited in the text are divided into twenty-five chapters that correspond to topics that students will find in the typical organizational behavior text like perception, motivation, and leadership. As in the Five Easy Pieces example mentioned, his selections are appropriate, entertaining, and thought provoking. Students and teachers will discover in Champoux's book many good reasons to bring a thoughtful attention to their next film viewing.

more a diary than an narrative story
Worth reading if you are eager to learn of accounts from various sorts of the Great Army's soldiers: this book provides interesting inputs and backgrounds on the bavarian army that sided Napoleon during many years against Austria. However, the reading may be difficult for the vast public to whom I recommend to start reading the memoirs of soldiers Bourgogne, Coignet, Tirion, etc. who demonstrated great narrative skills compared to this book which is more a diary.

A Concise Practical Manual
It isn't a good reference for internal medicine but it's concise practical handbook for quick cross-reference and revision.

Compared to other textbook of similar size, such as Davidson's, it lacks concise review of important anatomy and physiology, detailed explanation of pathophysiology, colourful illustrations, and useful tables. These drawbacks make it too difficult for medical students starting clinical practice to read and understand, and too brief for doctors to look up detailed description and explanation.

However, it contains many useful diagnostic criteria and practical management guidelines, which are useful for final-year students and even junior doctors. Moreover, its concise descriptions of disease makes it appropiate for examinations.

For Thurtells everywhere!
If you are a member of the Thurtell family (those Vikings who came from Denmark in the 9th Century to take over England), you will love this book about our Uncle John. He was such a nice guy that many didn't believe he had committed the murder. So, as he was about to be dropped to his death, he admitted it. His was the first jury trial to be covered by the press and,due to the yellow journalism of the day, was almost the end of same!--Terry Miller, media@naples.net

Roller Coaster Ride
The book John Lucas: Winning A Day At A Time by Joseph Moriarity is like a roller coaster ride though the ups and downs of the life of John Lucas. He takes you though each stage of John's life; from his early years before high school and how he won the Junior World Cup and his basketball experiences. Then he went to high school in N.C. and his first experiences with drugs. He set many college records at the University of Maryland and was the star of the team and NCAA. When he made it to the NBA people thought he could have been as good as Michael Jordan, but he got addicted to hard drugs like cocaine. The author skips through how John got kicked from team to team and went from rehab to rehab. His drug addiction tore apart his family and almost ruined his career before he finally got on track with his life.
This book is a very slow read and it trudges from chapter to chapter. It has some good times where it's an enjoyable spot; but I would not recommend buying or reading this book unless you feel interested in his life experiences and drug problems. It's not worth the time to stumble though the pages. I skipped pages at a time and still found myself in the same place. The novel is just a slow timeline of the life of John Lucas.
