A Woman Chosen by God!
Ellen White was an amazing woman who wrote more books than any other female writer ever (and I think that the only man that surpassed her was Benjamin Franklin). You wouldn't know it to read one of her books but she only had a third-grade education! God truly inspired her writings and her life was an awesome testimony to God's ability to use anyone in any station in life. Her biography is very interesting and fantastic!

Mind, Character and Personality
This is an execellent book. The author is truly inspired by God. She addresses practically every conflict or controversy that may arise in life. Anywhere from concerns of the roles of a husband and wife in a marriage to how a single person can survive as a Christian or, even how diet effects an individual's mind and spirit. I had searched high and low for this publication. After reading a friend's copy I had to purchase my own personal copy. I think every Christian should have this book as part of their home library.

A thorough tool for center/self examination...
I was fortunate enough to receive classroom training in using this manual. (As well as the others in the series.) But over the years I've found it to be a great tool in monitoring overall classroom quality. It is broken down into very specific sections and the scoring system is easy to follow, with specific defintions/descriptions for item. It encompasses a "wholistic" approach to evaluation. It not only takes into account room arrangement, health & safety, and curriculum, but staff and child interractions, peer interractions, and day to day activities (transition time, meals) as well. It is a wonderful tool to use when you want to evaluate the quality of your school age program. And the great thing is, it can be used over and over again as a way of seeing how much improvement has been made.
This is the criteria that the Mentor-Teacher program in my area uses when they award accredidation to a person who wants to be a mentor teacher. They go step by step, page by page, when evaluating a potential candidate (or for re-accredidation). So if you are thinking of pursuing a mentoring position, or just want to improve the overall quality of your classroom, this is the book for you.

Tremendous insights into Biblical history.
This book is the first of a set of five books designed to be read as a companion reader to the Bible. Each chapter lists the corresponding Biblical passages. The remaining four books in the series are Prophets and Kings; Desire of Ages; Acts of the Apostles; The Great Controversy. The author is very readable and shows great insight and sensitivity to the whole plan of God in rescuing mankind from sin and restoring them to His original plan for the human race. This book begins with the entrance of sin inn heaven prior to the creation of the earth and covers the dealings of God with His earthly creation down throu the ages, and includes the fall of man, the flood of Noah, the exodus of Moses, the batles of king David, and end with Davids last years, including his fall into sin with Bathsheba and his restoration to favor with God

Learning about Christianity
This book goes over the Sermon on the Mount. It contains many quotable lines such as "Pride feels no need." (p. 7) the author integrates a lot of Bible verbiage and imagery, showing how they illustrate the principles of this sermon.

A thought-provoking and introspective anthology
The White Fire Of Time is a collection of original, free-verse poems by Ellen Hinsey (who teaches writing and literature at the Skidmore College program in Paris and the Ecole Polytechnique) about endurance, consciousness, the earth itself and emotional respite in the face of merciless eternity. A thought-provoking and introspective anthology. Under the thunderous silence, under the shadow/Of a Word, in terror or indifference, or in slow advancement,/Each body moving along the horizon of days,/Each in its own motion, each compelled by the temporal axis.

My favorite Dear America book
This was the first Dear America book I read in 1999, and it still is my favorite even today. The story is about Margaret Ann Brady, who lives in an orphanage in England. Both of her parents had died a few years back, and her older brother, William, is trying to make a living in America so Margaret can live there as well. Margaret is given the chance to become a companion to a Mrs. Carstairs who will take the maiden voyage on the Titanic. Margaret agrees, and when they finally get to the ship, she is impressed with its beauty. She enjoys the daily events, and meets a steward, Robert. They eventually become friends. But suddenly one night, Margaret feels that there was a sudden jolt. She gets to the top deck of the Titanic and everyone assumes that it is just maintainence. But she feels that it is not just a drill. The ship is sinking! She is one of the few lucky people to have gotten on a lifeboat; unfortunately, Robert was not. Margaret is heartbroken. She finally gets to America and meets her brother, but she feels something will always be different now. This was an amazing story with extreme detail and emotion. If you are new to the series, or if you don't have this one yet, I would suggest this as one of the best.

The opportunity of her life turns into a nightmare.
Thirteen-year-old Margaret, the fictional passenger that is the "writer" of the "diary" that makes up this book, shouldn't have even been on the Titanic. By a twist of fate that she interprets as good fortune, the orphan, who has been living at an orphanage since her mother died and her brother decided he couldn't care for her properly, gets a job with a wealthy American woman, Mrs. Carstairs. The job is fairly simple: Margaret just has to keep Mrs. Carstairs company during her return voyage to New York, and it comes with a ticket to America. Margaret takes the job eagerly: her brother now is living and working in America, able to support her, and has been saving up for a ticket for her for awhile. Now she can join him immediatley. But Mrs. Carstairs is returning to America on the Titanic. And we all know that voyage is doomed to end of tragedy. So Margaret unknowingly heads off into a disaster. We see through her eyes how the luxuries of first class would appear to a child who lived in poverty all of her life. And of course, the disaster plays a large role in the story as well. I highly reccomend this to fans of the Dear America series, historical fiction, and of course, the Titanic!

Voyage on the Great Titanic - Story of a British Girl
This book is a diary of a 13 year old British girl named Margaret Ann Brady. After her parents died when she was young, she was left in the orphanage by her brother, William. Then William went to America to earn money. With the support from Sister Catherine, a nun who was very closed to her, Margaret grew up to be a fine young woman. When she was thirteen, she met an American women named Mrs. Carstairs, who asked Margaret to be her companion her voyage to the America on a ship called the RMS Titanic. So they left together to experience the biggest moment in her life.

In the ship, she met many upper class people, especially Mrs. Carstairs friends. She was in first class and experienced a lot of things that upper class people do. She became friends with a ship steward named Robert. She had a lot of fun on the Titanic. But on the night of April 14, 1912, things start to going wrong. Titanic hit the big iceberg and ship had big gouge down her side. Titanic started to sink in the middle of the ocean. Titanic sent message to other ships for help, but they were too far away. Life boats were taken out and first class women and children boarded them. Margaret was in first class but she stayed to find Robert. After she met Robert, they said good bye to each other because Robert wanted to rescue Margaret. Then Margaret got on a life boat and she was rescued. Then next day, all the life boats were met by a ship called Carpathia and they were saved. More than 2,000 passengers, crew members, and others died from it, and only 700 people survived. When she arrived to New York, Margaret found her brother and, finally she was safe.

In this book, Margaret described her feelings about her life and on the Titanic. She was an extremely smart and so clever that she thought like an adult even though she is only thirteen. She noticed almost everything about what happened the Titanic. She wrote about everything that she saw and experienced on the Titanic. This journal has a lot of information about the Titanic and how it felt to survive such a disaster. The good thing about this book is that you can actually experience the huge Titanic known as "unsinkable" from the point of view of a young person. I recommend this book to students who are studying Titanic. It might be a little bit hard for some people because it has many words that British people use.

A lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path for Bible Help.
This is an excellent work, written approximately a century ago, revealing the love, justice, logic, exactness, and pain of our God. Through this book, God shows His work progressing from Eden, through the Old Testament, Jesus and the Apostles, throughout the middle ages, to today, through trials, wars, and oppression. She gives a clarification of the logic and perfection of God as He fulfills His prophecies in Daniel and Revelation at the exact time appointed.

This book also reveals Satan's devices, which are at work today, in main stream churches around the world. Baptist, Catholic, Jew, Hindu, Muslim, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopal, Seventh-day Adventist, Jehovah Witness, Mormon/Latter day Saints, Holiness, Christ of Christ, Pentecostal, Non-Denominational, and ALL other persons will be judged by the same rules. "By their fruits" Matthew 7:15-20.

In this book, the author clearly explains that good Works do not save us. Faith is revealed by good Works. Good Works are the result of Faith, and "the Holy Scriptures, ... are able to make thee wise unto salvation THROUGH FAITH which is in Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15 (See James 2:14-26).

The author shows how, by allowing scripture to explain scripture, the prophecy of Daniel 7:25, "think to change times and laws", has been fulfilled and how Revelation 14:9, "the mark" of the beast, is being fulfilled. She puts in plain words, how this should be an alarm to the whole world to return to the Bible and the Bible only as the only rule of faith, allowing scripture to interpret scripture, just as Jesus did while on this earth. She shows how men, by traditions and "political correctness", have watered down and changed God's Laws, and interpreted them in a way to make them more acceptable to the masses, preventing men, in the end and to their end, from changing their hearts.

The book ends with summary and eye-opening descriptions of the final conflict of this world and hope for the next.

The seriousness, clearness, intelligence, magnificence and simplicity of God's Word is revealed, throughout the book, as God tries to lead each believer to repent and "Go and sin no more" John 8:11. "For by grace are ye saved THROUGH FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8,9. "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." James 2:17

Jesus plus faith equals salvation. Ephesians 2:8,9

Faith only equals Faith plus Works. Faith without Works equals No faith. . James 2: 14-26

If you believe that you are saved by grace only or traditions, or that the blood of Jesus gives us salvation without accountability to God's Law, or that the requirement of obedience for salvation ended at the cross, or that salvation is a gift, even without repentance, please read your bible, and then read this book again. "But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?" "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Matthew 15:1-20

She helps us understand that we are not just to believe, but to obey. "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" 1 Peter 4:17

In other writings, by this author, she states that her books are NOT a replacement for the Bible or serious Bible study. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand why their Christian church believes what they believe, and how God's steadfast requirements do not contradict His unconditional love for us. "For God so loved THE WORLD, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Exceptional information written in beautiful, lyrical prose
This book is obviously a mainstay of the 7th day adventist religion. Though I personally do not subscribe to the doctrine at this time, Ms. White makes a compelling case for "... the infallible authority of the Holy Scriptures as a rule of faith and practice."

Modern day Roman Catholics would likely be surprised and alarmed in reading the book; she reveals in some detail the past corruptions of the Roman church and of the papacy and traditions in particular. While today the pope speaks to eliminate the death penalty, in the history of Rome, the popes used not only death, but terrible tortures to promote and protect his power. Her ultimate conclusion is that the Pope of Rome is the beast of Revelations (so Henry Kissinger can relax a bit). The mark of the beast is in setting aside the precepts laid down in scripture for the traditions invented by man (Sunday vs. Saturday worship, infant baptism, indulgences, worship of saints and Mary, ad infinitem).

I recommend this book to any fundamentalist, evangelical, or liberal Christian thinker whether Protestant or Catholic, because it raises our awareness how church leaders can loose sight of the path set down by Jesus and instead promote superstitions set out by men who would use them to achieve and retain worldly power.

Wow!
This is a great book. Its a page turner, with everything from audcious greed to stomach-turning S&M details. The author does a great job not bogging down in arcane financial minutiae, and keeps the story moving along. I read it in two sittings. For NW Ohio readers, the first 1/3 of the book has a lot of familiar settings and many recognizable names. I would recommend this book to anyone--it would also make a great move. Billy Bob Thornton should play Frankel.

Financial / sex-yarn / thiller / comedy (page turner!)
I read this book over a couple of days and I was thoroughly entertained. Martin Frankel was an ultimate sleazeball, basically a financial psychopath who was willing to rip off thousands of people while quoting St. Francis on "helping the poor."

It's a remarkable, horrifying story. Frankel's sexual perversions magnify to the point where his slutty entourage is actually plotting to have baby girls to groom for his pleasures. (Fortunately, that plot seems to have gone astray.)

Pollock tells a complex story that begins with the nerdy Frankel "trying" to trade stocks and bonds out of his parents' home. I say trying, because the one over-riding theme of the book is that while Frankel talks the talk, he can't actually pull the trigger on trades. In a rare actual trade early on, he accidentally makes $20,000 for a client, and his ego takes off. He compares himself to Warren Buffett, and while Frankel may have had a lofty IQ, his delusions and mental limitations keep him from ever really making money in the stock and bond markets.

Instead, he meticiously plots to take over small insurance companies and raids their funds -- deceiving a host of employees and regulators.

As the scam grows, so does his preverted and bizarre lifestyle.

As I told a friend, "You feel like you need a shower after every chapter."

And of course ... I loved it!

I highly recommend this book to those who like financial literature with a kinky twist.

Fascinating, Well written Account of A Real Pretender
The bizarre truth of this con-man makes a great read.
Hopefully ,there will be later editions that will lay out
the inevitable convictions and sentencing of Frankel and
those who helped him. It's shocking that his scams did not
come to the surface sooner. Frankel's story predates more
recent corporate scandals, and helps illustrate why federal
governmental oversight of the securitie/insurance industy
need more manpower and wider jurisdiction to aggressively
investigate these corporate felons who do more damage to
the national community than the fabled mafia or common
bank robbers---I'd highly recommend this book to true crime buffs who may need relief from grisly homicide books
